This episode is about efficiency: getting visibility on every platform without multiplying your workload. Helen walks through her own recent experiments, especially on LinkedIn, a platform where she barely posts and has low engagement, but where the right people are quietly watching and it's led to real client and business opportunities. She also breaks down how she's turned viral trend tutorials into email list lead magnets, and closes with a personal story about instruction quality that ties back into why her teaching style works. Key Points A wake up call: a client noticed and pursued Helen for a project after seeing a low engagement LinkedIn post. Low visibility numbers don't mean low impact, they can mean impact with the right people. LinkedIn can't be automated through repurposing tools the way TikTok to Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and YouTube can, and it needs a different voice (more business forward, not corporate speak). Helen's LinkedIn method: instead of creating separate content, she takes 2 to 3 posts she's already making each week and reframes the caption for a business audience. Example: the app launch post became "two years ago I thought about having an app, here's what I learned getting there" instead of a direct promotion. Repurposing content that already exists, rather than positioning it to sell, works because it reads as a lesson or case study rather than a pitch. Lead magnet strategy: when a trend blows up (Jon Hamm trend, "Hey Leo," "Like a Prayer") and people can't easily find or download the clip, Helen makes it available in exchange for an email. The Jon Hamm trend alone brought in over 13,000 emails. The value isn't an exclusive resource, it's removing friction (most people don't know how to screen record). Try this repurpose app : https://repurpose.io?fpr=muthership : Helen credits it with driving thousands of Instagram followers from content she wouldn't have posted there otherwise. Tradeoffs include manually re-adding tags and thumbnails on the other platforms, which she treats as low priority and doesn't let slow her down. The "TV stations" mental model: treat TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and Snapchat like different channels. The same content reaches different people depending on what the algorithm feeds them where, so repeating content across platforms is maximizing opportunity, not being repetitive. Not every viewer engages, and that's fine. People who watch without liking or commenting still count, and Helen has had multiple people mention her content in person despite zero engagement online. Personal tangent: a recent water sports lesson highlighted how much a good instructor changes the outcome (breaking things into progressive steps with the reasoning behind each one) versus a bad one, and how this mirrors Helen's own approach to teaching social media strategy. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is showing up everywhere in client conversations right now, and it's changing how brands and creators approach YouTube. Where SEO gets you found in a search, AEO gets you quoted as the answer when AI tools cite sources. This episode breaks down the shift toward longer-form YouTube content built for AEO, walks through the Muthership Studio's move into its own branded app, and shares a hard lesson learned about Apple's in-app purchase cut. Key Points AEO vs. SEO: SEO helps you show up in a search. AEO helps you show up as the answer itself, the kind of source AI tools cite when they do research and pull in outside information. Why YouTube is shifting: clients used to post YouTube content and push it with ad spend. Now more of them want longer-format videos specifically because length and depth help content surface in AI-generated answers. YouTube back-end basics still matter: tags, transcription accuracy, chapters, and thumbnails all feed into this. Advice for anyone overwhelmed: pick one or two things to focus on first (titling, transcript, captions) before adding more (chapters, tags). The Muthership Studio app launched this week: previously hosted inside the Mighty Networks app, now its own standalone branded app in iOS and Android. Notifications now read as Muthership instead of Mighty. Existing members see no real change inside; new members join without the extra step of downloading a separate host app. What's still inside the Studio: community chat, weekly live meetings every Monday (Q&As and lessons), studio tutorials, weekly trends, daily news feed. The Content That's Winning Isn't the Content That Sells Branded and creator content wins right now when it entertains first and lets the brand show up almost as an afterthought. Ad spend can inflate views without making content actually work. Examples: Duolingo's early public-stunt era, Sensodyne's leaf-blower dentist spot, and Liquid Death's full commitment to chaos over any hook-line-CTA formula. On the creator side, a cautionary example: someone whose only content is "I'm posting to grow my following" isn't telling a story, and it shows in the numbers. The fix is sharing what's authentically yours instead of comparing yourself to other creators. September's Studio theme is storytelling! This week's live demo covered overlapping on-camera audio (starting the next line under the tail of the last one) to tighten pacing for slower, more deliberate speakers without rushing their delivery - taught via the one of our own member’s content and the technique has already tried successfully by another member. I also covered how to use trends for stories, with examples of non-talking formats like the Pepé the King Prawn carousel-text trend, transition edits with text overlay, and a voiceover-free product demo that outperformed the voiced version. This week's episode came straight out of a studio hours session that hit me hard. A seasoned creator asked a simple question about overlays, and suddenly I realized: the advice that works for a confident, camera-natural storyteller can completely miss the mark for someone who's newer, a little nervous, and reading off a teleprompter. In this episode, I breaks down: • Why "just add overlays" (or any blanket editing advice) isn't one-size-fits-all, and how to figure out what YOUR speaking videos actually need • The real-time before-and-after from studio hours that showed just how different the same advice can land on two different creators • What actually makes a speaking video watchable (hint: it's not about following a formula) • A gorgeous studio member testimonial about stepping out from behind the camera and why "being seen" is such a big deal • How to build your own honest feedback loop so you're not just guessing whether your videos are working If you've ever wondered whether you're over-editing, under-editing, or just editing wrong for who you are on camera, this one's for you. In this episode of Muthership Creator Strategy, I dive into quick-cut editing and why editing pace is one of the biggest levers for keeping viewers from scrolling past your content. I share the story behind this episode: in my Monday studio meeting, I demonstrated fast-paced product editing (no talking head, just quick cuts) and got such glowing feedback that I knew I'd struck a chord. I even play a voice note from one of my studio members who cut her editing time from hours down to fifteen to thirty minutes using what I taught. Cuts aren't decoration, they're attention (or retention) management. I explain how editing pace should match your content and your platform - social media viewers are scrolling, not committed the way a TV audience is, so your pacing needs to reflect that. Even slower, calmer content (like meditation or breathing videos) still needs intentional pacing, just not fast cuts. I break down five editing techniques and when I use each one: jump cuts for tight, breath-free talking-head videos; text overlays and interrupts to keep my audience engaged when they might tire of watching my face; speed changes (used sparingly, in short bursts rather than throughout) to move through less important moments; looping, which I've found works best on short-form content rather than longer videos; and progress indicators or numbered lists (showing all the numbers up front with blanks to fill in), which I explain psychologically encourage viewers to stick around for the full list. The truth is that AI editing tools aren't there yet for this kind of creative, story-driven editing - it's a skill I believe creators need to learn themselves. I wrap up with an update on our studio's upcoming app launch, as we move from Mighty Networks to our own branded app.

You've seen the video: vision board, candle, or ‘repeat this mantra every morning’ and then a statement or caption about the universe delivering. What you didn't see is everything that led up to the actual result! On this week’s episode of the Muthership Creator Strategy, I'm sharing a different take on manifestation and why the version that goes viral is only ever half the story. Getting a little personal, there is something I said out loud 4 years ago (and only recently remembered saying it) which perfectly describes upcoming Muthership Creator Retreat. Did I actually manifest it? My take: Manifestation is real, but it's not just spoken words or focused thoughts. If you skip the part most people leave out of the caption - you're just talking to yourself. Check out the Muthership Creator Retreat details HERE! Join the Muthership Studio HERE!
Progress moves faster if you’re in the right group and this week's podcast episode breaks down exactly why. When you watch someone at your level pull off a transition, a vlog, a UGC video they'd never tried before, it closes the gap between "I should do that" and "I can do that too." That's the real engine behind community, and it's the thing I’ve built the studio around from day one. It's also why we have decided to launch the Muthership Studio app - launching in the App Store and Google Play mid-August! Tune in to hear how the studio evolved from an email-alert platform with weekly lessons into your daily content engine! You’ll also learn what community building actually teaches you about listening to your members and why personal branding remains so important especially during growth periods! 🚨IMPORTANT NOTE: When the app launches, all existing members will remain in the studio at their current monthly rate. JOIN NOW to lock your monthly rate at $36 before the price increase in August. No long term commitment - leave any time.
