The Bushwackers were formed in 1971 and are still going strong, with lively performances all around the country. Having worked with over 100 musicians, released 27 albums of music and 6 books, won 3 CMAA Golden Guitar Awards and been inducted into The Australasian Country Music Roll Of Renown, Dobe and Roger have a lot to unpack.

    I Am Australian is an iconic Australian song which was co-written by Dobe Newton and Bruce Woodley. Dobe and Roger talk about how the song was written and how it came to be the iconic piece of music beloved by many Australians. It's been translated into several indigenous languages and remains one of the great songs in our culture. We talk about how we appeared on The Voice TV show and how that all came abouit and went down.     The Bushwackers, Dobe Newton and Roger Corbett discuss the song 'The Ballad of 1891'. It is a very important part of The Bushwackers' stage show but holds a significant place in Folk music history too. It tells of the great shearers' strike of 1891, which ended being broken up at gunpoint by state troopers and put 14 men in jail for their part in this union struggle. You can find various versions of this great song on the albums 'Faces in the Street' and The Bushwackers Australian Songbook Vol 3. It's also on Band camp on the 'Jubilee' Album which has a killer guitar solo by Tommy Emmanuel and you can find this on our Bandcamp page.
