Good morning, everyone. Let’s just have a day abiding as pure aware being. ««»» You can have your eyes open or closed, whenever you prefer. ««»» Consciously aware of the pure subjective knowing I am myself. ««»» Just resting at the source before thoughts arise and all of that. Just being there. ««»» This pure knowing being is always here. Always the same, doesn’t change. ««»» Everything rising out of that is in constant change, constant movement. ««»» All the different colors, flavors, textures of form. ««»» An endless amazing display. Never ending, never the same from one moment to the next. ««»» And yet I am the same always. Fascinating. ««»» Your security, your safety, your wellbeing, your contentment is all here. Always available completely. ««»» So for this moment, just be that. And notice it throughout your day as well. ««»» This is self-love. This is bhakti. Devotion to your own well-being, health, goodness, purity. ««»» So yeah, throughout the day, just recognize this again and again. No effort or pressure or force or anything like that. Just notice, that’s all. Notice that. What is constantly changing and what always is. Two sides of the same coin. ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Good morning, everyone. I wanted to share the opening holiday from yesterday’s open meeting on Zoom. So great to be with everyone. Very beautiful meeting, great people, excellent conversations also. But for now, this is just the opening holiday that I shared. Enjoy. We’re just going to be together for a moment in a very simple recognition. Something that’s always true, always so obvious. So just for a moment now, very gentle, relaxed. Just allow attention not to rest on any object thoughts or sensations or any of the sensory objects, but just attend to your own self, pure aware being. ««»» Simply know that you are, that’s all. ««»» Not anything in particular, no name or anything, no story, no nationality, gender. Just purely here now being. ««»» I like to say relax the focus of attention. Relax is a good word. Relax attention. Attention is often attracted to something, contracting on something. Nothing wrong with that, but now we’re going to just relax that contraction. Be purely open, knowing, aware. ««»» Normally when we say I, we are referring to something, this body, this story of self, this limited ephemeral temporal object, that’s I. But now when we say I, I want us to relax and go prior to all of that rising. Prior to that rising of self, pure aware being, I. ««»» What am I when I’m not relating as my name? ««»» What am I when I’m not relating as my opinions and beliefs? ««»» What am I when I’m not relating as my history, story, past? ««»» When I’m not referring to myself as anything, what am I? ««»» I still am, obviously. I am. ««»» Without any of those attributes of name and form, and history and opinions, With no attributes whatsoever. Pure aware being. I am. ««»» I don’t need my name to be. ««»» I don’t need my nationality to be, my skin color to be. ««»» I don’t need my personal history and story to be. I don’t need any of that to be, do I? So I say for a moment, be nothing of that, just simply aware. ««»» Prior to thought, I am. ««»» I don’t need thought to know I am. ««»» I don’t need any concept or idea to know I am. ««»» I don’t need anything other than myself, I am, to know I am. Pure subject, no object needed. Pure subject, knowing myself. Can’t be denied. Doesn’t need anything else. Doesn’t need anything else. I simply am. ««»» Doesn’t need a name, doesn’t need any of that, nothing. Pure being. Pure subject. ««»» Prior to the rising I that has all of its attributes, name and form and ideas and history, beliefs, opinions, all of it, myriad attributes, prior to that rising I that has those attributes prior to that, I am. ««»» And so for a moment, let’s just be that. ««»» The good news is this is always the case, always the case, always the case. Mostly we’re just not aware of it, but when we’re aware of it, it’s the most obvious thing in the world. Nothing can be more obvious. And the most simple also. So that was from yesterday’s open meeting. ««»» I think it’s a good introduction to what a holiday is. It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Good morning, everyone. Let’s see what’s here today. I often say, Holiday reveals everything. So, let’s find out what it’s going to reveal. Let’s see. Okay. Let’s be together, Holiday. You know what that is. Pure, aware of being. ««»» One of the most important tenets of Vedanta and Indian teachings is called Viveka, which means to discriminate. Well, to just speak very metaphorically, to discriminate between what’s true and what’s false. And that’s equally true for our work. I don’t use the word true or false, but the point being be able to discern between what I actually am, alive, now, sentient, vibrant with being, and what appears as I, which is the time-based story of self replete with enormous amount of attributes. Birth and death, for example. Fears and desires, opinions and preferences, hopes. The thing about all of those attributes Of course, when they’re appearing, they seem, and for all intents and purposes, are very real, no question. Not to deny that. But each and every one of those is gone instantly when you come to know your essential, timeless being, which is free of attributes. Like now, for example. ««»» So it’s not about saying those things don’t arise and those things don’t have their own validity. What it’s about is what do we put our main being and existence on? Do we put it on the fleeting, ever-changing, suffering-inducing, appearing self that has really, in truth, no actual substance to it, all of that mind activity? Or do we put most of our value on the eternal, content being that we always are? So this is where Viveka or discrimination comes in, discernment. To see this and to live more like this. ««»» So a Holiday, for a moment, is to be that which is eternal, always true, always actual, always what I am prior to any characteristics. Like now. ««»» The reason it’s so important to have Viveka or discrimination is to see the spell that’s cast by mind, and to break that spell. Unless we know what that is, that spell of self, that hypnotizing movement, unless we know that very clearly, and also know an alternative, that which is alive prior to that, what I am, then we really have no chance of being free, do we? ««»» The difference is very clear. This is in your own experience. ««»» So it’s good to see this. It’s good to know this. And it’s good to come out into the sun more and more. Make that part of your life experience, daily, ordinary life lived experience. Not a big deal, not a practice, just a new way of being. ««»» The more you live like this, the more it’s just, you know, you’re convinced, I’m free. Doesn’t matter what’s coming and going. Doesn’t matter where attention is going. Doesn’t matter if there are thoughts and all of that. Because you’re convinced, you’re free and you become convinced by living this more and more and really discerning the difference between the two and coming to know doubtlessly that what I actually am is now, here, alive, aware, sentient being. This is what I actually am. And so then the appearances are fine, no problem. So for a moment, let’s be together. Pure aware being. ««»» And come to this throughout your day, no matter what you’re doing. Really very simple, isn’t it? Very natural, very ordinary. It’s the end of you in a way, the end of the seeker. The end of the separative divisive movement of self. You can see that for sure. ««»» Pure aware being. True now, true always, true for everyone. ««»» Good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. www.liberationis.com Salvadore Poe - Liberation IS is a reader-supported publication. Good morning, everyone. Let’s look into the solidity of objects or form. When I say objects or form, I mean everything that’s perceivable, the body, its sensations, thoughts, emotions, the sensory objects, and also ego. Which is as well an object. So, let’s have a holiday for a moment. Be together here. Pure aware being, as we saw yesterday. Just pure aware being. ««»» When we’re being as that, it’s easy, I think, to recognize that there is no inside or outside. I don’t stop at the skin line or something like that and then the world begins. My actual being permeates everything, doesn’t it? You can say everything is permeated with being. And that being is one, it doesn’t end somewhere, not centralized somewhere or located anywhere. Try to recognize that now. ««»» Just notice the body, which is myriad sensations. It’s really, well, have a look. Maybe close your eyes for a moment and see what this body is. Is it actually solid or isn’t it more like a field of myriad sensations and movements, energies, subtle. Have a look at that. ««»» If you can avoid the picture the mind wants to paint of a body sitting here, and that’s a very normal thing for the mind to do. But in