We're all chasing the same number. More followers, bigger following, the next milestone. But here's what nobody says out loud: that number isn't tied to your income, your success, or your freedom. Enter the algorithm… Most of your followers aren't seeing your content - not most days, maybe not ever. The platform decides who gets shown what, and it's optimizing for its own goals, not yours. In this week’s episode I’m sharing how to shift your focus and make the follower number work for you. You don’t need 10k, 20k, 100k, or even 1 million followers – you need a real connection with the people who show up for you consistently: your comments, your repeat customers, your email list. That's the audience you own. That's the one that ultimately pays you. If you want to really learn how to monetize your social media, check out the Muthership Creator Retreat for in-person learning, strategy and a real content plan.
Remember when DVRs let us finally skip commercials — and we loved it? Social media is now our TV. And somehow, as creators, we've built our own commercials right back into the feed. On this week's episode of The Muthership Creator Strategy, I’m breaking down a theory I can't stop thinking about: the same viral "hook line" formulas every guru is teaching are the exact reason your retention is tanking. Once enough creators use the same opening lines, audiences stop getting hooked and instead they get warned . The formula becomes the tell. "Nobody's talking about this." "I was today years old when I learned..." You know the ones. Your audience knows them too. And the second they clock it, they're gone. That's just the start. I also cover: · why "just be authentic" has become its own guru niche (and why that's a problem) · the mindset shift that changes who you're actually talking to when you post · why giving yourself permission to flop might be the smartest growth move you make this month · how to build an opening that comes from your content instead of a downloaded PDF of hook lines If you've ever felt like your own content is starting to bore you , this one's for you. And if you need a BETTER way to think about the ingredients needed in your opening lines, listen to THIS EPISODE!
Why Live Shopping Works (And How to Actually Sell During a Livestream) In this week’s podcast, I had such an informative conversation with British Hill, a TikTok live sales expert with 20+ years of on-air selling experience for HSN and QVC! She also hosts the Prime Collective , a community built for women over 40 which connects creators with brands! And she knows her sh*t! We had an eye-opening conversation about buyer psychology and why people actually click that purchase button! Here’s what I learned: Live shopping isn’t like video shopping. When someone’s watching a TikTok shop video, they’re getting information one way - whatever you decided to show them. But when they’re in a livestream? It’s different. They can ask questions in real-time. They feel like you’re their personal shopper. That changes everything. There’s a psychology to it. Most creators think their job is to convince people to buy. It’s actually the opposite. Your job is to help people make confident buying decisions. There’s a difference, and it changes how you show up entirely. The gap between features and benefits. You probably know this, but British walks through exactly how to do this in real-time on a livestream and the examples are chef’s kiss!! But here’s where it gets really good: We talk how to build trust through community, how to actually use energy and urgency without being pushy, and how to sell services (not just products) on a livestream. I took like three pages of notes, and I think you will too. Fair warning: There is a lot of valuable learning in this one AND my studio members are getting an extra 30-minutes of British’s expertise in a special bonus segment available only in da clerb!! If you’d like access to the full episode, email me: helen.themuthership@gmail.com BONUS EXCITEMENT!!! I've spoken at a lot of conferences over the years. And every single time, someone comes up to me and says: "I wish you could just show me how to do this. Can you sit down with me?" That gap between listening to something and actually being able to do it? That's what I'm trying to close. So I'm hosting my first in-person Muthership Creator Retreat in October in NYC and it's completely different from traditional speaker events. It's immersive. It's hands-on. It's built around learning by doing, not just sitting and listening. RESERVE YOUR SPOT HERE! In this week's podcast episode, I'm walking through the entire vision and plan. Why immersion actually changes how you learn (think: language learning). What the three days look like. Why the one-day option still packs a punch. And honestly, why this matters if you're feeling stuck or like you're not progressing. This isn't an infomercial episode for the event, it's me explaining exactly what I've envisioned, eliminating any questions you might have and my thoughts on why it's going to make a real difference. If you have any questions, feel free to email me directly: helen.themuthership@gmail.com
If you think the algorithm is broken for reaching your audience, guess what? There's something that isn't broken. Direct access to the people who actually care about what you're doing. In this week's episode, I'm talking about private communities - not as some big, daunting thing you have to build tomorrow, but as the actual future of the creator business. And honestly? I’m not the first person to talk about this! I'm sharing why community is so different from just posting content, how going through transformation together is what actually keeps people invested, and the one thing you should start doing right now if you're even slightly interested. Plus, some personal stuff about why this has become so much more meaningful to me than I ever expected.
