Hello and welcome to the F.A.L.L.O.U.T. Podcast! Hexen Definitive vs The Past. Crop Dust vsDisney's Dream Debased The FALL SHOWDOWN rolls on into Round 4, with Al B, DB and B facing two more strange and potentially dangerous encounters. First up, old-old-days Hexen Definitive goes head-to-head with a mid-period woozy gem, The Past. Then it's the troggs sampling oopathon of Crop Dust versus pre post theme park W&F cog of Disney's Dream Debased — a genuine battle of the Fall's more... questionable corners. Hello and welcome to the B.E.E.F.O.U.T. Podcast! This time Al B and DB take on the final stretch of the Captain Beefheart story, ranking Doc at the Radar Station and Ice Cream for Crow — the two extraordinary albums that bookend the Captain's final musical period. Doc at the Radar Station is Beefheart sounding absolutely furious and completely alive: abrasive, weird, powerful and somehow still full of brilliant tunes. Ice Cream for Crow, recorded two years later with an almost entirely new Magic Band, takes things somewhere stranger and more spacious — a final burst of invention before Don Van Vliet sailed off into the desert and left music behind for painting. So which album wins? Which songs have aged like fine wine, which sound like they were recorded on another planet, and where does the Captain's final period sit in the B.E.E.F.O.U.T. rankings? In case yer internet machine isn't working, here's a few of the tracks we're looking at...Hot Head, Ashtray Heart, Run Paint Run Run, Sue Egypt, Dirty Blue Gene, Sheriff of Hong Kong, Telephone, Flavor Bud Living, Ice Cream for Crow, The Host the Ghost the Most Holy-O, Semi-Multicoloured Caucasian, Hey Garland I Dig Your Tweed Coat..etc, etc etc!! Hello and welcome to the F.A.L.L.O.U.T. Podcast! This week, Al B, DB and friend of facts Dannyno descend into Dave Simpson's excellent book The Fallen. What starts as a simple look at former Fall members quickly mutates into a labyrinth of ex-members, pre-Fall bands, post-Fall bands, forgotten projects, bizarre career turns and unlikely reunions. Along the way we bump into Karen Leatham, Eric the Ferret and the manager of The Chemical Brothers, plus dozens more familiar—and not so familiar—characters. Armed with Simpson's research, fading memories and misplaced confidence, we attempt to map one of the most bewildering family trees in rock history. We confidently announced this would be a short episode... so naturally, two hours later, we're only halfway through. Expect stories from the book, side roads, forgotten bands, dubious detective work, no investigative instinct whatsoever, plenty of hot takes, and the usual mixture of facts, speculation and affectionate nonsense. Enjoy Part 1, and join us at some indistinct point in the distant future for Part 2. Now... where did I leave that Karl Burns? Cash for votes! Become a patron and help shape future episodes. Welcome to N.O.T.F.A.L.L.—the occasional side project from the F.A.L.L.O.U.T. Podcast, where Al B and DB give Mark E. Smith the week off and play a pile of completely unrelated records that have somehow lodged themselves in their heads. This time it's U.S. & U.K.!! A transatlantic rummage through garage rock, punk, noise, outsider pop, post-hardcore, blues trash, Peel Session oddities and anything else that sounds like it should've been played in a leaking social club with a broken PA. Featuring music from Big Stick, Mazey Fade, Unsane, Sonic Youth, Frank Sidebottom, The Drags, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Oblivians, Country Teasers... and about a billion others we've completely forgotten until five minutes after we stopped recording. No tournament. No rankings. No spreadsheets. Just two idiots recommending records they love and hoping you'll discover something brilliant. If you've ever wondered what Al B and DB are listening to when they're not obsessing over The Fall... this is it. Hello and welcome to the B.E.E.F.O.U.T. Podcast! This week, Al B and DB tackle one of the most fascinating "what ifs" in Captain Beefheart history, ranking every track from both versions of Bat Chain Puller—the legendary "lost" 1976 album, finally released in 2012—and Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller), the reworked