your own actual direct knowing experience, what shape is the body? Isn’t it just a field of energetic sensation, movement, energies, subtle, a little bit more gross? ««»» Just notice that really, see. ««»» It’s really a spacious field permeated by being. Not solid. And this is your own experience, you see for yourself. ««»» Being also doesn’t end anywhere. What skin line? Skin? Line? What? Hmm? Really? ««»» Other than the mind’s painting of that, but in truth, see for yourself, what skin line? ««»» In truth, the body is more transparent than solid, isn’t it? See for yourself. Being bursts right through all of it. Not stopping somewhere. ««»» So really, you can see for yourself, the body is transparent. Being permeates the body. It is , through the body. Being is, through the body, permeating the body with no end. ««»» You can open your eyes, all of the visual objects, whatever’s in your environment now, permeated with being. ««»» Being is ubiquitous. Being is what I am at the root, the core, the source, the essence. ««»» Aware being, permeating the body and beyond. Permeating all of the sensory objects and beyond. ««»» Even thoughts and emotions. When thoughts are there, being permeates those thoughts as well. You might not consciously be aware of it at first, but there are many times when you are. Often there are just thoughts going in the background, somehow you’re not really attending to the thoughts. They’re there, but you’re not really paying attention And in those moments especially you can see being permeates all of that. Thoughts are transparent in that way as well, like the body. ««»» You can even begin to notice more and more, even the more compelling thoughts. They’re not solid. The more you know yourself as aware being, the less you, well, I don’t know, fall for it or something like that, I guess. And the more you begin to recognize that I am here, a present aware being throughout the thoughts as well. ««»» Emotions also. Anger appears, it’s permeated by aware being, it’s transparent. Even that, any of the emotions, sadness, depression, happiness, joy, excitement, fear, whatever it might be, jealousy, all of it is permeated by me. Aware being. Transparent. ««»» So what to do about this? Nothing. Except, keep coming to know yourself as aware being. Abide more and more as that. Be gentle about it. Don’t judge yourself if you get so-called lost in thoughts for a while. It doesn’t matter. But gently come back to pure aware being. Often. ««»» Make this be your way of being more and more. ««»» Like now, what I am, pure where-being permeating everything. ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Good morning, everyone. I thought today we can just really abide as pure aware being, really come to know that more and more, see its profound nature, its value, and really recognize more and more that that’s what I am. That’s who I am at source. So for a moment, just allow attention to be open. ««»» Prior to any movements of the body or the mind, all of which are fine, but prior to that, we’re just attending to ourself. ««»» So, what do I mean by pure aware being? Well, aware, we can’t deny that, right? Aware is not a thing or an object like awareness or something, but just simply aware. Can’t deny that, right? ««»» And being, you can’t deny that you are, I am. Not I am this or I am that, simply, I am. This is being, isn’t it? ««»» So, aware being. Two aspects of you, that are really the same. ««»» And I say pure because this is stainless, spotless, untouched by any movements of body or mind. ««»» Pure aware being has no name, has no form, has no color, texture, time, history, opinions, preferences, beliefs, fears, worries, birth or death, Pure Aware Being. Just now, for a moment, be that. ««»» All of those attributes that I mentioned come with the rising I. ««»» You can see that for yourself. If you’re just here, pure aware being, and I say, for example, “there’s no fear in pure aware being.” Then you say, “yes, but I noticed some fear. “This is just one example. You can choose whatever you want. But I noticed some fear. Okay. Where is that fear arising? ««»» It’s arising as an attribute of the rising I. The self-ego that sees itself as an individual, separate. ««»» Or if you say, “okay, you say pure aware being has no time, no past, but what about my past?” Okay. Again, where is that past appearing? What is that past attributed to? The rising I, of course. ««»» The rising I is the ego, separative self, all of that. The one that has a story. The one that has history. But right now, pure aware being. ««»» If you can recognize this as what I am eternally, prior to rising as a separate I, but what I am eternally, if you can recognize that, then you can also say, I have no history. I only am. ««»» Is that clear? I think for most people. ««»» So a holiday is to know myself not as the rising I with its attributions, its separation from everything else, not to know myself as that, but to know myself prior to the rising of that, pure aware being. ««»» And so, I say, know yourself in a little different way than you’ve known before. ««»» No need to deny anything. The body, thoughts, emotions, experiences, sensory perceptions, no need to deny anything. Those all are here arising just as wave rises out of the ocean. When a wave rises out of the ocean, what you’re looking at is ocean with the name wave on it. So when you look at yourself, body, mind and all of that, what you’re looking at is source rising as whatever is rising in this moment in form and appearance. ««»» This is what I say is non-duality. I’m not just awareness. I’m awareness and also the rising body-mind. The rising body mind is source in appearance. Not two. ««»» So for a moment, let’s just be, pure aware being ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Good morning, everyone. You know, it doesn’t really matter if attention is going to objects. It’s very natural for that to happen, even thoughts. The main event really is to be convinced completely that my timeless aware being is eternally here. And that really the movements of life, whether they’re pleasant or unpleasant, are okay. That is what life is, embodied life. So, it’s not about never having thoughts or never having attention go to an object or something like that. If we have that idea, then there is someone here who has a problem. And that problem being, “oh no, I was attending to something for the last five minutes or two hours”, or whatever. So there must be something wrong. And so that’s not what we’re doing. Having said that, and without any pressure or force, coming out into the sun of pure aware being, my eternal essential nature, is good. Well, in your own experience, you know, and I think that’s what we’ll talk about today, in your own experience, release from the contracted attention to self is very good, isn’t it? Let’s just face it, you know. Because there you recognize contentment. Nothing is lacking, everything’s complete and whole. This is what I am. You recognize you’re a really true essential being which is complete and whole and lacking nothing and really has no fear and has no birth and death either. It’s simply aware being now. And so yes, it’s good to be as that a lot. Let’s do that now for a moment. ««»» You’re immediately off the carousel of endless movement, endless insecurity, endless projection, fear and desire, worries and problems, hopes and desires, all of that. When we have a holiday, we’re immediately off of that carousel. Let’s have another moment of that. ««»» If you recognize this pure aware being as your core, really, or your root, or your source, or whatever, your essence, what I am, then you recognize really the contentment and ease of being, and end of seeking anything in the world. Just a contentment of being. ««»» It’s good for that to be very clear for you. It’s very experiential, isn’t it? This is really your experience of living, of life, of what I am, can be this. ««»» And the other thing that’s important to recognize is the experience of rising with the I and the carousel involved with that. When we rise with the I and get into that whole world, of self, with time, past and future, story of me, good me, bad me, hopes, fears, desires, concerns and worries, life and death, well, that’s a very different experience, isn’t it? ««»» And that experience, or that self, that story, is, it’s really a phantom, isn’t it? It’s not an actual being, because actual being is what I am, actual being, being is what I am. Rising as self is a movie projected on the screen of being. And just like a movie on the screen in a theater, the movie is only shadow and light. it has no actual substance. The only real substance there is the screen. The only substance of you is pure aware being. ««»» So again, using the discernment of seeing the difference between those two makes you realize that just falling for that story and being thrown around by it is silly, really, you know? It’s, of course, what