A random time and day for a very good reason, today’s guest is from the east coast of Australia so for him it’s 19:30pm. We started as we always do with a quick chat and a garden question from George, this week about Rhubarb as we were wearing Rhubarb leaves on our heads the other day. Our guest is from the other side of the world, who is trying to help people reduce the supply chain from food grower to food eater with self sufficiency, connecting with nature and forming a community of like minded people. Nick talked about how he grows a diverse range of food for his family and grows plants to create herbal products to sell. I loved how Chay has found a connection to nature that has made his life complete and now he wants to inspire more people to break away from the systems that are controlling us all. We started the show as always with George’s gardening question, this week about courgette. We also got a radish update and chatted about what we have been up too. Our guest tonight was another gardener with a luscious head of hair, he has had 26 years as a landscape gardener, and is now an aspiring Garden Designer and even won a Silver Gilt Medal for his Blooming Border at RHS Malvern Spring show this year. He is currently gardening at a retirement estate with an incredible ethos and a wealth of history. As ever we had a wonderful rambling chat, which incorporated all of Paul’s journey in horticulture. We start as we always do with George’s gardening question this week about Radish. We all now need to sow some and see if the answer is correct. Tonight our guest was Jack who is a life long nature lover, a gardener, a designer, a writer who has featured in @gardenersworldmag @guardian @gardens_illustrated and many others, as well as being the author of Wild about Weeds and A Greener Life. I would also add artist on to the list. We geeked out about compost our favourite topic, and even about how Jamie plans to use goats to stop him having to use weed killer. What an incredible stat that over 40% of UK gardens are paved over, we definitely need to start reducing that number. We start as always with George’s garden question, this week about lawn mowers and when they were invented. Tonight we have a wildlife expert which you would think has nothing to do with gardening but in my opinion the two are very closely linked and the more natural we can make our gardens the better. It’s interesting to think about what plant you need to atract a certain insect and how specific those insect can be. Chris has had such a fantastic career so far from working in a nursery to releasing an amazing new sweet pea variety which won Best plant of the Year 2022 at @bbcgwlive Now Chris’s latest venture is @hortiaichris which Chris has poured all of his knowledge and other experts to create a horticultural specific AI you can try this for free for the first month if you want to try it out. Tom, Aime and Jon who are currently building a garden for the @rhsmalvernshowteam They count have chose a more perfect brief after the @rspb advice to stop feeding birds from feeders during the summer months to try and reduce disease.
