The Mechadova Engine

Published by Lumi Oakes

  • Fiction
  • Science fiction

The Mechadova Engine is a queer steampunk audio drama. The story follows Log, who has spent their entire life, as far as they can remember, alone inside a single library train carriage in the sky. Their only knowledge of the outside world is limited to books from a long time ago on earth. Log has never thought to question their existence or the world outside, until one day their carriage stops. Here, they meet Tinker, a member of a resistance group, who turns their world upside down. It's a story about meaningless structures, the power of community, and how knowledge is preserved and retold. 1. Presenting: Dustwalker from The Mechadova Engine, opens in a new tab

    Mar 6, 20261 min

While our kickstarter is running, we figured we'd share some other shows we love! DUSTWALKER is a full-cast science-fantasy audio drama about learned love, lost (and found) family, and the fight to stay alive under an authoritarian regime. Featuring two transgender leads, their fragile father-daughter relationship, and their shared hatred of the Calarian Church. Kove, a teenage mercenary, and Arius, a deceptively powerful politician, form an uneasy alliance to bring down the leader of an authoritarian theocracy. Dustwalker is a great new show currently releasing its first season wherever you get your podcasts. It features a diverse cast of characters, talented voice actors, and is created by Bren McQuillan. It is absolutely worth a listen! Listen to the show wherever you get your podcasts ! More information at: https://linktr.ee/dustwalkerpod Music: The Mirror by Everything. Hosted on Acast. 2. Presenting: MERCY from The Mechadova Engine, opens in a new tab

    Mar 4, 202637 min

While our kickstarter is running, we figured we'd share some other shows we love! MERCY: A Queer Eldritch Western follows Wayne Sawyer, a grizzled jack-of-all-trades, who helps the folk of Mercy for a mere pittance. When he meets the bizarre and enigmatic academic, Doctor Daisy Gray, they are both thrust into dangers beyond human comprehension. Strange Kind Studios never fails to deliver on quality. Sound design, writing, and acting comes together beautifully, and queer eldritch western is just about the best combination of words in the entire world, in my personal opinion. Listen to the show wherever you get your podcasts ! 3. Presenting: Apocalypse Radio from The Mechadova Engine, opens in a new tab

    Mar 2, 20261 min

While our kickstarter is running, we figured we'd share some other shows we love! Apocalypse Radio is a short episodic audio drama about a person running a radio station in the zombie apocalypse while they wait for the military to evacuate them to the moon. The station runner (Mason) helps a caller (Will) to navigate to the nearest survivor camp before the evacuation happens, falling in love along the way. Season 1 of 3 is out now, and can be listened to on its own without the other seasons. Season 2 is out now. Season 3 is releasing now. Apocalypse Radio is compelling micro-fiction with a lighthearted tone, exploring themes of loyalty, laughter, and love in the zombie apocalypse. This is their season 3 trailer. 4. Presenting: Hamuel Burger and the American Dream from The Mechadova Engine, opens in a new tab

While our kickstarter is running, we figured we'd share some other shows we love! Hamuel Burger and the American Dream is an absolutely hilarious show full of vibrant characters and a story that is extremely difficult to describe. This show never fails to baffle me and make me (Lumi Oakes) laugh, and it is absolutely worth a listen. In addition it features a few cast members you may recognize from this show! 5. Presenting: Vigil from The Mechadova Engine, opens in a new tab

    Feb 26, 202620 min

While our kickstarter is running, we figured we'd share some other shows we love! Set in a future similar to our present, Vigil takes place in a world where superhero conglomerates have taken charge of the health and safety of the general population. The podcast starts when investigative journalist, Maria Kennedy, sets out to do a special report on the life and career of recently deceased support hero, Vigil. Maria gets more than what she bargained for when her investigation leads her to uncover some of the super heroic industry’s darkest secrets. On a personal level , as Lumi, Vigil is another show I've personally loved listening to so far. I absolutely adore its initial in-universe framing device, and Vigil is an instantly likeable character you want to learn more about. It puts a unique spin on the superhero world, while playing with recognizable tropes I adore. In addition it has been created by the talented Adam Qutaishat, who you may encounter in The Mechadova Engine. Shownotes: Vigil Part 1: Lush Part 1 was directed, edited, and scored by Adam Qutaishat. It was written and performed by Hayley San Fillippo as Maria Kennedy, Adam Qutaishat as Vigil, Dennis Lewis as Urgent, and Cereyna Bouganeau as the Unnamed Hero, with Voice Over by Shayne Patrick. Marketing by Laila Sahir. Episode Transcript (May Contain Spoilers) Vigil is a superhero, audio fiction thriller from Adam Qutaishat (Button Podcasts). 6. Presenting: Sidequesting from The Mechadova Engine, opens in a new tab

    Feb 24, 202617 min

While our kickstarter is running, we figured we'd share some other shows we love! Sidequesting is about Rion, a budding adventurer who’s willing to help out just about anyone, as long as they’re not being asked to deal with the scary wizard everyone keeps talking about. Each episode follows a new sidequest of Rion’s as they travel from town to town, meeting new people and doing new things. It pulls from classic tropes across fantasy stories, but subverts them. It’s a fun, light-hearted, and exciting adventure. On a personal level, Sidequesting is one of the most comforting podcasts that I, Lumi Oakes, have ever listened to. It is incredibly sweet, and captures a particular nostalgic feeling that I rarely experience. I absolutely recommend it if you're looking for some comforting fantasy, with wonderful characters and a vibrant world. You can listen to episodes of Sidequesting in any order. This is episode 11, Honor Among Thieves, where Rion gets a crash course in heisting.
