  1. Carlie McBurnie: Rediscovering the Competitor Within Us from Fit Beyond 40, opens in a new tab

    Sep 13, 202641 min

Fitness has always been part of Carlie McBurnie’s life. A competitive gymnast growing up, she remained active through adulthood, although for many years training was simply something she just did, rather than having something meaningful to work towards. In her 40s, that started to change. Training became more purposeful, the competitive side began to re-emerge and approaching 45, Carlie decided she wanted to see what she was still capable of. That eventually led her to competing in HYROX events and with that, learning to run - something she had always said she hated. Carlie shares how her recent journey took her to a new level of fitness, before a significant stress fracture forced her to step away from training and confront the challenge of starting again. We talk about the mindset and uncertainty that comes with injury, limiting beliefs around age and performance, the importance of community and consistency and why fitness means much more to Carlie now than ever before. A story about rediscovering your competitive side, navigating setbacks and continuing to explore what you’re capable of beyond 40.

  2. Noel Micallef: Getting Better with Age from Fit Beyond 40, opens in a new tab

    Aug 30, 202639 min

Noel Micallef didn’t become a marathon runner overnight. After periods of running, injury and years of stopping and starting, Noel reached a point in his 40's where fitness became something more permanent. Running shifted from something he did for an event to something that became part of who he is. Thirteen marathons later, Noel has taken an hour off his first marathon time, from 4:44 to a recent personal best of 3:45. In this episode, we talk about that journey: the lessons from a brutal first marathon, finding consistency, the impact of coaching, overcoming limiting beliefs and why, at 51, Noel feels he’s still getting better. It’s more than a conversation about running - it's about what can happen when you keep showing up and remain curious about what you’re capable of beyond 40.

  3. Intro from Fit Beyond 40, opens in a new tab

    Aug 27, 20267 min

In this introductory episode, host Troy Tindill shares the idea behind Fit Beyond 40 and talks about how his own relationship with fitness has evolved in his 40's. Beginning with his curiosity about the everyday people who inspire him, Troy sets the scene for Series 1 of the podcast, for a collection of honest conversations about movement, motivation, ageing and what it means to stay fit with intention and enjoyment. This is the starting point for Fit Beyond 40 —real people, different journeys and stories that will hopefully inspire you to keep moving and discover what you’re capable of in your own fitness journey.
