Shawn Buckley opens the fourth day of the NHPPA’s cross-Canada Health Charter Tour by clearly explaining why the tour exists and what the proposed Charter of Health Freedom would accomplish. He describes how the tour brings awareness to Parliament, gathers one of the largest paper petitions in Canadian history, and challenges a health system that criminalizes natural remedies, ignores lived patient outcomes, and suppresses vital nutrition. Buckley explains how the Charter would protect fundamental health rights, mandate a focus on real health outcomes, establish legal presumptions favoring patient experience, and require government to protect and promote access to vital nutrients and natural remedies.

  11. Health on the Hill | Health Canada Moves to Outlaw Compounding from The NHPPA Podcast, opens in a new tab

    Aug 5, 20267 min

Many practitioners still compound remedies for individual patients. Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, herbalists, homeopaths, and naturopaths have long mixed natural ingredients to meet a patient’s specific needs. The Natural Health Product Regulations were written to protect this practice. Parliament was clear: Health Canada does not regulate compounding by health care practitioners. Yet Health Canada has now published a new policy designed to shut most compounding down. The policy invents conditions that do not exist in the law. Practitioners would be blocked if a similar licensed product is already on the market. Strict labelling, testing, and “palatable flavoured” requirements would be forced on them. Single-herb remedies would no longer qualify. Health Canada inspectors, who are not trained in medicine, would gain the power to second-guess clinical decisions and review patient files. None of these restrictions appears in the regulations. As a result, the policy is illegal. It also risks making compounded care uneconomic and unavailable for the Canadians who depend on it. NHPPA has already submitted formal comments opposing the policy . Shawn’s full analysis lays out exactly how Health Canada is overreaching and what is at stake for practitioners and patients.

  17. NHPPA Talk Forum | Sydney Ross Singer | May 2026 from The NHPPA Podcast, opens in a new tab

    Jul 23, 20261 hr 37 min

Medical anthropologist Sydney Ross Singer joins Shawn Buckley to examine how common cultural practices contribute to chronic illness. Drawing on his background in biochemistry, anthropology, and medical training, Singer introduces the concept of “culturogenic” diseases — conditions driven by lifestyle and cultural norms rather than genetics. In this eye-opening discussion, they explore the health impacts of tight clothing and bras on lymphatic drainage and breast health, the problems with sleeping flat, the effects of restrictive shoes and socks, and other everyday habits that impair circulation and immunity. Singer makes a powerful case for questioning practices that prioritize fashion and profit over human physiology. This episode challenges conventional medical thinking and offers practical steps for better health through informed lifestyle choices. 18. Shawn’s Opening Morning Statements Ottawa | Health Charter Tour Oct 25 2025 from The NHPPA Podcast, opens in a new tab

    Jul 2, 202640 min

An opening address by Shawn Buckley delivered during the final morning of the NHPPA Health Charter Tour in Ottawa. Shawn reflects on the journey of the cross-Canada tour and the significance of presenting the Charter of Health Freedom and the third-largest paper petition in Canadian history to Parliament later that day. He explains how widespread chronic illness is driven by a combination of toxic food supply, environmental exposure, and systemic malnutrition, and how Health Canada has presided over declining nutrient density while restricting access to effective supplementation through law. Shawn contrasts the allopathic, symptom-focused drug model with holistic healing traditions that seek to resolve underlying illness, sharing stories from tour participants who recovered from conditions such as Crohn’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis through nutrition and natural health approaches. He argues that chemical pharmaceutical drugs taken as directed represent a leading cause of death in Canada, and that censorship prevents Canadians from learning about safer, more effective alternatives. Throughout the opening, Shawn emphasizes personal responsibility, citizen engagement, and collective action, describing the Health Charter Tour as the beginning of a broader movement to restore truthful health information, protect access to natural health products, and establish rational health policy focused on wellness rather than disease management.
