  3. The Danphes have come round to play

    Aug 22, 202639 min

To kick off season 5 - I got to spend some time with Robin and Dan from spangly, jingly indie popsters The Danphes. The band are from Norwich and draw inspiration from the C86 era of mixtapes and hazy summers. They write shimmering hook-soaked songs that balance the bright, chiming guitars with a slightly lovelorn, scuffed around the edges charm. Rooted in the local scene and shaped by years of friendship, The Danphes make indie pop that feels immediate, heartfelt and quietly nostalgic - the kind of songs that sound like they have always existed. We talked about the forming of the band, the approach to their songwriting and playing live as well as where the name came from and we discover Dan's hidden talent (n.b. I checked after the recording and he was spot on. ) So enjoy the chat and we'll be back soon with more Don't forget to check out the ever evolving Spotify playlist of Norwich bands material compiled by pod producer Reuben Andrews called La musique de Norwich. chin chin

  5. The Boo Radleys - Once more round the block

    May 29, 202617 min

This time round, I've managed to blag some time with the almighty Boo Radleys - after their soundcheck at The Church in Ipswich. Formed in Wallasey, they took the 90's by storm with a number 1 album, top 40 singles including a top 10 with Wake Up Boo and some legendary Live shows. Coming back around covid with new material, the band have integrated their new songs into a live set featuring countless crowd favorites. Here we talk about new working ways sitting alongside old classics and how much fun they are having gadding about. It was a lot of fun talking to them - my 19 year old self would not have believed it... enjoy Don't forget to check out the ever evolving Spotify playlist of Norwich bands material compiled by pod producer Reuben Andrews called La musique de Norwich. chin chin

  6. Home Counties - a band on manoeuvres

    Apr 30, 202627 min

This week I managed to grab 3 members of the fast up and coming and Wildpath's favorites Home Counties - back stage at the UEA after their set opening for the sold out Franz Ferdinand gig. Home Counites are known for their satirical lyrics, angular guitars, synths, mixed vocals and for having a damn good time. A terrific watch live and with a couple of belting albums in the can - it was ace being able to get a few mins to talk about their origins - life on the road with a band like Franz and what's next . I hope you enjoy it - back soon with more :) Don't forget to check out the ever evolving Spotify playlist of Norwich bands material compiled by pod producer Reuben Andrews called La musique de Norwich. chin chin

  8. Alexander Carson - here there and everywhere

    Apr 3, 20261 hr 4 min

This weeks episode sees me sitting down for a conversation with the fantastic Alexander Carson. Based in Norwich and working between Norwich and London , Alexander Carson is a non-binary singer-songwriter and composer whose music blends classical discipline with modern lyrical introspection. Classically trained from the age of four, Carson's sound has been described as somewhere between Chopin & Rufus Wainwright, pairing intricate piano work with a distinctive, fragile vocal timbre. Their writing balances existential weight with surrealist wit, inspired by what they describe as "the mundanity of modernity" and an urge to articulate the absurdity of human existence without ever becoming self-serious. 9. Danger is Everywhere - Pedro Danger spills the beans

    Mar 20, 202643 min

This time I sat down with one of the Norwich scenes favorite sons Pedro Danger. Pedro is known to many from his solo work which he fits in alongside his work in bands which now includes friends of the pod Suds with who he has recently been touring. Pedro describes himself as an Ambling musician. 24years in this life, 13th alongside the guitar. Longtime Norwich featuring artist for many great local outfits. Love song writer extraordinaire and romantic, Pedro plays to any crowd with mostly any band. For fans of Terry Callier, Jack Kerouac, Jeff Buckley etc. Enjoy Don't forget to check out the ever evolving Spotify playlist of Norwich bands material compiled by pod producer Reuben Andrews called La musique de Norwich. chin chin

    Mar 7, 202643 min

Dylan Clarke the driving force behind Yer Blooze and a member of Red Mar Joins Tim in part 2 of the live special recorded at the Holloway in Feb. They got into all sorts from AI to Biscuit Tea, from new material to highly palatable old stuff and he event played us a song. We did the best we could with the sound recorded across and I-phone and a lap top in a packed basement so bear with us - we hope you enjoy it anyway Don't forget to check out the ever evolving Spotify playlist of Norwich bands material compiled by pod producer Reuben Andrews called La musique de Norwich. chin chin

    Feb 27, 202652 min

Welcome to this special episode (part 1) featuring Tom, Paige and Miles from The Mink - recorded at The Holloway in Feb. The Mink leapt from the soup of East Anglia's music scene in 2023, after catching glimpses of each other playing in other bands and thinking "hell yeah man". They play new-psych that is dreamy, groovy, riffy and flutey in equl measure. We had a lovely old time so I hope you enjoy it.... chin chin Don't forget to check out the ever evolving Spotify playlist of Norwich bands material compiled by pod producer Reuben Andrews called La musique de Norwich. chin chin

  12. On the march with Chest

    Feb 12, 202641 min

Chest are energetic, enigmatic and effortlessly stylish. Chest revel in cultivating an atmosphere that is both chaotic and irresistibly captivating. Emerging in Norwich in 2023 they quickly demanded attention from industry tastemakers and indie fans alike. Early releases earned them radio support from BBC radio 1, Radio 6 and local stations while a furious live schedule saw them turning heads across the UK with fierce raw performances that cemented their status as a must see live band. We chatted about all sorts here so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did recording it. 13. Feasts - Up and at it

