We will dedicate this week of practice to meditation with the in and out breath, following the Buddha's careful guidance. In the discourses on practice with the in and out breath, the Buddha offers guidance on important aspects of the path: bringing a kind sensitivity to the body and the breath; developing skill in relation to pleasure and pain; finding nourishment and well-being in the body; discerning helpful and unhelpful mental activity and learning how to calm body and mind; and cultivating liberating insight. These different dimensions of practice unfold organically, deepening and supporting one another, while allowing each practitioner to find their own pace. We will practise lightly and with curiosity around the first steps of this path: from establishing ourselves and finding nourishment in the body, towards calming mental activity. These steps can provide a clear and steady foundation for collectedness and deepening. Part 2 of 5 Free guided Buddhist meditation and Dharma practice. Doubt in freedom's possibility, and in our capacity to embody it, is one of the stickiest hindrances on this path - it doesn't just cloud the mind but hollows out our willingness to practice at all. Yet by meeting each hindrance with wisdom and skill, we build the confidence to dissolve doubt. Part 5 of 5 Free guided Buddhist meditation and Dharma practice. The Simple Feeling of Being and Becoming is the direct felt sense of pure non-dual Presence as it unfolds within an ever-changing world. During this week of daily meditations, you will explore the ever-present background of awareness that exists prior to every state, sensation, insight, or realization. Theravāda Buddhists understand this as the knowing quality of awareness before identification; in Zen, it is often called our original face before thinking arises. Through meditation, reflection, and inquiry, you will explore this ever-present ground, bringing greater clarity, freedom, and ease to your practice and your life.