my whole life has been, what the life of human consciousness has been due to the fact that we haven’t known anything different, so there’s no fault. But really having the discernment to see what’s going on there and to see how much our experience of life and also our response and reaction in life as well, how we live this life, how much it’s affected by that story, which is shadow and light, has no actual substance and is a phantom. How much does that affect our experience of being and our way of being as well in the world? ««»» And so, to circle back to what I said earlier, to have the idea that you’re never going to attend to that rising I story is not so realistic, perhaps. What’s more realistic and very doable is to know the difference between pure aware being, which is actual who I am and the phantom story that rises that I get caught up with and in and act in this world as. To know the difference between the two, discernment. And so, even without killing that rising I and having it never rise again, even without that happening, because you know what’s going on between pure aware being and the phantom I, you know it brings a different quality to your life and your being just by that fact of knowing this and being convinced and doubtless that my essence is pure aware being. That’s what I am. And this rising phantom I is not even a problem, is it? No problem. Let it come, let it go. ««»» I hope I’m getting my point across here because I don’t want to give the impression that you have to be on Holiday 24 hours a day. If you never have another thought again for the rest of your life, that’s all good and well. It’s not realistic nor even necessary. So what I want to say is that you’re free regardless of the so-called rising I, which actually isn’t an I. It’s a phantom I. It’s not really I. What I am is a where-being. And I rise like a movie on a screen as shadow and light, and I call that myself. And fine, no problem. ««»» The Bible says “know what’s true and truth will set you free”, which means know what’s true and knowing this will set you free. It doesn’t say,”kill the ego and killing the ego will set you free.” You’re already free. Ego is just a phantom. And fine. Again, let it come, let it go. But know yourself truly, genuinely, and doubtlessly at your root, which is pure aware being, what I am. And then you will see your life will come to more ease, more peace, more contentment, less fear, less desire, less worry. More surrender to what is, and without denying any movements, living this life fully as well, you know. ««»» Let’s have a holiday for a moment, pure aware being prior to the rising of the phantom I. ««»» Secure, safe, home, fulfilled, complete, content, happy. That’s what I am. Always. ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. www.liberationis.com Salvadore Poe - Liberation IS is a reader-supported publication. Good morning, everyone. Leaving everything as it is, thoughts, sensations, emotions, sensory objects, not trying to do anything at all with any of that. What’s behind all of it? ««»» Words are imperfect, of course, so the word behind or prior to can never really be accurately describing, but as an invitation. So for a moment, just leave everything as it is. Don’t do anything. ««»» Just to be behind, prior to, beneath, all of that. ««»» When you’re just resting as or abiding as that, it’s very natural for there to be a palpable vibration of silence or peace. It manifests in the body actually as a subtle, pleasant vibration in a way. ««»» The body is only energetic movement, isn’t it? Vibration in a way. And it vibrates at more and more gross levels, you know, thoughts and sensations and all of that. But the subtlest level of its vibration, you can say the first touch of the manifestation of the body is a very subtle, well, dare I say, blissful silence. ««»» If you take a little time to relax, be gentle, continue to take attention away from the moving objects of thoughts and sensations and all of that, and just rest it on your own subjective being, you’ll likely sense or experience that what I’m speaking about. ««»» And while attaining a state of silence or bliss or peace is not the goal, because in truth I’m the knowing of that as well, so even prior to that subtle movement I am, it’s very good to come to know this because it invites you to turn attention to yourself prior to the moving mind, body and all of that and be silent, be still. ««»» So the invitation of this subtle, silent vibration of peace is to just take attention back to yourself and be there. ««»» And nothing needs to be denied for that at all. ««»» So I would invite you to just be prior to the rising, divisive, separating, limiting movement of self and to just be as you are, to be still. ««»» This stillness, what you are, is fully alive. It is life itself. It’s the source of all of the arising movements. And it vibrates with life. And it vibrates with life now, eternally. ««»» And it vibrates as I as well. I, free of name and form. Of time, past and future. Free of story of self. Free of all of the manifold attributions of that story of self. Simply to be, I. ««»» So it’s good to touch into this. You can listen to these audios, which is hopefully helpful for that. And also just sit by yourself sometimes, or you don’t have to be sitting. Walking is a great way to tune into this, actually. Really anything you’re doing. ««»» Don’t deny any movement, any movement of the body, any movement of the mind, nothing. Just simply be that which is behind it all. Always present. ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. www.liberationis.com Salvadore Poe - Liberation IS is a reader-supported publication. Good morning, everyone. We had a really great mini-intensive this weekend. I think 56 people came. And it was about three hours each night. First couple of hours really immersing in timeless aware being, which was quite powerful. And then we had some really nice conversations after that also. So thank you very much everyone for coming. I really enjoyed being with you all. I’ll likely hold a full seven-week online intensive beginning in November, just to mention. One topic that came up last night, which I thought would be good to inquire into today together, My intention is only and always to, as best as I’m able, reveal something. I don’t want to talk about enlightenment or philosophize about anything. Give some great new beautiful sentences or concepts or any, that doesn’t interest me. What does interest me and my only interest really is to hopefully use a few words to crack open a light in your own knowing and being. And then whatever words are used are not important at all. It’s the recognition that’s important. And I think most people that come to work with me realize that and also get that as well. And honestly, for many people, if not most people, the recognition is quite simple. Rarely is there someone that really can’t recognize what I’m trying to point to. For the most case, we can recognize it, you know, because it’s very simple. It’s your own essential being, so it’s actually quite simple and obvious as well. But that’s the easy part. That’s the beginning. Turns out it’s also the end. But because of habits of the mind and doubts and centuries and millennia old human conditioning, although with yes, extremely simple, it’s not as simple as having one recognition and being finished. So as I say, the recognition is the beginning, but it’s also the end. Although we don’t really know it’s the end yet. But we will. We’ll realize that. So what’s required? The human condition for everyone is that mind is very distracting, alluring, compelling, invasive even. And it seems like a struggle to not engage with the mind. And, of course, yes, that’s true. So, paradoxically, in a way, the recognition is effortless. But, for it to become really doubtless and really the locus of your being takes what can appear to be, and for all intents and purposes is, effort. Because as I said, we’re going against the millennia old human condition of being attracted and compelled by mind and thoughts. So, what’s the effort involved? Well first I say it’s very important to have a clear recognition of your timeless aware being and then secondly to see the really vast difference between that and our normally confused limited experience of being. When we really start seeing the difference, then we begin to value this recognition of freedom more. And in that itself, we become more attracted to that and more desirous of that. So that’s the natural aspect, the natural way, or the natural part of this. So I try to make it clear the beauty and the value of this recognition of timeless aware being, fully content, at peace, at rest, fulfilled, whole, complete, seeking nothing, lacking nothing. When we see that naturally, we become more attracted to it. And as I say, even fall in love with it more and more. And then naturally we’re drawn to being that way. And yet