SDS are a company that have innovation, community and sustainability as core values. Their rainwater recovery and recycling installations are delivering cutting edge progress in rainwater harvesting and water re-use. In this Planet Possible Spotlight episode, Niki Roach visits 4 SDS sites to see the innovative approach first hand, understand the purpose and drive behind the company's values and meet the people and communities benefiting from SDS tech. Neil Sewell (Director of New Technology Services, SDS) joins Niki as they visit: Plymouth Argyle FC - where an SDS rainwater harvesting system is saving tens of thousands of litres of mains water that would otherwise be required for pitch irrigation Blackburns Farm - where rainwater re-use is enabling a community farm to save money, and serve the community better by growing more crops and plants more efficiently Wrea Green - where SDS's Intellistorm SMART water butts are helping a residential area reduce flooding by slowing the flow, plus save money on water bills Forton Primary School - where SDS water tanks and rainwater harvesting tech is making a school and village less flood-prone, saving money and enabling schoolkids to learn about sustainability in action. Northumbrian Water do innovation differently. Each year they run a festival, at Newcastle Racecourse, where thousands attendees come and take an active part in "sprints" - literally going from problem, through ideas, to the prototype of a solution... all within a week. It's not just the process that's different, it's the environment. Great food, unique entertainment, inspirational speakers and the outdoor festival summer vibe are just a few of the ingredients that make this event - and way of doing innovation - special. The results speak for themselves. Ideas born at or developed by this festival have delivered real measurable impacts worth tens of millions of pounds across the UK and beyond... and, crucially, are making huge strides in the journey towards net zero and more sustainable ways of working in the UK and international Water sectors. Planet Possible host Niki Roach visited the Innovation Festival earlier this summer to sample the atmosphere and tell the story of this remarkable event. This episode was made in partnership with the Northumbrian Water Innovation Festival. Planet Possible Spotlight is produced by Accordion Innovation Ltd
