  1. 001: I didn't set out to become a content educator: the story behind It Girl Content from The It Girl Show, opens in a new tab

    Aug 17, 202612 min

If content has ever made you think, “Maybe I’m just shit at this,” this episode is for you. In the very first episode of The It Girl Show , I’m taking you back to where It Girl Content actually started — and spoiler: I did not set out to become a content educator. I’m sharing how 15+ years as a professional photographer, years of building and marketing businesses online, a pregnancy, a slightly different business plan aaaand a LOT of market research eventually led me here. Because the more I spoke to female business owners, the more I kept hearing the same things: “I don’t know what to film.” “I look awful on camera.” “My house isn’t nice enough.” “I’m not photogenic.” “I don’t have the right equipment.” And I realised something pretty bloody important: A lot of the things women were treating like personal deficiencies were actually skill deficiencies. Maybe you’re not “bad on camera.” Maybe nobody ever taught you how to pose. Maybe your house isn’t the problem. Maybe nobody taught you how to use light, framing and backgrounds. Maybe you don’t need a better phone, more equipment or a six-hour cinematic Reel. Maybe you just need to understand how to use what you already have. In this episode, I’m talking about how my photography brain and business brain eventually collided, why I don’t think you need to become a full-time content creator to market your business well, and what being an “It Girl” actually means around here. Because this isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about becoming really bloody good at a skill that used to feel really bloody hard — so content can stop taking up quite so much space in your brain. And if your current problem is simply, “Olivia, wtf am I actually supposed to film?” I’ve got you. Grab my free It Girl B-roll guide from the show notes and I’ll show you seven simple clips you can film in less than 30 minutes and reuse again and again. No complicated production required. And no, it’s not just seven different ways to drink a cup of coffee.
