Welcome to the Fat Loss School podcast! If you’ve been struggling with extra pounds, menopausal belly fat, feeling overwhelmed by too many diet options, are on the borderline with health issues, and are frustrated by past weight loss failures - especially if you’ve hit the fabulous fifty mark - then grab a seat because this podcast is your ultimate fat loss classroom. I am Amy Bryan, 30 year educator and certified FASTer Way to Fat Loss® online nutrition and fitness coach. I’ll be your teacher and guide to show you that losing fat and gaining energy - plus maintaining it long term - is truly possible even at our age. I know because I’ve been there. In my 30s & 40s, I did all the diets, tried all the gimmicks, over-exercised, lost and gained the same pounds over & over. At 50, I had accomplished so much except in this one very important area and was through wasting time and energy on temporary fixes! This podcast will teach lifestyle changes that shed the fat in a healthy way that you can sustain long term and change your health trajectory so you age with energy, independence, and confidence. Think of these few minutes together as a study hall with cheat sheets for fat loss and include topics like intermittent fasting, carb cycling, mindset reframing, and more. Grab your notebook, because class is officially in session, and it’s time to rewrite your wellness story! Connect with me at https://linktr.ee/amybryanfasterway

  1. How to Handle Everyone's Unsolicited Diet Advice & Stay on Track from Fat Loss School for Women Over 50 | Strategies to Lose Weight and Belly Fat After Menopause with Intermittent Fasting, Carb C, opens in a new tab

    Sep 18, 202612 min

“Are you sure you should be eating that?” If you've ever changed your nutrition only to discover that suddenly EVERYONE has an opinion about what's on your plate, this Friday Extra Credit episode of FAT LOSS SCHOOL is for you! Maybe a family member questions your carbs, a coworker raises an eyebrow at your lunch, or a well-meaning friend wants to tell you about the diet THEY think you should be following. Even comments like, “But you don't need to diet!” can leave you questioning yourself. In this quick lesson, we're talking about how to handle unsolicited diet and nutrition advice without letting other people's opinions derail your healthy habits or fat-loss progress. You'll learn how to: Stop feeling like you have to defend or explain what's on your plate. Separate someone's intentions from the actual advice they're giving you. Prepare a few simple responses for uncomfortable food conversations. Trust the nutrition approach that's working for YOU. Stay confident when friends or family follow very different diets. Recognize when someone's comments may be more about their own food beliefs than yours. Lean on a coach and supportive community instead of trying to navigate your health journey alone. Especially for women over 50, sustainable nutrition isn't about eating as little as possible or following every new diet trend. It's about fueling your body, preserving muscle, getting stronger, supporting your health, and creating habits you can actually maintain. And having the right people in your corner makes that so much easier. If you're ready to learn the foundational strategies, join my 6-week FASTer Way class for women 50+. 2. 237. Fall Bucket List: Fun Ways to Eat Better, Move More, and Feel Your Best After 50 from Fat Loss School for Women Over 50 | Strategies to Lose Weight and Belly Fat After Menopause with Intermittent Fasting, Carb C, opens in a new tab

