The Psych Med Sanctuary

Published by Emma

  • Health & fitness
  • Mental health

A podcast here to support and guide those going through psychiatric medication withdrawal and harm. For people who are tapering their psych meds and doing ok but experiencing some side effects and emotional challenges. It covers everything from the mild side of coming of your medication to the severe side where people are struggling to function. By Psych med I mean, Antidepressants, Antipsychotics and benzodiazepines. There is little to no awareness of this in the medical system and people are left lost, fending for themselves in a very scary time. To Help, Validate & Support. Emma x

    Sep 6, 20261 hr 13 min

  2. Losing and finding creativity in Benzo Withdrawal: Artist Loomis Henry tells his story, which includes recovery from The Psych Med Sanctuary, opens in a new tab

    Jun 7, 20261 hr 24 min

A story of an artist going through harm from psych medications, his experience, and his journey with his creativity. Loomis has healed now and has no symptoms, it's a story to inspire and give hope to those out there going through this. Love the Psych Med Sanctuary team.

  3. Behind closed doors: Exposing Abuse In Psych Wards, Historical & Current from The Psych Med Sanctuary, opens in a new tab

    Apr 19, 202630 min

Sharing stories through history about abuse in psych wards / mental asylums. Showing a clear pattern, an echo through time, where the vulnerable get taken advantage of, as though it is a tale as old as time. I share my experience having ended up in 3 psych wards due to a severe benzo withdrawal that led to antidepressant and antipsychotic withdrawal, and many years tapering off these medications slowly so I could remain functional. I was non functional and harmed by the medication itself. And my journey all began with going into a Drs office with tinnitus. It is not here to scare those currently going through antidepressant withdrawal, benzodiazepine withdrawal or antipsychotic withdrawal. As this really does not need to be your story. And to be mindful of those still going through it to be sensitive to perhaps not watch this episode. However for those who have experienced this story, perhaps this will give you some validation in an experience that is very commonly dismissed or disbelieved. This episode is to bring awareness to a hidden corner of our world and to give validation to those who have walked this treacherous path. Love Emma

  4. Interview with Angie Peacock, talking all things on Psychiatric Medication harm & withdrawal and mental health from The Psych Med Sanctuary, opens in a new tab

    Mar 15, 202647 min

Talking all things psych med harm and withdrawal, having found Angie online years ago whilst I was in benzo withdrawal, Angie helped me connect the dots. This is why these conversations are soo important. I chose to make this one extra colourful as Angie is a true Unicorn in my eyes. Talking about mental health, depression, anxiety, insomnia, antidepressants, benzodiazepines, antipsychotics and the journey of psychiatry. Love! Emma

  5. The Art Of Tapering Antidepressants, Antipsychotics & Benzodiazepines from The Psych Med Sanctuary, opens in a new tab

    Feb 15, 202635 min

The Art of Tapering benzodiazepines, antidepressants, antipsychotics. Psychiatric medication . This is not medical advice of clinical support. I am sharing lived experience from having to learn how to taper off 3 medications after getting harmed by one. I have followed people I trust who have also gone through this, and over these years been through all the pit falls, learnt the hard way, determine to heal and be free I press on. To release shame around this and to shine a light on how important it is for some people to taper like this. It is in fact life saving. I know some can take these medications no problem and stop taking them no problem, however there is also people who really struggle with adverse reactions and find it really hard coming off. With the slow tapering, with water or weighing on scales, people can get off safely. If I had not had the support of my family friend Hans who had the same experience with two antidepressants I honestly don't know if I would be here. Love Emma Produced by Harry Duns

  6. Love and Dating in Psych Med Withdrawal from The Psych Med Sanctuary, opens in a new tab

    Feb 8, 20261 hr 3 min

A personal sharing of what it’s been like tapering psych medication for the last 4 years such as Antidepressants, Antipsychotics and Benzodiazepines. Discussing how it impacts love and dating, spoken from a females perspective. I’ve tried to cover all topics that come up a lot and what I hear a lot of people worry about. I’ve also had quite a few woman asking for a podcast like this, so I decided to make one. I’m aware we are all on our different paths with this, some more harmed than others, and really it’s to speak to hope, even if you are in a bad place and your really harmed and it’s a long time until you feel like you could go on a date. It’s to give that encouragement that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. As love is an important part of life. We can of course love ourselves, and all that lingo, but it’s also part of our human life to at times be in relationships. I’m not imparting medical advice on my channel, I am sharing lived experience. With the intention of giving hope to those left with no support. Much love Emma and Wicket xx Podcast produced and filmed by Harry Duns

  7. Emma's story of recovery from psychiatric medication harm & withdrawal, hell and back from The Psych Med Sanctuary, opens in a new tab

    Feb 1, 20261 hr 8 min

Discussing harm from Antidepressants, Benzodiazepines and Antipsychotics. This episode discusses my 4/5 year journey of recovery, from ending up being wrongly prescribed and wrongly diagnosed and plugged with so much medication I became totally non functional. To then finding others who had gone through the same, and miraculously making it through to tell the tale, currently on my last medication. Almost free! This is here to bring awareness to a very hidden corner of our world, where many are left suffering, and end up getting all the wrong guidance along the way! Like me! To encourage those going through it that it doesn't have to mean the end. Love Emma and Wicket
