On September 13, 1992, 27-year-old Su Taraskiewicz left her overnight shift at Boston's Logan Airport to grab sandwiches for her crew and never made it home. The next day, her body was found in the trunk of her own car. As a ramp supervisor and one of the few women on a mostly male crew at Northwest Airlines, Su had spent months enduring a workplace that turned against her. There were taunts, sabotage, and threats she faced just for doing her job well. Eventually her mother uncovered something that reframed the case: a journal, where Su had documented the harassment page after page, naming the men who made her days a struggle. Since it opened in 1995, Denver International Airport has been the subject of some of the most enduring conspiracy theories in America. Built years behind schedule and wildly over budget, the airport is famous for its unsettling apocalyptic murals, a towering demonic horse statue with glowing red eyes, cryptic dedication plaques, and a sprawling network of underground tunnels. To believers, these details point to secret bunkers for the elite, headquarters for shadowy organizations, or something even stranger hidden beneath the runways. Officials insist the tunnels are mundane and the art is simply misunderstood, but the speculation has only grown over the decades, embraced even by the airport itself. In this episode of Conspiracy Theories, Cults, & Crimes, Vanessa Richardson explores the many theories surrounding Denver International Airport, the strange design choices that started it all, and the question of why one airport became a magnet for suspicion about hidden power and secret agendas. Dan Wozniak was a charming, talented actor in Southern California with big dreams and a wedding on the horizon, but his finances were falling apart and his taste for the spotlight far outpaced what his life could actually afford. Rather than face the truth, he began to lie, manipulate, and scheme, building a fantasy of the life he wanted on a foundation of deception. In the spring of 2010, that spiral of debt and delusion set the stage for an unthinkable crime. In Part 1 of Murder: True Crime Stories, host Carter Roy traces Wozniak's troubled path from aspiring theater star to desperate con man, the toxic relationships and mounting pressures that surrounded him, and the calculated plan that would soon leave two innocent people dead. What followed was a decade of investigation, an FBI takeover, grand jury battles, and arrests for murder and evidence tampering. But Crystal's body has never been found. And her family is still fighting for answers. During the Cold War, the CIA quietly turned modern art into a weapon. Convinced that America needed to prove its cultural superiority over the Soviet Union, the agency secretly promoted abstract expressionist painters like Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Willem de Kooning as symbols of American freedom. Through a front group called the Congress for Cultural Freedom and a network of fake foundations, the CIA funneled millions of dollars into touring exhibitions across Europe, partnering with the Museum of Modern Art, all without the artists ever knowing who was funding their success. The irony was staggering: many of the painters were anarchists and former communists, President Truman thought their work was garbage, and Congress called it un-American, yet the CIA bankrolled it anyway. In this episode of Conspiracy Theories, Cults, & Crimes, Vanessa Richardson examines the declassified operation that transformed paint splatters into propaganda, the strange alliance between spies and the art world, and the unsettling question of whether some of the most celebrated art of the 20th century rose on merit, or because a spy agency decided it was useful. Ivan Milat grew up in a volatile Sydney household surrounded by weapons, abuse, and fourteen siblings. By his teens, he was already hurting animals, and allegedly...people. After a series of robberies, a sexual assault, and a faked suicide, Milat walked free from every charge and used steady road work to move unseen through Australia's most isolated stretches of highway. This episode traces how years of escaping consequences shaped one of Australia's most terrifying serial killers. In 1922, six members of the same family were found murdered on their isolated farmstead in the Bavarian countryside, killed one by one with a pickaxe. In the days before their deaths, the family had noticed strange and frightening signs: footprints in the snow, footsteps in the attic, and the unshakable feeling that someone was watching them. But they never made it out alive, and their killer was never caught. In Part 1 of Murder: True Crime Stories, host Carter Roy introduces the family at the center of one of Europe's most haunting unsolved mysteries, the eerie warnings that preceded the massacre, and the quiet farm that became the scene of an unthinkable crime. On March 19, 2004, 17-year-old Brianna Maitland finished her shift at the Black Lantern Inn in Vermont and drove into the night. An hour later, her car was seen backed into an abandoned farmhouse on a rural stretch of Route 118. When police got there, they found her belongings still inside. But there was no crash, no struggle, and no Brianna. Two decades later, investigators have never publicly named a suspect, though rumors about local criminal networks have never stopped circulating. This is the story of a young woman who left work and drove into a mystery Vermont has never solved. In January 1996, the small Brazilian city of Varginha became the center of one of the most famous UFO stories in South American history. Multiple witnesses, including three young women, reported seeing a strange creature with a large head and red eyes lurking in the streets, while others claimed the military had captured one or more living beings and recovered a crashed craft. As soldiers reportedly swarmed the area and a young military police officer who allegedly handled a creature later died under murky circumstances, the official denials only deepened public suspicion that something was being covered up. To this day, Varginha is often called the "Brazilian Roswell." In this episode of Conspiracy Theories, Cults, & Crimes, Vanessa Richardson is joined by Laurah Norton of One Strange Thing to investigate the Varginha incident, the witnesses who swore they saw something otherworldly, and the alleged government cover-up that turned a small city into a permanent fixture of UFO lore. For this episode, Vanessa and Dr. Engels are joined by Alexis Linkletter, co-hose of Crime House's newest show Crimes of Reddit. In 1968, a young couple was shot dead in the Italian countryside while their six-year-old son slept in the back seat: a crime that quietly launched one of Italy's most haunting serial killing sprees. For over a decade, a gunman stalked couples parked in remote areas outside Florence, leaving behind little evidence and a signature pattern of brutal mutilation. When investigators finally linked the crimes through a single .22-caliber Beretta pistol, the trail led back to that very first murder.