    Jan 29, 202622 min

Welcome to season 4 which we are kicking off with a chat with Norwich based Noise makers Feasts. Feasts initially meeting as sworn enemies and after a moonlight duel that ended in a stalemate they decided to put that animosity to good use and start a chart topping band. The duo combine beautifully chaotic drumming, melodic yet noisy guitar, yelped vocals, multi-instrumentation and songs about cats. They offer up both disjointed fun pop songs and intense instrumentals influenced from a wide range of bands and genres. They are currently finishing off album number 3 which will be released in 2026. They haven't quite achieved the bottom of the charts yet or the planned headliner at Carrow road, but perhaps someday, someone will have heard about them. Dec 18, 202529 min

A few weeks ago i got the chance to chat to Hutch in the Green Room at Voodoo's ahead of their headline show. An extended line up for this tour has breathed new energy and sounds into the band. Funny, charming and hugely entertaining Hutch bring melody and a soulfulness to their records and their live shows. 15. The Holloway - Norwich's hidden gem

    Nov 29, 202524 min

Today I'm joined by Simon from The Holloway team to talk about how this cracking little venue came in to being. It's a grass roots micro-venue in the heart of Norwich hosting a variety of small scale musical, literary and cinematic events in a relaxed friendly and welcoming environment. The space houses a carefully curated collections of books, zines, prints and music for sale with a focus on publications and merchandise that relate to the artists, musicians, writers and film-makers who perform, speak and screen there. It's a beautiful space seeped in history.... have fun. 16. Canned Pineapple - They do exactly what it says on the tin

    Nov 14, 202512 min

This week we have an OTHP Short special as Tim chats to Brighton based scuzz-popsters Canned Pineapple backstage at Voodoo's ahead of their set supporting Pleasure Inc as part of the line-up for the Wildpaths pre-party a few weeks back. The whole band rocked up and we got into how they formed, what they are up to (and going to be up to) and some silly stuff. Their set was tremendous so make sure your see them next time they are in town at The Party of the year with Pleasure Inc and Other Half in December at the Waterfront. 17. Cerys from Dead Pop Mag Society - shares Wildpaths musings with OTHP

    Nov 6, 202531 min

Cerys Hubbard is a music journalist & Self proclaimed music history nerd based in Norwich, who likes to think her passion for all things rock n roll stemmed from the moment her parents decided to name her after Cerys Matthews. She grew up in the city listening to anything she could get whilst studying Music Marketing Media & Communications at BIMM Brighton. She founded Dead Pop Mag Society, a blog aiming to bring the fun and chaos of 80's and 90's music mags like Smash Hits to a new audience which so far has seen her have appearances on BBC Norfolk, BBC Leicester and most recently at Wild Paths festival interviewing some of the most exciting up and coming acts on the scene. When she's not doing this, she's working at Norwich Arts Centre, gallivanting about the city putting up posters and handing out brochures, pulling pints. selling merch and rabbiting on about her favorite bands to all the 6 radio dads that come her way. 18. Tex Kennedy - One of the fine City's favourite sons

    Oct 26, 202531 min

This week - I got to sit down for a pint with Matt “tex” Kennedy, 1/5th of the well oiled machine that is floral image, known city wide as the K. O. B (king of bass) for his fast attack ,unfathomable rhythm and onstage antics. Quoted by Spide Writer “Kennedy is the Iggy Pop of bass guitar”. In amongst all the chaos of touring and living a life as normal as a free wheeling freak can, He focuses a lot of time on his own project Black Magick Caravan. A project birthed from the grief of losing grandparents and finding a way to channel grief into songs and musical freakouts. Black Magick caravan is a mystical whimsy psych folk project toying with the feelings of paranoia, anxiety and finding the light at the end of the tunnel with themes of the occult, tarot, dreams. Flourish, the first song from black Magick caravans album titled “upon the dying flowers” is set to be released this autumn into winter. 19. Takeda - The ones to watch

    Oct 18, 202527 min

On the Huh caught up with front man Josh Harrison backstage at the Waterfront after their soundcheck and ahead of a home town album launch show to celebrate the release of their new album In Venus train. Thematically In Venus Train channels mystical figures from folk-lore and biblical metaphors, writing songs about obsession, love and grieving a past life. The album is a musically rich, at times intricate and thoughtful, at others explosive and intense journey through the bands blend of melancholic, organic folk and sprawling, fuzzy alternative -rock. Drawing influence in equal measure from British Folk revivalists Fairport convention and alt-metal icons Tool, the album fuses melodic and emotional sensibility of folk with the noise and fuzzed guitar tones of grunge, ultimately making music that sounds something like if Nick drake joined Pile. 20. KiraKira - Here, there and everywhere...

    Sep 20, 202526 min

This week I'm joined for a chat by the brilliant KiraKira. In her own words Kira is a Multi-instrumental singer songwriter grown in Norwich. In the space between bedroom pop heart-ache and white-rabbit indie dreams, she finds beauty in the drone of the mundane and floats in the idyll of ambience. Taking a heart-bearing lyrical approach to music in the way that you may see in the realms of Samia, Phoebe Bridges or Beabadoobee and watering her recordings with reverb and soft pads, KiraKira nurtures guitar music that feels as though plants could grow to it. As she leaves adolescence, soft-grunge sensibilities become more present drifting in an ocean of distortion and new found reflectivity. We'll be back soon with a few more episodes in the pipeline - but in the meantime.. Enjoy Don't forget to check out the ever evolving Spotify playlist of Norwich bands material compiled by pod producer Reuben Andrews called La musique de Norwich. chin chin
