In this episode, we delve into the story of Nina Lucas, one of Corrie’s most distinctive characters of recent years, who has now departed the cobbles for pastures new in Whitby. We look back over Nina’s six and a half years in Weatherfield and reflect on her biggest storylines, most notably the powerful 2021 hate crime story, which for a time saw her firmly established as one of the show’s leading ladies. From her wonderful bond with Uncle Roy (or should that be Roymond?) to her on-off relationship with Asha, her romance with Seb, her brief foray into fashion design and everything in between, this deep dive covers the lot. So if you’re as much of a Nina fan as we are, hopefully this episode will bring back plenty of great memories from her time on the Street!

After that, we ponder Martin’s question about whether Corrie should ever recast a character when an actor decides to leave. It’s something UK soaps rarely do, yet across the pond it’s common practice - so why the difference? In our latest Resident Review, we take a look behind the doors of Number 1 Coronation Street, the home of the Barlows and the McDonalds. With Cassie having just left the Street for pastures unknown, we've been left with a bit of a turning point for the remaining residents - but what should Corrie do to try and leave the characters feeling fresh? To be honest, we're not too sure the characters of Steve, Tracy, Amy and Ken gel well together as a family group - despite enjoying all of the characters in their own way individually! - so it was fun to chat over what could potentially breathe a bit of new life into Number 1. For this week’s bonus podcast, we take a look back on Cassie Plummer’s three years on the cobbles, chronicling her dalliances with drugs, family fall-outs and snuggles and snogs with Steve McDonald. We ponder whether Corrie did the right thing rewriting Tyrone’s family history to bring the Plummers into the show, and consider whether leaving Cassie’s fate shrouded in mystery was the right way to bring her time on the cobbles to a close. Love Cassie or loathe her, it’s impossible to deny the charisma Claire Sweeney brought to the role, and we had a lot of fun revisiting some of her most memorable moments in this discussion. Enjoy!

We’ve got a busy couple of days coming up this weekend, which means we’re releasing Episode #742 of the podcast slightly earlier than usual! This one covers the Corrie episodes shown between Monday and Thursday (#11,903 – #11,906), so – and we know this is a bit of a big ask – if you happen to have a spare three and a half hours before Friday’s visit to Weatherfield, do give it a listen! The controversial Betsy and Dylan saga continued this week, with opinions still sharply divided over whether he should be punished for his part in causing her stroke – at least among their friends and family! We couldn’t help but love watching Kit duck and dive as he tried to find a way to get her off the hook and place the target squarely on Gary’s back, while Maria’s dogged pursuit of the truth about what her husband has been hiding has been incredibly entertaining too! Starting out as one of Corrie’s most terribly neglectful mothers, Bernie has grown into a brilliantly well-rounded character, supporting her family through money woes, maladies and marital dramas - all brought to life by the wonderfully charismatic Jane Hazlegrove. Whether she’s selling Gemma’s used pregnancy tests online, blasting her son’s ashes into space or coming face to face with her doppelgänger Fern, it’s often impossible to predict exactly what Bernie is going to do next - and we love her for it!

On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the goings on in Corrie between the 13th and the 17th July (Episodes #11,898 - #11,902). Well this was quite the week to be a Corrie fan, wasn't it? If you're on social media, it will have been almost impossible to escape discussion of the shocking new story centred around Betsy and Dylan this week, which has already become one of Coronation Street's most controversial yet. You won't be surprised to hear that sexual strangulation isn't exactly the sort of topic we were expecting to be discussing when we first started the podcast fourteen years ago, and it's certainly not something we're comfortable talking about either, but far be it from us to back down from a challenge - or sugarcoat our opinions either! Some of you will no doubt be nodding your heads along with what we say in this episode and others will totally disagree, but we hope it gives you something to think about at least! And Betsy's stroke wasn't the only massive twist this week either: we never expected Sarah's confession to Kit to come quite so soon - and the aftermath had us on the edge of our seats too... On this week's Conversation Street, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown between the 6th and the 10th July (Episodes #11,893 - #11,897). Just a short episode of the podcast this week - by our standards at least - as we're up in Manchester for the Walk For Webster this weekend, we've had a bit of a busy day and we're absolutely knackered! Fortunately, there wasn't too much in the way of massive story twists or revelations to keep us talking in today's episode, although we do delve relatively deeply into Christina's admission that she has a spending addiction - to be honest, we're just pleased she hasn't been up to anything irredeemably sneaky! Also this week, Abi discovers she's got a bit of a mould issue at her flat that nearly has fatal consequences for Alfie, Will tries to adjust to life after Megan, and Tyrone comes face to face with his long-lost father!

It's Resident Review time again, and this week, we're moving down one house in the terrace and looking at Number 5 Coronation Street! Like Number 3, The Winter-Brown interior hasn't been seen on screen at all so far in 2026, but that hasn't stopped us from sharing our thoughts on the family - how they've fared in terms of storylines over the past few years and what direction we'd like to see them go in future. Are the quads nearly reaching the stage where they'll be able to be used more, and what about Joseph, who'd been very much absent recently but is actually only a little younger than Sam! And is it possible for Gemma and Chesney to have a story that isn't based on them not having any money? Tune in to hear our thoughts!

This episode of the podcast covers the action in Weatherfield between the 30th June and the 3rd July (Episodes #11,888 - 11,892). The lion's share of the screen time was taken up by the drama surrounding Megan's trial this week, so what was our verdict on how it went down? On the whole, it was pretty enjoyable, though we can't deny we would have preferred a bit more in the way of evidence and surprise twists - Will's initial testimony that there was no relationship between him and Megan was certainly a shock, but once that was over, we couldn't help but feel most of the rest of the trial played it a bit safe for our liking. Away from the courtroom, Sam's turning corner in his recovery, but will Nick and Leanne's actions threaten to derail it? Meanwhile, things are looking up on the romance front for Asha, Sarah and Jodie get into a stalemate situation, and Ruby and Hope are brewing a surprise for Tyrone. In The Kabin, we remember Lovely Gay Ted as news of actor Michael Byrne's death broke this week, and we take a look at Corrie's nominations in the Inside Soap Awards. That's followed by the feedback section, where we hear more of your thoughts on the identity of Theo's killer plus your initial reactions to Megan's trial. We’ve reached the halfway point of 2026, and you know what that means – it’s time for Coronation Street’s mid-year review! Corrie had some big promises to live up to going into the year, with a flash-forward murder mystery and, of course, its much-hyped crossover with Emmerdale. In this episode of the podcast, we ask whether the show has lived up to its own hype and whether both events have generated enough compelling storylines of their own.