    Sep 14, 202616 min

What if getting healthier this fall felt more like a bucket list than a to-do list? In this episode of FAT LOSS SCHOOL, we’re making healthy living FUN with a Fabulous-Over-Fifty Fall Bucket List packed with ways to move more, enjoy seasonal whole foods, reduce stress, prioritize sleep, and make some wonderful memories along the way. Let's get excited about FALL and all the healthy opportunities that come with it. 🍎 MOVE MORE & ENJOY FALL Add some fun seasonal movement to your calendar: Go apple picking. Visit a pumpkin patch. Get lost in a corn maze. Attend a fall festival, community fair, or county fair. Hike a trail to see the changing leaves. Take a fall foliage walk through your neighborhood. Go to a high school or college football game—and park farther away! Take the grandkids to the park and PLAY. Rake leaves—and maybe jump in the pile. Meet a friend for a walking date. Explore a new town on foot. Go antiquing or visit an outdoor market. Plan a fall adventure day somewhere you've never been. 🎃 EAT THE SEASON Fall is loaded with delicious whole foods. Put some of these on your healthy fall food bucket list: Try several varieties of fresh apples. Add pumpkin to oatmeal, smoothies, yogurt, or protein muffins. Make a big pot of turkey chili, chicken soup, or white chicken chili. Try winter squash such as butternut, acorn, spaghetti, or delicata. Roast Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots. Bake or air-fry sweet potatoes. Enjoy pears, cranberries, pomegranates, or figs. Use fall spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. Visit a farmers market and choose one fruit or vegetable you've never tried. Make a warm harvest salad and add plenty of protein. Create a sheet-pan dinner with seasonal vegetables. Find three new healthy fall recipes you're genuinely excited to eat. 🍂 PROTECT YOUR PEACE Healthy living after 50 isn't only about food and exercise. Make room for the things that help lower stress and make life feel good: Sit outside with your morning coffee—without your phone. Read a book on the porch. Light a candle and enjoy a quiet evening. Listen to music while you cook. Gather around a firepit with friends or family. Take a scenic drive. Turn off the news for an evening. Take a Sunday afternoon nature walk. Plan a fall picnic. Call someone you love while you walk. Spend intentional time with family and friends. Go somewhere beautiful and simply be present instead of documenting it. Make one fall memory that can't possibly be measured on a scale. 😴 MAKE SLEEP PART OF THE BUCKET LIST Fall is also a great time to create a cozy evening routine that supports better sleep and recovery: Try going to bed 30 minutes earlier for a week. Put your phone away earlier in the evening. Keep your bedroom cool and dark. Take a warm shower or bath before bed. Enjoy a cup of herbal tea. Read instead of scrolling. Build some quiet time into your evening. Give yourself permission to REST. The big lesson? Healthy living isn't just about what we give up. It's about everything our health allows us to DO. We want strong legs to walk through the apple orchard, strong arms to carry the pumpkins, energy to play with our grandchildren, and healthy bodies that allow us to travel, explore, laugh, love, and make memories for many falls to come. Your homework: Choose at least THREE things from this Healthy Fall Bucket List and put them on your calendar. Let's make this a season of whole foods, movement, strength, better sleep, less stress, good health, and a whole lot of FUN. Sep 7, 202618 min

Can you eat carbs and still lose fat after 50? Absolutely—and learning when and how to eat carbohydrates may be more useful than simply trying to eliminate them. In this episode of FAT LOSS SCHOOL, we’re going back to class for a lesson on carb cycling for women over 50. I’m breaking down what carb cycling is, why we strategically alternate lower-carb and regular-carb days, and how this nutrition strategy can fit into a healthy approach to fat loss, metabolic health, insulin sensitivity, and body composition during menopause and beyond. We’ll also talk about why carbohydrates aren’t the enemy, the importance of pairing your nutrition with strength training, and why preserving and building muscle becomes increasingly important as we age. You’ll learn how protein, carbs, healthy fats, macros, exercise, and recovery can work together instead of relying on another restrictive low-calorie or low-carb diet. If you’re a woman in your 50s, 60s, or beyond who is frustrated with menopause weight gain, stubborn belly fat, changing metabolism, insulin resistance, or diets that no longer seem to work, this episode will help you better understand the role carbohydrates can play in your healthy lifestyle. It’s time to stop fearing carbs and start learning how to use them strategically. Grab your notebook—Carb Cycling 101 is officially in session! Macro tracking can feel confusing at first, but it doesn’t have to be. In this FAT LOSS SCHOOL episode, I’m breaking down the basics of protein, carbohydrates, and fat—and explaining why tracking macros can be a more useful fat-loss tool than simply counting calories. You’ll learn what macros are, why each one matters, how protein supports muscle preservation after 50, whether you should stay under your macro targets, how to handle protein supplements, fiber, restaurant meals, alcohol, and exercise, and why eating less and exercising more is not always the answer. I’ll also explain why your macro targets should be customized to YOU rather than copied from a friend or pulled from a random online calculator. Inside the FASTer Way program, you receive customized macro targets, weekly meal plans and menus, strategically programmed workouts, and coaching to help you put it all together without having to figure it out on your own. If you’re a woman over 50 who wants to lose fat, preserve muscle, improve body composition, and finally understand how to fuel your body, consider this your Macro Tracking 101 class. In this episode: What protein, carbs, and fats actually do Macros vs. calories for fat loss Why eating below your targets can backfire How much protein matters after 50 Whole foods vs. “if it fits your macros” Protein powders and supplements Fiber-rich foods Tracking macros while eating at restaurants Alcohol and fat-loss goals Why strength training and nutrition work together How customized macro targets make the process easier This is Part 1 of my Macro Mini-Series, so be sure to listen to the upcoming lessons on practical macro-tracking tips and carb cycling. 12. 227. Sugar Burner or Fat Burner? How to Train Your Body to Burn Stored Fat After 50 from Fat Loss School for Women Over 50 | Strategies to Lose Weight and Belly Fat After Menopause with Intermittent Fasting, Carb C, opens in a new tab

