  1. Episode 1: The Cafe

    Aug 17, 202645 min

After five and a half years, the Broom Tree Cafe is closing its doors. In this episode, we reflect on the story of the Cafe, from opening in the middle of a pandemic to becoming a place of connection, opportunity, nourishment, and hope for our community. Donna Abma and Jessica Brule talk about the people who made the Cafe what it was, the programs and initiatives that grew from it, and the countless ways our volunteers, customers, staff, and community have helped make an impact. We also share why The Broom Tree Foundation made the difficult decision to close the Cafe and what comes next. While this chapter is coming to an end, the mission of The Broom Tree Foundation is not. As we look ahead, our focus is turning toward expanding our food security programs and finding new ways to provide nourishment, dignity, education, and support to women and families in our community. This is a story about an ending, but even more so, it’s a story about what comes next. Refuge, Restore, Rebuild. The Broom Tree Foundation is walking alongside women and families as they move from crisis into a supportive, connected community. We offer a sustainable, whole-person approach that brings people together to offer hope, care, and lasting support.