even still, we have to admit, there is still tremendous pull towards attraction to the mind. And because of our many years and eons of falling for that and not taking a stand in freedom, we have, in a way, a weakness that makes us succumb to the mind very easily. And we can see for ourselves, when the mind barks, you jump, let’s be honest, you know. Everything’s very, very interesting in there, isn’t it? Just be honest, yes, everything’s very interesting in my mind, you know. My mind, wow, my mind is so interesting. So yeah, we’re very interested in what goes on in there, you know. And it’s good to just notice that. So what to do? Well, really being tired of all of that is a very good place to be, or fed up. And then coming to the point where we, you know, in a way, take a stand and say, no, I’m going to be free. Because I know what that is. I have recognized it so clearly, you know, it’s so obvious. So no, I’m going to take a stand in freedom. I’m going to not follow every thought that comes into my mind. And as soon as I notice that I’m following those thoughts, I’m going to come out into the sun of pure being, pure timeless aware being. And I’m going to notice how attracted I really am in there still. Something’s very interesting, you know. And I’m going to notice that quite often I succumb as well. But I’m going to notice also that the truth is I don’t have to succumb to that. I can say freedom, that’s what I want. And when that happens is now always. It’s always now. It’s always whenever the mind starts attracting or compelling. That’s when that movement of freedom is essential. That’s where the rubber meets the road. And we see which way did we go in this moment. And you know what? No judgment. This is not a judgment at all. I don’t judge anything. The human condition is as it is. There’s no fault of yours or mine or anyone. So it’s not to judge. It’s to see and notice. That’s all. To see how I operate. To see what is compelling. See what makes me succumb. And that’s all. One thing liberation is definitely not is a magic wand. It’s not gonna just happen. Otherwise it already would have. And it’s not that the teacher or the person sharing the message or whatever you go to, the guru or the master, can wave their hand over you and have you be enlightened all of a sudden. It doesn’t work that way. Someone like me, as I said, wants to reveal something for you in your own being. And that’s possible. That can be done. That’s as far as I can do, really. I can hopefully help make a little crack of light for something to shine through that you recognize, that’s your own recognition, your own knowing within you, nothing to do with me. It’s your own being. That I can do, hopefully. I can also point out or let it be seen how really beautiful and valuable this recognition is. That I can also hopefully do as well. But what I can’t do is live freedom for you. That’s totally, completely up to you. And so, in that case, it can look like effort is needed. But it’s a little, you know, the word effort can seem very doership-y, like I’m the doer now all of a sudden. But it’s not really, that’s not really what it is, because whatever effort comes up is also not created by anyone here. It’s here. The effort is here. Why? Because for whatever reason, you want freedom, you’re fed up with so-called bondage, you’ve recognized a new way that’s possible, and out of that arises the intention, or the effort to take that stand in freedom. And so yeah, we can’t wait around for the magic wand or the lottery of enlightenment to strike our heads. It doesn’t work that way. It works by being devoted to freedom, to truth, to the love of self, the real love of self. It takes falling in love with pure being. Seeing the value of that and the difference to discern between that which is essentially true and eternal now and that which is fleeting and ephemeral and causes birth and death and suffering. And so yeah, everyone who was on the intensive, really so happy to have been with you, that’s wonderful. You have the audios to listen to. Listen again, and you know, know freedom is really, you can have that, you can have that. You just have to, as I just explained, you know, take a stand, you know. If you’re listening to this and you weren’t on the intensive, many of these audios are available to listen to if you’d like to. They’re all pointing to the same thing. So you can listen to these audios. Or come to open meetings, talk to me there. Or if you’re inclined to join a future intensive also. Freedom is for you. Have it. You can have it. It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. www.liberationis.com Salvadore Poe - Liberation IS is a reader-supported publication. Good morning everyone. At the core or root of every experience, every appearance, is the one aware being that is myself at essence. Let’s be on holiday for a moment. Pure being knowing. ««»» Aware or pure being, but let’s say aware, is constant and here through all experiences. And also through all three states, waking, dream and deep sleep. ««»» And so on a holiday, we just simply attend to pure being aware. And be that for a moment. ««»» This is what I am always, whether I’m consciously aware of it or not. And I know it’s what I am always, because anytime I care to notice, here I am again, the same aware being. ««»» And through every experience before, during and after, I am the same aware being. ««»» So it can be said that what I am at the root or at the heart is aware being. That’s what I am always. And at the same time, I appear as the ever-changing form. Body, mind, thoughts, emotions, sensations, sensory objects. I appear as that. ««»» But my eternal being is simply aware. My ever-changing appearance is the myriad forms, colors, shapes, names that are in constant movement. ««»» And there’s no problem with the form, with the changing aspects of body and mind. It’s not something to get over or get rid of or kill or transcend. The only issue or problem, I guess, is that I’ve come to know myself as exclusively that changing aspect. And I’ve reified that into an actual being that has some substance, solidity and permanence. It’s become the main event of what I am. And by doing that, I’ve limited myself to something that was born and something that will die. ««»» And I suffer along with the ups and downs of that, fears and desires of that movement. The gains and the losses of that movement. Because I’ve come to know myself exclusively as that, and erroneously as well, because I am not exclusively that, at all. What I am eternally is aware being. ««»» The word Shivashakti, one word, points to what I am. I am Shiva, the unmanifest, appearing as Shakti, the manifested energy. I am both. ««»» Knowing myself as aware being, the core, the root, the essence, doesn’t deny the Shakti aspect of what I am either. It means I abide as my eternal being while enjoying the manifested rising of the person. ««»» And no longer thinking there’s something to be fixed here, or changed, or transcended. No longer arguing with this particular person, which happens to have a name attached to it, in this case called Sal. No longer arguing with that. Sal as the person, Sal manifesting as it is in each moment, cannot be anything other than it is. So why argue? ««»» When we live exclusively as that, then we have to argue with it and we have to fix it and correct it and change it and transcend it and get over it. But when we live as our root essence, timeless, eternal being, then we know we don’t have to fix anything and we no longer argue with the person that’s appearing. ««»» It’s good news because you don’t have to get rid of anything, change anything, transcend anything either, none of that. Just simply notice what you are at the core, that’s all. Very simple. And abide there, have that be your main place of abidance. And then that’s what you are. You are that. So for a moment, know my self-aware being. ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. www.liberationis.com Salvadore Poe - Liberation IS is a reader-supported publication. Good morning, everyone. Why don’t we just sit together today? I’m not even going to say anything after I just open up the holiday. And then we’ll just be together. For how long? I don’t know. Don’t wait for me to speak or anything like that. Let’s just see. Just attend to pure being, your own essential nature. Just be that. While you’re doing that, notice the movements of mind coming in, notice the distractions, notice the things that pull your attention and distract you from attending to yourself. And then very gently, when you notice that, just come back to pure being again. Know yourself as the source of all of that. And just be there, very relaxed, very easy. Everything will come, everything will go, and you remain. So, for a moment, let’s be on holiday together. ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Good morning everyone. What is the resistance to just being? What is the pull that seems to take us away from that? Is there a sense that something is being overlooked or neglected? Avoided? Not given value? Is it the idea that there is something very important in the mind that needs to be attended to? Is it this idea of ego that doesn’t want to relent, lose its own status, its own dominance as the center, the locus of attention? Is there, as is with many people with traumatic backgrounds or PTSD, those movements when they appear are very powerful and demand a lot of attention, and rightfully so. So, is there like a sense of loss if I’m not attending to the movements of the mind, the story of myself? Is there a feeling of losing something there? It can even maybe be a feeling of sadness, like losing a friend or losing a loved one or something, or losing myself. Those are all very valid things that I just mentioned. There are things in the human experience, trauma and PTSD and all those things that can be benefited by attention to them, by modalities to help in some way give some peace, some relief to alleviate that pressure to somewhat of an extent anyway, or maybe largely. And so in that case, just being on Holiday can seem trite in a way. And, as if you are ignoring something important or not dealing with something or denying something. And that can be the case, perhaps. But other than severe trauma or PTSD that is extremely compelling, everyone has things in their lives that are challenging or even traumatic. Everyone, no one goes through life unscathed. So, leaving aside the extremes for now, for someone who wants to come to know peace and freedom, living freedom is very powerful means, no question about it. And if there’s a sense of loss, like I’m losing something or neglecting something, and again, if it’s not something very extreme, if there’s a sense of loss from neglecting something, then have a look, is what I seem to be neglecting really so important? Is the sense of loss just that personal movement of ego, recognizing that it’s doomed, basically? Ego, the personal self, what I am, what I’ve thought myself to be my whole life is kind of like my best friend. To be ready and willing to be what you are prior to that can seem like losing a friend in a way for some people. Because ego is like your doppelganger, isn’t it? It’s the image of yourself in form, closer than a twin, closer than an identical twin. It seems to be you. And so, living free of that is like losing yourself. Or it can be, anyway. We have this idea that we should not ignore or bypass or deny. We have to attend to it. So, and again, as I said, for, you know, people with extreme trauma or PTSD, of course, ignoring isn’t going to do anything. It’s not going to help. Although I’ve worked with people with severe trauma who have been benefited greatly by this work, so there’s no one way. But for the most of us, whatever level of psychological confusion is there, we can attend to that which is prior to that, of course. But we find ourselves to be very compelled or interested with the movements of mind, very habitual, deeply ingrained. So, no fault. Which is why as simple as this work is, as simple as this message is, as simple as the recognition itself is, it’s not trivial to actually live this. One needs to be devoted, really devoted to their own freedom, their own contentment and peace more than they’re devoted to the movements of personal self as mind. I want to present what I know to be or consider to be the highest potential and for those who resonate and are ready to live that more and more, and I don’t at the same time deny that other modalities can be needed or necessary for some people. And even after having a recognition as I share, even if it’s very clear, and even if it’s doubtless, still if there are some things that need to be straightened out, okay, then do that, of course. But if it’s not so strong as to be debilitating, Then I say, take yourself seriously and live freedom. And I say, if you’re ready to live freedom, then do that for sure. Do it, you know. Just notice, as always, in your own laboratory, this body-mind, which is your laboratory, just notice the interest in the movements of mind, the movements of personal self, the movements of personal story, the movements of time, past and future. Just notice those movements and the interest in attending to those. That’s all. Not a judgment. Simply notice. That’s all. And when you notice, come out into the sun of pure being and simply be here free of it. Free of the personal self. Free of the story of me. Free of the past and future story of me. Free of, you know, even the traumas. And just be. It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. Good morning, everyone. Surrender. I heard from a friend today who has many life changes happening now, wondering how to navigate that and having the feeling of the need to control the outcome. Very natural, isn’t it? For all of us, of course. Let’s be on holiday for a moment. ««»» Timeless Essential Innate Being Already Home Complete Fulfilled Content Maybe you recognize that. ««»» Always here as well, whenever we care to notice. ««»» The desire or need to control our life’s circumstance and situation is, of course, the need for the promise of security, the promise that everything’s going to be okay, the promise that I’m okay. And then I’m going to be fine. ««»» The Play of Leela, the Maya, the world of form and all that appears, it’s constantly changing. There’s never security in that at all. There’s never stability in that at all. Everything is in constant movement, flux, change. Anything can be gained or lost in any moment. Always, you know for yourself. ««»» So, while it’s understandable to seek security in the known, of course, “I know what’s going to happen. I can control what’s going to happen. It will end up the way I want it to end up.” Very natural, of course, because that which wants that security is the rising I itself that is inherently not secure. ««»» And so you, rising as the personal self, immediately feel insecure and seek some kind of security in the known. ««»» But the truth is nothing is known. Everything can end right now, finished, over, done. ««»» So, all of the teachings and religions speak about surrender. And it’s true. But what does it mean? You can’t choose to surrender, you can’t do surrender. If so, it can often feel like, okay, I give up, it’s hopeless, it’s useless, you know, that kind of dejected mindset. But that’s not true surrender. Let’s have a holiday. ««»» Here and now, prior to the rising I, unborn being. ««»» What a holiday is, is the surrender of ego, the surrender of the rising I. That’s what a holiday is, for a moment. ««»» But more importantly is to recognize in this holiday that I am perfectly fine, fulfilled, whole, complete, content. ««»» I’ll never find those things in the world of form, in and of itself, in the acquiring or attaining the desire or wish of ego, of my personal I-self. Because that’s completely temporal, ephemeral, fleeting. I’ll never attain security there. ««»» It’s already attained as myself. That’s the only place it’s ever attained. So surrender is knowing that. ««»» One interesting thing to note is that however many years you’ve been here alive as this body-mind, how many things have you lost? How many things have gone your way or not gone your way? How many things have come and gone? And how are you now in this moment? Look right this moment on holiday, how are you? ««»» Well, if you’re resting as your timeless being, you know you’re completely fine, don’t you? ««»» How much worry and concern and fear have you gone through in your life over the gaining and losing of those objects? And look at yourself now, fine. So, what happened? ««»» If your peace and contentment is dependent on the outcome of a wish or desire, well, then, you know, you’re in trouble. For one reason, then you’re projecting, constantly projecting into the future how it’s going to be later when I get what I want, when things are in the particular order that I want them to be in. But, you know, if that happens, it’s a coincidence, but quite often that’s not the way it happens, is it? ««»» Surrender is knowing there is no control over the future, over the events of life. There’s no control over any of that. Again, sometimes something happens that matches with my desire for it, but quite often that’s not the case. ««»» Surrender is knowing that there actually is no control, and being not only fine with that, but being very happy with that. Because it’s the end of the one who needs control. You see, surrender is not the rising I surrendering. Surrender is the end of the rising I that needs to be in control. Like now, for a moment, let’s be on holiday together, unborn. ««»» This moment now is surrender. Value freedom, value your own self, true self-love, love of my essential innate being, the true self of all, the source of all. Value that. ««»» And this way, everything’s fine, you know everything’s fine. ««»» Not only fine, more than fine, more than enough. ««»» You don’t do surrender. You as personal rising I ego self does not do surrender. You are surrender. That’s what you are. Just be that. ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. Good morning, everyone. Let’s see what’s here today. Just bring attention to your own being, that’s all. ««»» Consciously aware. ««»» That which always is prior to the movements arising and appearing out of that. ««»» Everything appears out of this, the source. Pure being, purely subjective consciousness. ««»» So we just go to the very root. ««»» Not aware of anything other than yourself, only yourself. ««»» By that I don’t mean in the peripheral of your consciousness the objects are not known. By that what I mean is you need nothing other than your own knowing, your own consciousness to know yourself. Nothing else is required. No object is required. Self-effulgent. The self-illuminating light of knowing, I know myself, I am, I. ««»» So, this is reducing yourself down to the very root. Pure being, consciously knowing myself. Satchitananda. ««»» Ananda means contentment. No rising I with its fears and desires, worries and concerns, nostalgias, hopes. ««»» In the absence of that rising I is content. Peace. Ananda. ««»» Always here, mostly overlooked, overshadowed by the gross appearances of mind, but never not here ever, not possible. ««»» And so we just come back to that. ««»» And what more is there? Where more is there to go? What more is there to find through seeking, intellectualizing, reading, conceptualizing? That’s the wrong direction. ««»» All of that reifies this separative ego, mind, self. The one who knows, the one who wants to know, the one who’s seeking, the seeker. All of those things reify that. ««»» Never to see beyond or below or previous to. Never seeing one’s true nature that way. Not possible. ««»» You can read the menu all day long and you’ll still be hungry. Stop reading the menu, start eating. And then you can discard the menu, not needed. ««»» So for a moment, unborn being prior to the rising I, consciously knowing myself, ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. Good morning, everyone. It’s interesting, the more we rest as pure being or abide as pure being or know ourselves as pure being, the more fascinating it is. Not because there’s anything happening or new, But, because it’s just endlessly fascinating somehow. Wherever you are, or whatever you’re doing, and all of that is great, everything of the world is perfectly great, but always at the root of all of that is me, myself, pure being. And that is endlessly fascinating. Even though that in and of itself is always the same. ««»» You may begin to notice that it doesn’t really matter what you’re doing. Maybe you’re doing a task that you don’t particularly like, you know, I don’t know, whatever that might be. Washing dishes or cleaning the kitchen or the bathroom or something. Or whatever else it might be for you. When you know yourself in that moment, when you’re abiding as yourself, that’s the main thing. And then in that way, it doesn’t really matter what the body is doing. Just notice that yourself in the course of your day. ««»» Be more and more fascinated with yourself, with pure being. And then each thing within that arising from that is also perfectly good. But it’s no longer so much of a preference or an aversion to the things that are happening. That has actually far-reaching implications. Things that we’re averse to. Can seemingly take us away from the peace and contentment of our being, you know? Well, a very gross and egregious example is politics. Politics is good because it’s such a really gross level intrusion into our peace, if we let it of course be. Of course nothing is an intrusion into our peace other than what we accept. ««»» But that’s a particularly interesting aversion to notice because it’s so stark. But when we’re really living freedom, when we’re really knowing the contentment of our own being, when we’re really knowing that our peace and happiness is not dependent on having our preferences met or the world or our circumstances aligning with the way we want them to be. If in that moment of aversion you can recognize that in fact that aversion doesn’t really touch my being at all. ««»» Then that’s a very powerful movement in consciousness. To graciously tap you on the shoulder and say, “turn around beloved, I’m still here”. ««»» Regardless of the aversion, dislike or distaste or anger or hatred or whatever it can be. Even in the midst of that, I’m still here. ««»» So yeah. Being fascinated with pure being, who I am, my essential innate self, is endlessly interesting, actually. And no matter what the body is doing during the course of the day, any chores or tasks, or no matter what the mind is doing, having opinions and preferences, and likes and dislikes and aversions and all of that, I’m still here, endlessly fascinating prior to all of that, regardless of all of that. ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. JOIN THE WEEKEND MINI INTENSIVE THE UNBOUND SPACE OF PURE BEING - August 22 - 23 Salvadore Poe - Liberation IS is a reader-supported publication. Good morning, everyone. Let’s see what’s here today. Okay, we spoke about philosophy yesterday a little bit. Being very much attached to gaining knowledge or information or knowing something. Knowing how things are or why things are or something like that. Or with the intellect understanding how everything fits together somehow with the hopes that that will bring us contentment. Well, I mean that’s ultimately what we’re looking for in anything, isn’t it? In a new car or a new house or more money or whatever it is, we’re looking for happiness, contentment. We want to come to rest. When we get what we’re looking for, we’ll come to rest. And maybe we do for a few minutes or very briefly. But of course, that doesn’t last. Well, it’s exactly the same with information and concepts and knowledge, spiritual or philosophical knowledge or something. We think that if we gain that piece of information, we’ll come to rest and be content. And again, that’s also not ultimately fulfilling at all. There’s always more with everything. There’s more money. There’s more knowledge as well. Well, that’s not where contentment lay, is it? Of course. ««»» In some teachings, in probably many teachings, really, in what state it is, peace is the absence of desire. Let’s look into it a little bit. What does it mean? It really means the desire to have something or attain something or get something with the conscious or subconscious hope that it will bring us peace and happiness and contentment. To want anything other than what is exactly in this moment is obviously a movement of the rising I. There can be a subtle or gross discontent with what is. From that discontent rises a desire, for something other. And hey, it’s completely natural to want things, so I’m not denigrating that movement, I’m just saying, let’s see what actually is going on, that’s all. If in this moment, like now, on holiday, ««»» You recognize the peace and contentment that is who you are at the core. Then what desire is needed? ««»» Already fulfilled. Already content. ««»» So they say the end of desire is freedom. And that’s true. Again, I’m not making any hyperbolic statements that thou shalt never desire something and would never be so flippant to say something like that. Because it’s natural to want something, of course. But what’s behind that desire, that’s the point. Is it really the object we want, or is it what we think the object will bring to us that we want? Really, have a look. Why do you want the new car, the new relationship? Why do you want the spiritual experience? Why do you want that piece of philosophical concept to be understood? ««»» In any of those objects, obviously, it’s not the object in itself that you actually want, it’s that you think the object’s going to bring you relief, contentment, fulfillment, wholeness, peace, happiness. ««»» The good news is all of those things I just described are already here, as your essential innate being, always, and very easy to notice also, any time. ««»» When you really know this, fine, go ahead, have everything. Have everything of the world, all is good. Nothing wrong with any of those objects. Well, I’m not so big on philosophy myself, but all of the nice worldly objects, what’s wrong with those? It’s all good. ««»» You can enjoy it all. But it’s good to know that you’re never going to attain ultimate peace and contentment from any of those objects. Have them, great. Enjoy them, wonderful. But first know thyself. Know thyself first. And all will be added onto you. ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. Good morning everyone. Today is one of those days, absolutely no ideas about what to speak about. So let’s find out together. ««»» The answer is not in the mind. The answer is not an answer to a question that satisfies the question. And that also, ostensibly satisfies the questioner. The question and the questioner are the same. They’re one and the same. When the question is there, the questioner is there as well. And when the question is gone, the questioner is gone as well. ««»» So the answer to a question is not about satisfying the questioner, or satisfying the question? The answer to all of these spiritual, philosophical questions is you. Like right now, blown wide open. ««»» The unbound space of pure being, yourself. ««»» Isn’t that so simple? ««»» It doesn’t satisfy the questioner, which is the rising I, ego. It doesn’t satisfy the question. No. It ends that. And then there’s no need for an answer to the question. And there’s no longer one who needs an answer to the question. Like now, blown wide open. ««»» Consciously aware of myself, unlimited, unlocalized, not centralized, ubiquitous, ever-present, here always. ««»» For one who is very intrigued by the mind and trying to figure things out and understand things or just liking to philosophize about things for whatever reason, one who’s really intrigued by that or fascinated by that or interested in that, it’s a challenge to be nothing, prior to all of that, just simply to be. ««»» The philosophical busyness that some people are engaged in really has nothing to do at all with being free. ««»» Freedom is free of that, and freedom is free of the one who needs that, or is interested in that, or is hoping to find some solution or resolution or answer in that. It’s free of that, the rising I. That’s what freedom is. It’s not the satisfaction of that. It’s the end of that. Like now. Always like now. So simple. Pure being. ««»» I’ve told this story I think on my last intensive or meeting or something. But it’s about Ramana Maharshi. There was an amazing being that came to Ramana early. He was Kavyakanti Muni. He was a towering intellect, a towering poet, a towering Sanskrit scholar. Amazing memory, incredible mind. And he recognized that Ramana was just a free, totally free jnani, pure being, you know. And Ramana respected him because he was an amazing person. But anyway, he went through his whole life very attached to his philosophy and philosophical mind and all of that, at a very high level. And then he died many years later. And someone asked Ramana Maharshi, “Kavyakati Muni died, did he attain liberation before he died?” And Ramana said, “how could he? He was too attached to his mind.” ' To be free is very simple. The way to be free is simply to be free. And to really be devoted to that or in love with that more than you’re in love with your mind. ««»» So, for freedom to be your condition, and if you’re inclined to engage in philosophical questioning or debating or trying to understand all of these teachings and the meanings of life and all of that, it’s good to see that. The way to be free means the end of that. Because the end of that is the end of the one who needs all of that. And that’s freedom, no? ««»» And so again, we don’t judge anything, but just see. See in your own mind. Everyone has somewhat of a philosophical mind in some ways, you know. Although some people are just fully bhakti, love, you know, devotion, which is a better route, actually, if you ask me. But we all more or less want to understand things in the spiritual game. And some are very infatuated with all of that. And so it’s just no judgment, but just see what it is for you, you know. If you want freedom, you won’t find it in that philosophical game. So what do you want? If you want freedom, then go for freedom. If you want to enjoy the philosophical mind game, that’s fine. Then go for that. No problem. For me, it’s clear. Like now. ««»» I don’t know the meaning of life. I don’t know why anything is as it is. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. I don’t know where anything came from. I simply know this moment here and now. And that’s more than enough. Because that’s the end of the one who needs all of those things or wants to know any of that stuff, the end of that one. And when that’s the case, then this here and now, the unknown, pure knowing is more than enough. It’s much more than enough. It’s the peace that passes understanding. Right. Exactly. It’s the peace that needs no understanding. It simply is. ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. Good morning, everyone. When’s the best time to have a holiday? Is it while you’re listening to me speak every morning? Well, sure, certainly that’s good. Is it when you’re your meditation cushion with your eyes open or eyes closed? Is dedicated time for having a holiday good or the best thing to do? Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, in all times and in all places, I am here. Know that. Like now for a moment. ««»» Life is not lived on the meditation cushion. Life is lived in the midst of family, in the midst of work, in the midst of crazy politicians, in the midst of traffic, in the midst of watching a movie, in the midst of daily life. That’s life. ««»» And in all of those circumstances, you can know I am here. ««»» Like now again. ««»» Just like now when we’re together, if you’re walking, whether inside your house or outside in nature, know that you’re here, know yourself, know I am. ««»» If you’re cooking, Know I Am. Know Yourself. ««»» If you’re having a shower. Know I Am. Know Yourself. ««»» In the middle of work. Know I am. Know yourself. Just like now. ««»» While being with your friends, know I am. Know yourself. Just like now. ««»» While watching a movie, know yourself, know I am. Just like now. ««»» If you only listen to these holidays for 10 or 15 minutes every day and have a very nice recognition, maybe feel good, feel a little peace, a little silence. That’s very nice. That’s good. But that’s not the main event, you know. The main event is your life. ««»» Nothing needs to change for you to know freedom. Nothing needs to change in the mind. Nothing needs to change in the body. Nothing needs to change in the environment you’re in. Nothing needs to change to know freedom. ««»» Why? Because what you are, what you are in essence, your pure eternal timeless being is always here and present with no exceptions whatsoever, ever. ««»» So when is the time to come to know this? Always now. Only now. ««»» In all times and in all places, I am here. Know that. ««»» Then it’s no longer a daily practice or a daily short meditation. No, no. Now it is living this, living it, now. When are you gonna live it? Later? No. Live it. Now. Always. ««»» When you start doing this and living this way, you’ll really start to enjoy it, this way of being. And then your life is an expression of that or a manifestation of that. ««»» And it’s fun. It’s nice. It’s not a struggle. It’s not effort. It’s not sitting down in a stiff position to try to meditate something or whatever. It’s just continuously coming out into the sun. Come out into the sun. Come out into the sun. Come out into the sun. Shine on yourself. The self-illuminating I. I know that I am. Pure being, timeless, eternal. Who I am. ««»» In all times and in all places, here I am. No exceptions. Know that. ««»» Good to be with you. I will be back again tomorrow. Peace. Good morning, everyone. What do you want? That’s a good question. Because as it turns out, you actually have what you want, or get what you want. So what do I mean by this? How does that apply to our work together? The old saying is that you need to want freedom as much as a drowning man wants air. If you’re drowning, you’re not thinking about yesterday or tomorrow or your work or your problems or your relationship or your partner or your children or anything, nothing. You’re thinking about one thing, air. And if you want freedom that much, then it’s absolutely completely done. But let’s face it. There are many things that interest us, compel us. And I’m not talking about the things to do in life. I’m speaking more about the unnecessary activities of our mind that for some reason continue to attract us, compel our attention, distract us from freedom or essential being, and for no beneficial purpose whatsoever, just very mechanical, repetitive, compulsive thinking. Okay, there’s no fault in that. There’s no one to blame. That’s the human condition, of course, you know. So much information and data has been impressed in our minds, our empty mind. And a lifetime of, in a way, laziness has kept us completely engaged following along with that. But there’s an alternative. And that alternative is readily available every single second of your existence. And it’s never not available under any circumstance, ever. Well, you know what I’m gonna say now. Let’s have a Holiday. Blown wide open. Prior to the rising I, prior to all of that mentation, redundant, pointless, mentalizing, but prior to that, here and now, I am, consciously knowing myself. ««»» So what is needed once we recognize this? Is to have some discrimination