“I had all the characteristics of a human being—flesh, blood, skin, hair—but my depersonalization was so intense, had gone so deep, that my normal ability to feel compassion had been eradicated, the victim of a slow, purposeful erasure. I was simply imitating reality, a rough resemblance of a human being, with only a dim corner of my mind functioning." ― Bret Easton Ellis , American Psycho Hosted on Acast. “There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me, only an entity, something illusory, and though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there.” ― Bret Easton Ellis , American Psycho Hosted on Acast. The Odyssey is an ancient Greek epic poem traditionally attributed to Homer and believed to have been composed around the 8th century BCE. It emerged from a long tradition of oral storytelling, in which poets, known as bards, recited tales of legendary heroes before the poem was eventually written down. The epic tells the story of the Greek hero Odysseus and his long, perilous journey home after the Trojan War, blending history, myth, and adventure. Although scholars continue to debate whether Homer was a single historical figure or a name representing generations of storytellers, The Odyssey has remained one of the most influential works of world literature, shaping storytelling, language, and culture for nearly three thousand years.
