To begin this new moon manifestation ritual, you'll make gentle movements in a seated posture and practice Samavritti pranayama aka box breathing to help ready the mind and body for meditation. The new moon starts when the first sliver of light appears in the sky after the dark moon. The new moon represents beginnings. So when you are manifesting under a new moon, think of new things you want to bring into your life, such as projects, relationships, jobs, or making positive life changes. Take time to think about your intentions and what you want to manifest a few days before the new moon begins.

  2. 5-Minute Bedtime Wind-Down Exercise | Bhramarī Prāṇāyāma | Humming Bee Breath from Sleep and Deep Rest Yoga Nidra and Meditations for Night Owls, opens in a new tab

    Sep 7, 20264 min

This 5-Minute Bhramarī Prāṇāyāma, also known as Humming Bee Breath, is one of my favorite execises to do really any time of day when I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed or stressed but it’s also a great one I do to help settle myself before sleep. I find the humming helps to override any intrusive or busy chattering thoughts that are distracting me from sleep. Especially if I’ve been busy late when I don’t have time for a longer bedtime routine to wind down and I need to get to turn off and sleep quickly. Bhramarī Prāṇāyāma has been found to have: parasympathetic predominance which means it helps to shift your body into a rest-and-digest state. it helps to reduce stress, improve cognition, reduce blood pressure and heart-rate variability reduce irritability in tinnitus. Something about the vibration created from the humming combined with the slow, deep breaths make this a unique practice. References: Kuppusamy M, Kamaldeen D, Pitani R, Amaldas J, Shanmugam P. 3. Talk: Have We Forgotten The True History Of The Chakras? from Sleep and Deep Rest Yoga Nidra and Meditations for Night Owls, opens in a new tab

    Aug 27, 202658 min

Most of us learned that the chakras are an ancient yogic system, but what if that story isn’t quite true? In this talk, I take you down the rabbit hole that completely changed how I understand chakras. We'll deep dive into the forgotten history of the modern Western chakra system from early Tantric philosophy to Theosophy, Carl Jung, and the New Age movement. You’ll learn how a mix of Western psychology, color theory, and mysticism transformed a centuries-old meditation map into today’s popular seven-chakra rainbow model. Together, we’ll explore: How Western thinkers and energy-healing culture shaped the modern chakra system's evolution. What Sanskrit scholars reveal about the original Tantric practices. How source amnesia nearly rewrote history. This talk is for yoga teachers, philosophy students, and really anyone who's ever felt like the chakra system didn't quite add up. Get ready because this conversation will change how you see yoga history forever. P.S. This episode was repurposed from my podcast, All Mats Taken for yoga teachers.

  5. Yoga Nidra Is Not What You Think | Interview with Indu Arora on the Ancient State of Conscious Sleep from Sleep and Deep Rest Yoga Nidra and Meditations for Night Owls, opens in a new tab

    Aug 24, 202645 min

Most people know Yoga Nidra as a relaxation tool that helps you fall asleep. But according to renowned yoga therapist and author Indu Arora, we've been missing the most important word in the practice... yoga . In this deeply illuminating conversation, Indu unpacks the true philosophy of Yoga Nidra, tracing it from ancient Vedic and Tantric texts all the way to the modern technique we practice today and we discuss why the difference matters more than you think. In this episode you'll learn: Why Yoga Nidra is a state of consciousness, not just a relaxation technique. And what the ancient texts actually say about it The real reason we fall asleep during Yoga Nidra (and what to do about it) How to prepare your body and nervous system before practice to stay present and aware Why reading a script is not the same as true transmission and how your personal practice changes everything The many pathways to Yoga Nidra beyond the Pancha Koshas, including through the three bodies, the five pranas, and more What "frequency following response" means and why the state you are in shapes the experience of every student in the room Why Indu believes we are "settling for fractions" of what Yoga Nidra can truly offer Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or a yoga teacher looking to deepen your transmission, this episode will completely shift the way you approach Yoga Nidra. *Note: This episode is repurposed from The All Mats Taken Yoga Teachers Podcast About Indu Arora: Indu Arora is a Yoga and Ayurveda teacher, mentor, and author, based out of the USA.