    Jul 20, 202611 min

Are you hungry every two or three hours? Do you hit an afternoon energy crash and find yourself reaching for something sweet? If so, you're not lazy and you don't lack willpower—you may simply be functioning as a sugar burner instead of a fat burner. In this episode of FAT LOSS SCHOOL, Amy Bryan explains one of the most important metabolic concepts for women over 50: how your body chooses fuel and why learning to access stored body fat can make fat loss, energy, and appetite control so much easier. If you've been frustrated by menopause belly fat, constant cravings, or feeling like your metabolism has slowed to a crawl, this lesson is for you. In This Episode You'll Learn: The difference between being a sugar burner and a fat burner Why many women over 50 become metabolically inflexible How frequent eating can keep your body dependent on sugar for fuel The role insulin plays in fat storage and fat burning Why energy crashes and cravings are often signs of poor metabolic flexibility How intermittent fasting can help your body tap into stored fat Why protein, strength training, and strategic carbohydrates matter Simple steps to become a more efficient fat burner—without extreme dieting Key Takeaway Your body has two fuel tanks: Sugar and Stored Body Fat. Most women have spent years relying almost exclusively on sugar because of constant snacking, processed foods, and elevated insulin levels. Your body was designed to burn fat. You simply have to train it to become metabolically flexible again. When that happens, many women notice: Fewer cravings More stable energy Better appetite control Less dependence on snacks Easier fat loss Improved metabolic health Ready to Learn the FASTer Way? If you're tired of guessing what to eat and want a proven system that teaches you how to become a healthier fat burner while preserving muscle after age 50, I'd love to coach you. Inside my next FASTer Way to Fat Loss® class you'll learn: Intermittent fasting Macro tracking (without perfection) Carb cycling Strength training Walking for fat loss Mindset strategies for lasting success Accountability and coaching every step of the way Registration for my next class is now open! 14. 225. The Best Supplements for Women Over 50: What Helps, What Doesn't, and What to Avoid from Fat Loss School for Women Over 50 | Strategies to Lose Weight and Belly Fat After Menopause with Intermittent Fasting, Carb C, opens in a new tab

    Jul 6, 202612 min

Are you spending hundreds of dollars on supplements and wondering if they're actually helping? In this episode, Amy breaks down one of the biggest misconceptions in the health and wellness industry: the idea that supplements can replace healthy habits. Spoiler alert: they can't. If you've ever stood in the supplement aisle feeling overwhelmed by promises of more energy, faster metabolism, better sleep, stronger bones, less belly fat, and anti-aging benefits, this episode is for you. Amy uses a simple analogy you'll never forget: Supplements are the sprinkles. They are not the sundae. The real foundation of healthy aging, fat loss, and metabolic health after 50 comes from consistent habits like eating protein, strength training, walking, drinking water, prioritizing sleep, managing stress, and eating mostly whole foods. Once those habits are in place, certain supplements may help fill nutritional gaps and support your goals.
