Well....The Cardiff game was a cracker and we don't just mean the right hander Christian Bielik deservedly received. Welcome to the latest Play Up Podcast episode with host Scott Mclachlan who is joined by Phil Sandys and Adam Hatton. Pace and Power was on display at Fratton Park on Saturday as Pompey got their first home win, we discuss (and take cheeky credit) what worked well to get us the 3 points. We also ponder whether to donate to a Referees charity, Refsupport. Find out if we do or take the piss instead? We cover the off-pitch events which ended in a knockout decision against Christian Bieilk, and rightly we sincerely hope the lad invovled is being supported by PFC correctly. Looking ahead to playing one of our traditional rivals in Charlton on Saturday, can we do the double again this season? Could our dodgy tickers stand another 96th minute winner? Pop us in your ears and Enjoy!
With the very sad news of Alan Knights death on Tuesday the Podcast team remember The Legend's career and their personal stories of the man. All of us on the Play Up Podcast offer our condolences to Alan's family and friends and they are in our thoughts. We cover the Bristol and Derby defeats, it's fair to say that all of us are frustrated with both results and with John Mousinho. There are so many problems with Pompey's game at the moment and we try and cover them all and offer up some solutions. Has 4-2-3-1 had its day? Why do Pompey play so slowly? Why doesn't any player get to the by-line and cross? Listen and see if you agree with our answers. We look forward to Saturday and the game against Cardiff, where there will be a terrific send-off for Alan and the opportunity to reboot our stalling season. We hope you enjoy this weeks Pod. Play Up Pompey!
Welcome once again to this weeks edition of the Play Up Podcast with host Scott Mclachlan and with excellent contributions from Simon, Phil and Reece Pompey picked up 3 points on the road at the first attempt this season with a fine win against newly Promoted Lincoln City and with the help of "Young" Marlon Pack and Segecic's Hammer. Ryan Kavuma-McQueen became Pompeys youngest ever goalscorer and unlike Count Binface, Abu Kamara has finally resolved a long-running right wing problem in PO4. We look ahead, in trepidation, to the trip to Bristol City. What kind of Pompey will turn up this season? Hopefully one that tries at least. Also Pompey havn't beaten Derby in a long time, so it's about time we did next Tuesday at Fratton Park. If you're off to Victorious, have a great weekend and lets hope Pompey bring back 3 points from Ashton Gate. Play Up Pompey!
Welcome back to the Play Up Podcast with host Scott Mclachlan who is this week joined by Phil, Kim and Simon. Pompey kicked off the new season with a disappointing loss at home to QPR and we discuss it at length. Was it the uncommanding and uncommunicating defence? The massive hole in midfield left by General Histrionics? Or can we throw Colby Bishop under the bus for being a crap Captain? At least there were positives in the second half from the subs who came on, especially the 17 year old Ryan Kavuma-McQueen. We look ahead to Saturday and the trip to Lincoln, can Pompey get their season back on track with a win? Let's keep everything crossed, Play Up Pompey!
Yes, this is where the season really starts, not with the Moose Cup or whatever the League Cup is called these days. Join host Scott Mclachlan who is ably assisted by no less than five collaborators in this bumper Season Launching Pod. Phil, Kim, Simon, Reece and Adam all discuss what may or may not happen this season, who will go up and down and who they really want to do the Double over. We cover the West Ham game, but really, who cares? Phils Quiz is in honour of Abu Kamara and is about players having two spells at Pompey, can you guess who they are from their career? Then we preview QPR this weekend and whether Pompey can start with three points and maintain a top half place? It's a cracker, please enjoy!
Welcome again to the latest episode of the Play Up Podcast with host Scott Mclachlan and our European contributors, Adam and Simon. First up we get a flavour of the Darmstadt weekend and friendly, over a thousand Pompey fans made the trip and saw a decent run out between two good teams. We look forward to the first competitive game of the season, a first round League Cup game away at West Ham with 9000 tickets sold and it should be a typical Pompey away trip to the Smoke. Will Pompey progress to the second round? With West Ham in disarray it could be the perfect chance to capitalize in the Capital. Abu Kamara is on his way back! He may have already signed by the time you listen to the Pod but will he be any good? Is the right wing problem FINALLY solved? All this and more is discussed, we hope you enjoy!
Pop in your buds or grab some Beats and enjoy the first Pod of the 26-27 Pompey Season. We try out a new game, the Brain Darts quiz, with a completely unexpected result and we also look forward to the up-coming friendly in Germany at Darmstadt 98 which includes a detailed look at German Football culture and its successful financial model. Finally we have a hot-take on FIFA and it's "corruption in plain sight" attempt to further monetise future World Cups. We're excited for the new season and we hope you are too. Enjoy!
Is John Mousinho about to leave Pompey for Bristol City? Its looking likely but there is plenty to be optimistic about for next season with or without the Head Coach and his impossibly white trainers. In this final episode of the 25-26 season Scott, Phil and Reece look back on how the season panned out, what were the successes, failures and challenges with our season review. Choose your Goal of the Season from the 12 contenders on offer and take part in Phil's Quiz of the Season, Is your memory as terrible as Scott and Reece? Unlikely. We also conduct as Squad review, who's In and Out and who might we sell? Will we finally buy another Striker? Can we keep Murphy and Shaughnessy fit? We hope you've enjoyed our Pods this season, the plan is to go Weekly next season so keep an ear out in late July for our Pre-season kick-off. Have a great Summer and see you in July! Play Up Pompey!