Vlogging isn’t what it used to be! When you hear "vlogging," what comes to mind? Probably some daily lifestyle creator showing their morning routine, or a YouTuber showing their travel diary. But here's the thing: vlogging is actually one of the most underrated tools for building your personal brand, making sales, and creating trust with your audience, no matter what you do. And it doesn't look like what you think it does. In this week's episode, I'm breaking down why vlogging works in literally every niche, how it removes the filter between you and your audience faster than any other format, and why showing your process matters way more than telling people to buy. Plus, I'm calling out the difference between daily vlogging and strategic vlogging (and why one actually moves the needle on your business). If you think you're not the "vlogging type," this episode might change your mind.
You got 50M views... but where's the money? Viral videos have this mystique of being a lottery ticket to easy money. You see headlines like "Creator quits day job after going viral!" and the illusion feels REAL. But in today’s episode, I broke down what actually happened to some of the most popular viral creators out there, and it's not what you think. That viral window is SO short. Brands want what's hot TODAY. Not yesterday. And if you don't have a plan BEFORE you go viral, you're basically watching opportunity walk past. In this episode, I'm calling out the myth and sharing exactly what separates creators who actually monetize their moment from those who just get a cool story to tell. Listen in to hear the full breakdown, the creators who did it RIGHT, and what you should actually be planning for.
I've tested a LOT of automation apps to streamline the creator process (and I mean a lot!) And I've finally landed on the ones that actually work for my workflow. But here's the thing - every single one has nuances nobody talks about. In this week's episode, I'm breaking down the creator tools I'm using right now StanStore Repurpose.io Zapier ManyChat and which email platforms I've cycled through and why. I'm sharing what makes each one worth the money (or not), the hidden limitations I discovered after actually using them, and exactly where you might run into problems. Plus, how to figure out which tools are actually moving the needle on YOUR conversions versus just draining your monthly budget. If you're trying to scale and not sure which tools are worth the investment, this one cuts through the noise.
What if I told you there's a way to monetize your audience that doesn't require a huge following, doesn't take constant upkeep, and could actually work while you sleep - literally! I'm not talking about courses where you're selling courses about selling courses (we all know those vibes are weird). I'm talking about something way more real. In this week's episode, I break down exactly what counts as a digital product, how creators in every single niche are already doing this (even if they don't realize it), and why you probably have everything you need to get started.
If you've been posting shop or affiliate content and wondering why it's not converting the way you hoped, this week's episode is for you. I'm talking about the mistake I see over and over again with creators who want to monetize, and honestly it's the thing nobody in the shop space is telling you. It's not about posting more. It's not about better products. It goes way deeper than that. I'm also getting into how to figure out your real reason for showing up online in the first place, because that one thing changes everything about how you create content and who you attract. If you've ever felt like you're spinning your wheels or comparing yourself to creators who claim to be making crazy money every month, you're going to want to hear this one. In this week’s episode of The Muthership Creator Strategy , I’m diving deep into why social media desperately needs older creators - not as participants who "fit in," but as leaders. In this episode, we’re talking about: · The Power of Narrating: Why our life experience allows us to tell relevant stories instead of just "curating" an aesthetic. · The "Brain Work" of Content: How mastering new tools and editing can help your brain health. · Leading vs. Copying: How to start using your actual expertise to build a durable audience. · Developing Thick Skin: How seeing yourself on camera helps you shed self-judgment If you’ve been feeling invisible or worried that you have "nothing to say," this episode is for you. Your perspective is a service that the internet actually needs.
