The Dynasty Effect

Long before national rankings, super tournaments and powerhouse programs became the norm, Gary Sorace was helping lay the foundation for modern Ohio wrestling. A 1970 Ohio State Champion from Maple Heights, Cleveland State wrestler, longtime coach and one of the most influential assistants in St. Edward wrestling history, Sorace joins The Dynasty Effect Podcast to share stories spanning more than five decades in the sport. Gary explains how a chance meeting with legendary Coach Howard Ferguson changed his life, eventually leading him to help build the early St. Edward dynasty. He reveals how Ferguson spent hours filling legal pads with notes, how the famous technique charts hanging in the St. Edward wrestling room were created, and how the training methods from Maple Heights became the blueprint for one of the greatest programs in America. Lance Palmer is one of the most accomplished wrestlers to ever come out of Ohio. A four time Ohio State Champion for St. Edward High School, Palmer became the first wrestler in school history to win four state titles and one of the most dominant wrestlers the state has ever produced. His success continued at Ohio State University where he became a Big Ten Champion, four time NCAA All-American, and NCAA finalist. After college, Palmer transitioned into professional fighting and quickly became one of the top featherweights in the sport. He captured two World Series of Fighting titles and later won two Professional Fighters League championships, building a career as one of the most successful wrestlers to cross over into MMA.
