Dogman Encounters Radio

Adam Merriott is a filmmaker who lives in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The reason Adam is here tonight is that he’s working on a project called “Legacy of the Forest,” a cinematic horror story focused on the Dogman phenomenon. Adam’s main goal with the project is to tell the stories behind the Dogman encounters so many eyewitnesses have had over the years, using the language of cinema. Adam isn’t making the film only for people who already believe in the existence of Dogmen. He also wants people who don’t know a thing about Dogmen to be able to watch the film and walk away with something from the experience. To get the project off the ground, though, he’ll need help financing it. That’s why he’s launching a Kickstarter campaign for the project. Adam’s aspirations for “Legacy of the Forest” don’t end with a short film. He wants the short film to merely be the beginning of the project. After the film is released, he hopes to expand “Legacy of the Forest” into a cinematic universe consisting of a trilogy of feature films alongside an eight-episode television series. In the woods surrounding Irvine, California, there’s an area tonight’s guest, Sean Patterson, was drawn to when he was younger. He doesn’t know why, but he always enjoyed spending time there while roaming the woods. More than 10 years later, Sean made an amazing discovery about that spot. He says the area serves as a sanctuary for a group of Dogmen and that, after spending so much time there, they began interacting with him. Over the course of those interactions, Sean was able to take several pictures of them, which he shared with me. Late one night in 2012, tonight’s guest was riding home with her fiancé in Marietta, Ohio, after feeding, watering, and exercising her horse where she had been boarding him. Her fiancé was driving, and “Mandy” had her feet up on the dashboard on the passenger side of his truck. As they drove past Sacra Via Park, all of a sudden, her fiancé slammed on the brakes and stopped the truck in the road. When Mandy looked over at him, he was white-knuckled, with a death grip on the steering wheel. When she asked him what was wrong, he told her that he had seen something he initially thought was a deer—but it wasn’t a deer. As he described what he had seen, he was white as a sheet. Mandy never saw what her fiancé had seen that night, but the experience lit a fire in her. Using his description, she began doing exhaustive research in an attempt to figure out what it might have been. Eventually, she came to believe that what he had seen was most likely something called a Dogman. After reaching that conclusion, Mandy became almost obsessed with Dogmen. Her fascination with them eventually led her to seek out an encounter of her own. She began walking her dog, Boston, at night in the same park where her fiancé had seen the Dogman, hoping that, sooner or later, she would have a Dogman encounter of her own. As fate would have it, on a very hot night, around 2 AM, in August of 2013, while walking Boston in that park, Mandy finally got her wish. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t affect her the way she thought it would. She thought she was ready to have a Dogman encounter, but she wasn’t. Since that night, she’s suffered from ongoing Dogman-related nightmares and night terrors. She’s also been diagnosed with PTSD and says she is still traumatized by the experience. Tonight’s guest, Ken, was born and raised in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. Located along the northern edge of the Endless Mountains, Susquehanna County is home to countless forest-covered, rolling hills and the kind of terrain that would make it easy for a large cryptid to remain hidden. Late one night, in November of 2016, Ken was driving his ex-girlfriend around while she delivered newspapers on a route the two of them had been warned about. The warnings came from friends of his ex-girlfriend who had previously delivered papers on that route. They told Ken and his ex to be careful because they had seen what they described as Yetis while making deliveries. Naturally, Ken and his girlfriend didn’t know what to make of those warnings. They had no reason to believe anything like that could be in the area. Their views on the existence of large, unknown cryptids changed abruptly that night, however. What they encountered didn’t resemble a Yeti. According to Ken, it looked like a huge Werewolf. Nine years ago, tonight’s guest, Dave, contacted me to tell me about a Dogman encounter he’d had not long before reaching out to me. The encounter had traumatized him, and he contacted me hoping I could help him come to terms with what he’d experienced. Dave was no stranger to the woods. He’d spent untold hours in the outdoors over the years, doing all sorts of things. In fact, many years before his Dogman encounter, he’d had several encounters with Sasquatch. Tonight’s guest wishes to remain anonymous, so I’m going to call her “Nicki” on tonight’s show. Nicki lives near the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. That’s by design, not by chance. You see, she’s always loved spending time in the outdoors. In fact, for the longest time, one of her favorite things to do was take her massive Husky/Lab mix, Steel, to a nearby reservoir, close to a place called “Lycan Loop,” where the two of them would go on nice, long hikes together. Nicki and Steel loved hiking there so much that she had taken him to the reservoir well over 100 times. Then, one day, in spring of 2019, everything changed. That was the day Nicki and Steel had an encounter with a Dogman at the reservoir. Unfortunately, the experience traumatized Nicki so much that she stayed away from the reservoir for four years. Tonight’s guest, Caleb White, has been interested in Werewolves for as long as he can remember. Before he saw the movie Silver Bullet, for the first time, when he was a kid, he was already fascinated in Werewolves. When he saw that movie, however, the hook was officially set. Back then, Werewolves were figments of our imagination. When Caleb and his best friend, Ethan, would play in the woods on his Pawpaw’s property, it wasn’t like they had to worry about having an encounter with a real-life Werewolf. At least, that’s what The boys believed until they had their first encounter with what looked like a white Werewolf, in a forest on Calib’s Pawpaw’s property. Tonight’s guest, Brett Ford, had two encounters with what some people would call Bearwolves, while he and his family were visiting Newfoundland, last summer. The encounters happened in fairly quick succession, on the same night, which makes Brett think they were connected somehow. The two Bearwolves/Dogmen he saw were definitely different creatures, as they looked different from one another. The first one he saw, near Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, had more of an athletic build. In the summer of 2000, on a beautiful, sunny day, tonight’s guest, Randy, was driving home down a country road when he saw something that fits the description of being a Werewolf much more so than that of a Dogman. Werewolves don’t exist, though. Or do they? Tonight’s guest, Rick, had his Dogman encounter one night, in 1990, around dusk. He was sitting in church with his wife, at the time, when he realized he had heard the sermon the pastor was just starting to give. When he realized he had already heard it, he told his wife that he was going to take a ride in his 85 Chevy pickup truck to kill some time. Not long after he had left the church, he turned down a secluded road that hadn’t been used in a very long time. It was around 8 PM, so it was dusky/dark outside. To help him see better, he turned the overhead lights on, on his truck’s rollbar. Seconds after he did that, he saw a huge creature, that wasn’t supposed to exist, start climbing down the trunk of a tree that was about 50 yards from the side of the road. As the monstrosity was climbing down the trunk, Rick could hear its claws tearing the bark. At that point, Rick was rapidly approaching the part of the road that was closest to where the creature was. Curiosity got the best of him, so he stopped his truck and got out. Rick regrets getting out of his truck and he, especially, regrets what happened next. Tonight’s guest, Kevin Bennage, had his Dogman encounter in the shadow of the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming, about 2 miles from home. His encounter left him shaken to the core. He was so rattled by the experience, he didn’t sleep a wink that night, when he got home. For some time, after he had that experience, he suffered from frequent night terrors.