or discernment, to know what’s going on here. To be able to recognize when I begin rising as ego and attachment to thinking and all of that. ««»» And in the moment when we notice that, what is that there that’s arising? It’s obviously a separative experience with an entire world attached to it. Feelings, emotions, ideas, opinions, preferences. Past, future, me this and me that and me everything else, that rising I. So our work is to discern as quickly as possible when that begins to happen. ««»» Maybe it happens right away, or maybe it doesn’t happen for a few minutes, or maybe it doesn’t happen for half a day. Well, what to do? When you do notice that you’re arising as the separative I, in that moment of noticing itself, again, have a Holiday. ««»» And be what you are prior to that arising, that movement. ««»» And this comes back to my question at the beginning. What do you want? This is not a judgment at all. If you want freedom, if you want blown wide open, if you want present moment consciously aware being, that’s it. That’s what you have. And it never goes anywhere, so you don’t have to get it or attain it. It’s always here. It’s always here. Never not. But if those thoughts are compelling and we follow along, then it can be said, in a way, in that moment, that that’s what we want. We want to follow along with those thoughts. It’s not a conscious desire or something like that. But clearly, if we start following that thought stream, then for whatever reason, it’s very interesting, very compelling, very infatuating. And obviously, we want to go along for that ride. ««»» And there are so many things to be interested in there, isn’t there? And again, I’m not speaking about the things of your life, your family and your work and your art or whatever. I’m talking about the pointless redundancy of mentation that is endlessly looping in the head that serves no benefit whatsoever. ««»» And yet seems so fascinating. It’s true. ««»» Just notice on holiday, try to notice when the movement of the rising I begins. What is that? What is that? What is that? You know what it is. And in that moment, come to the root of that and just be there instead, the root, the source of that, which is who I am. And you begin to really see that movement in stark vision, really. You really can see that happening. ««»» And then you clearly get to see the option. Of living in your timeless, essential being that needs no thought, concept, anything other than itself, I knowing myself, purely subjective knowing. Between that and the endless stream of redundant and pointless mentating that seems to create an I, that feels like an I, that appears for all intents and purposes like an I, like that’s who I am. You need to see also, and this is key and important, that that phantom appearing I that claims to be who I am is not what I am in essence. You have to recognize that movement as not what I actually am in essence, but what is appearing as me in a very ephemeral, temporal way, but is actually not me. It’s only thought, a shadow. ««»» And all is good, really. There’s nothing to judge at all. I don’t judge. Whatever it is, you know. All of these movements, even those movements towards the rising I, there’s no fault or anything like that. Nothing like that at all. We just notice, that’s all. Simple. Just notice. Just be cognizant of what’s going on with you, that’s all. And then you start to see, what do I want? Because if I want freedom, here it is. I can have it. Well, I have nothing to speak about today, so let’s just see. We’ll just be here openly knowing, prior to the arising of the rising I. ««»» And just be here for a moment. ««»» They say silence is the highest teaching. And that’s true. What does silence mean? It means being as you are prior to the rising I. It doesn’t mean the absence of sounds or anything like that. ««»» And when you’re like this, you know yourself very clearly. Not as an object with name or form or anything like that, which is all fine, of course, but you know yourself purely, directly. Pure being, pure knowing. ««»» And purely subjective also. This is the knowing that knows itself. I know that I am. I know myself. Nothing else is required. Nothing. ««»» Knowing myself as anything else requires an object, thoughts, description, name, form, and many other things as well. And so that can’t be direct. That’s not directly knowing who I am. ««»» But this silence that we’re speaking about now, which is prior to the rising I, ««»» which requires nothing other than itself to be known? ««»» Which is the end of all seeking? ««»» Which is the end of all philosophizing? ««»» Which is the end of all understanding? ««»» Which is the end of the one who needs any of those things? ««»» It’s only the rising I that needs seeking, philosophy, understanding. You, silence, need none of that, do you? To know and to be free. ««»» So yes, in this way, silence is the highest teaching because silence is the teaching itself. Silence is the goal itself. Silence is the means or the way itself. Silence is your essential being. And it’s the answer. ««»» The highest teaching is yourself, silence. It’s already attained. ««»» It’s good to be with you and I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. Good morning, everyone. Let’s look a little bit more today into the phantom I. We have an idea that there is something called ego that actually exists. And that it’s here constantly, permanently and that it’s a foe that needs to be dealt with in some way or transcended or killed, something like that. So ego really just means I am separate. Ego means I am a discrete being separated from everything else. Unique. Living within the world outside. Is that really what it is though? Is that really what’s going on? Is that really a solidified thing? Well, let’s find out a little bit. So for a moment, without attending to this, or without attending to that, or without attending to anything at all, simply by attending to your own being, purely subjective knowing, I know that I am. ««»» This eternal being, which as we saw yesterday, is always the case. Eternal means always is, here whenever I care to have a look or notice. ««»» And from this pure being arises the idea or sense that I am here separate. We’ll look at it and see what that is. When the feeling I is there, and of course, often accompanied by thoughts about myself, you know, thoughts that are self-referencing, which by self-referencing means to do with this body and this life experience. When that separative I am sense is there, it seems very, you know, real in the moment, doesn’t it? Convincing. ««»» But what happens when you stop for a moment and look to see where it is? Really, just take a moment now and look and see where is that I? ««»» As soon as you look, it vanishes. ««»» As soon as you look for I, it can’t be found. Because the looking itself means you’ve come back into a Holiday, the position of knowing. And when you try to find that I, where is it? ««»» It only appears to be there when I am wrapped up within it believing that self-reflexive story as who I am. In that moment, when there is no clear light of knowing, it seems to be real. And for all intents and purposes, it actually is because we act from that. But is it actually real? Just take a step back, pure being knowing, the source, the root of all of it, what I am, what I actually am eternally, and then look and see if you find that I. ««»» You don’t. What you find are some objects, like sensations of the body. But look around the body. Where is the eyes? Somewhere in the body. Is it inside the head look? Is that where I is? Inside the chest, maybe? Is that where I am? Inside, wherever you’re feeling a sensation at any given moment, is that where I am? Where am I in there? What happens when you look is that that limited belief or sense of I vanishes in favor of the eternal, timeless, infinite, limitless, pure being, purely subjective, the light that knows itself I. ««»» Let’s see that again. From pure being knowing your timeless eternal self, look for that I. Is it somewhere in the body. ««»» When you look, it vanishes in favor of blown wide open, pure knowing being, limitless, timeless, eternal. What I am. ««»» No need to wait for the future, next week or 10 years from now when the so-called I am is going to vanish or be killed or be transcended. That’s just more seeking and waiting. That’s more egoic movement. When are you gonna be free? Well, not in the future. You’re gonna be free now. Only. That’s the only possibility. So when is the so-called I going to vanish? In 20 years? No. It’s going to vanish now when it’s recognized to actually not exist as a discrete, solid object. So again, look for the I. And find that you are blown wide open. I ««»» It’s good to be with you. I’ll be back again tomorrow. Peace. JOIN THE WEEKEND MINI INTENSIVE THE UNBOUND SPACE OF PURE BEING - August 22 - 23 Salvadore Poe - Liberation IS is a reader-supported publication.
