I'm Dr. Jeremy London, a board-certified cardiovascular surgeon in practice for over 25 years. In this episode I break down five landmark cardiovascular studies, the foundational research that did the heavy lifting to shape how we treat heart disease today. But this isn't just a history lesson. I walk through each study the same way a physician does: how the study was designed, what it got right, what it got wrong, and whether it held up over time. That framework is the real takeaway, because in an age of overwhelming health information, knowing how to evaluate a study is more valuable than memorizing any single result. We go from Framingham in 1948, which invented the very idea of a "risk factor," all the way to SPRINT in 2015, which changed the blood pressure number we all aim for. Along the way you'll see exactly how these studies stack on top of each other to answer the next question: Do risk factors exist? Which ones matter most? Is one of them actually causal? And how hard should we push when we treat them? Medical science isn't stone tablets. It's guidance, and it should be pressure-tested constantly. Strong beliefs, loosely held. He explains why ApoB predicts cardiovascular risk better than LDL-C, why insulin sensitivity is the through line connecting sugar, saturated fat, fiber, muscle, and body weight, and what to do when you've done everything right and your numbers still won't budge. After decades working in men's health, one thing is clear: most of what determines how long and how well men live comes down to understanding the body, knowing where the risks are, and acting on them early enough to make a difference. After 25 years and thousands of open-heart surgeries, one truth stands above everything: I can save your life, but I can't live it for you. The decisions that determine how long and how well you live happen daily, at home, not in my operating room. In this episode, cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Jeremy London shares the 11 most important lessons his career in medicine has taught him, the ones that weren't in the textbooks, that med school got wrong, or that science has completely overturned since he qualified. Most longevity conversations focus on two things: living longer (lifespan) and living healthier (healthspan). But there's a third pillar almost nobody talks about. In this video, cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Jeremy London introduces timespan, the science of how you experience the time you have. Why does a year at 50 feel shorter than a summer at 7? Why do we reach our deathbeds feeling like we "just blinked"? And what can we actually do about it? In this episode, Dr. London breaks down: The Proportional Theory of Time, the mathematical reason why time speeds up as you age (and why you've already lived half your "felt" life by 17 or 18) The neuroscience of episodic memory, how your brain decides what gets recorded in 4K vs. what gets skipped The Reminiscence Bump: Why ages 15–25 feel richest in memory, and how to recreate that density 3 levers to reclaim your time perception: Flow, Presence, and Purpose My Newsletter https://www.drjeremylondon.com/newsletter Thank you to our sponsors Function: www.functionhealth.com/london LMNT: www.drinklmnt.com/london My Social Media Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drjeremylondon/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@drjeremylondon Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drjeremylondonmd ** The information in this video is not intended nor implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Most people think healthy living means getting it perfect every day. After 25 years as a cardiovascular surgeon, I can tell you that mindset is exactly what's keeping people stuck. Real life doesn't pause for your health goals. Sick kids. Late mornings. A meal grabbed on the run - again. In this episode, I'm talking about something nobody in medicine wants to admit: the gap between what we tell patients to do and the life they actually have to live. Because here's what I've learned from the operating table - your health story isn't written in a single day. The ledger stays open. And every choice you make today, imperfect as it may be, is still a vote for the person you're becoming. This isn't about letting yourself off the hook. It's about staying engaged, staying attentive, and understanding that tomorrow is always another opportunity to cast a different vote. Most people think needing medication means they've failed. After 25 years as a cardiovascular surgeon, I think that mindset is putting lives at risk, including my own. In this episode, I'm stories I rarely talk about: a patient who did everything "right”, and the moment I ignored my own warning signs as a heart surgeon. Both of us had the same blind spot and it almost cost everything. The truth is lifestyle is powerful. But it's not everything. And refusing medication when your biology demands it isn't discipline...it's a dangerous gamble. *My Newsletter* https://www.drjeremylondon.com/newsletter *Thank you to our sponsors* Rorra : rorra.com/london Rho : rhonutrition.com/london *My Social Media* Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drjeremylondon/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@drjeremylondon Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drjeremylondonmd As a board-certified cardiovascular surgeon, I often discuss how important it is to address health concerns. This video highlights that taking medications is a strategic approach to risk reduction, not a sign of failure, especially when considering individual medical genetics. While lifestyle changes are powerful for overall health science, they don't always solve every issue, and sometimes medical education emphasizes the necessity of interventions. We must embrace all available tools in healthcare for optimal medlife. * The information in this video is not intended nor implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