album that emerged in 1978. Joining us is friend of the show Max, who's here to right wrongs, spill truths and, quite possibly, make everything even more complicated. How different are the two albums? Which songs improved? Which lost a little magic? And which versions come out on top when the dust settles? In case your internet machine isn't working, here's the tracks we're looking at... Floppy Boot Stomp, Tropical Hot Dog Night, Ice Rose, Harry Irene, You Know You’re a Man, Bat Chain Puller, When I See Mommy, I Feel Like a Mummy, Owed T’Alex, Candle Mambo, Love Lies, Suction Prints, Apes-Ma, Seam Crooked Sam, Brick Bats, Odd Jobs, Hobo-ism, 81 Poop Hatch, A Carrot is as Close as a Rabbit Gets, Flavor Bud Living, Human totem pole As always, expect strong opinions, deep dives, baffling Beefheart tangents and rankings that will almost certainly upset somebody. Hello and welcome to the F.A.L.L.O.U.T. Podcast! The tournament takes a detour into the Last Chance Saloon, where Al B and DB revisit the song that went out in Round 2 to bring a select few back in from the cold. Suffice to say, some questionable decision-making has somehow allowed a few absolute gems to sneak through to the next round... while others have been unceremoniously shown the door. Who was robbed? Who got lucky? And what does this say about the voting public? Support the podcast on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/FALLOUTPODCAST238 Cash for votes! T'neet on't' B.E.E.F.O.U.T. Podcast! This week, Al B and Db tackle what many consider the nadir of Captain Beefheart's career. In case your internet machine isn't working, here's the tracks we're looking at... Noel's Chemical Effluence vs Black Roof !!! Hit The North vs Taurig !!! The Walker, The host, DB & Stu descend once more into the ruins... T'neet the lads shovel through another mound of glorious nonsense as Noel's Chemical Effluence squares up against Black Roof, while Hit The North takes on Taurig in a battle that may or may not permanently alter the chemical balance of the North West. Featuring the usual reckless diversions, dubious scholarship, and several opinions that should probably have remained indoors. Winner stays on, loser gets covered in effluence. T'neet! B, DB and Al take a deep dive into Captain Beefheart's The Spotlight Kid and Clear Spot—two albums that still split opinion among fans. Coming after the wild, angular chaos of Trout Mask Replica and Lick My Decals Off, Baby, Beefheart dialled back some of the avant-garde madness in favour of heavier grooves, tighter songs and a slightly more approachable sound. For some, that made these records a disappointment. For others, it was a beautiful left turn that produced some of the finest music he ever recorded. The lads rank every song from both albums: I'm Gonna Booglarize You Baby, White Jam, Blabber 'n Smoke, When It Blows Its Stacks, Alice in Blunderland, The Spotlight Kid, Click Clack, Grow Fins, There Ain't No Santa Claus on the Evenin' Stage, Glider, Low Yo Yo Stuff, Nowadays a Woman's Gotta Hit a Man, Too Much Time, Circumstances, My Head Is My Only House Unless It Rains, Sun Zoom Spark, Clear Spot, Crazy Little Thing, Long Neck Bottles, Her Eyes Are a Blue Million Miles, Big Eyed Beans from Venus and Golden Birdies. Expect strong opinions, a few surprises, plenty of praise for the Magic Band, and the usual disagreements as they try to put 22 great songs into some kind of order. 🎙️🐟 Check out our Fall podcast, Fallout: Fallout Podcast And if you'd like to support the show, get involved in Cash for Votes, vote on future episodes and access bonus content, visit our Patreon: Fallout Podcast Patreon

T'neet. The genius follow-up to Trout Mask Replica that is "Lick My Decals Off, Baby." Is it a mature Don, or a man all at sea? All of its tracks are pored over, discussed, and ranked alongside those from the somewhat cash-in Mirror Man Sessions which, while technically a fifth LP, was a world away from where Don and the Magic Band were at the time. Join DB, AL, and Brendan as they decide which tracks from Decals and Mirror Man deserve to make it into the final 32 head-to-head showdown, all in an effort to declare, once and for all: What is the greatest Beefheart track of all time?
