The Missing Links Golf Show follows two guys in their early 50s with plenty of life experience, unfinished business, and one ambitious goal: to qualify for and compete in the NSW Amateur Senior Golf Championship. Each week, Steve and Andy share the highs, the lows, and the lessons from their pursuit of better golf. But this isn't just a golf podcast. It's about what happens when you decide you're not done yet. From practice sessions and tournament rounds to sports psychology, coaching, equipment, and the mental battles we all face, they explore how the game reflects life—and how the lessons learned away from the course can make you a better golfer. Whether you're chasing a lower handicap, a bigger goal, or simply proof that your best days aren't behind you, this is the journey for you.

  2. Ep. 136 The Velocity of Your Game from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Aug 19, 20261 hr 23 min

Andy Walker heads back to one of his old junior stomping grounds for the Mollymook Senior Amateur — and discovers that while the scorecard says 79 , the story is considerably more positive. After a week of preparation, some last-minute advice from former LPGA Tour player Wendy Doolan and a promising range session, Andy arrives at Mollymook feeling confident. Then the nerves kick in. There are snap hooks, unlucky bounces, slow greens, a cricket-ball-quality collision with a course stake and a few questionable club-selection decisions. But there are also plenty of signs that the game is moving in the right direction. The boys dig into why the score isn't always the best measure of how well you've played , the importance of staying in the fight when things aren't going your way, and their favourite concept of the "velocity" of your game — not just where your game is, but the direction and speed in which it's moving. There's also a deep dive into putting. Andy discusses his new putter, why he's finally starting to feel confident over longer putts, and the fascinating discovery that what your eyes tell you about your putting alignment may not be what is actually happening. And, naturally, there are some important questions: Why didn't Andy hit driver? What exactly constitutes a "stinger"? And how many times can you hit a snap hook before you finally admit there's a problem? The episode finishes with some exciting news: Andy has entered three more senior amateur events, all qualifiers for the NSW Senior Open . The pilgrimage continues. 3. Ep. 135 The Putter Doesn't Lie from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Aug 12, 20261 hr 7 min

Steve and Andy dive deep into the numbers behind Andy’s latest putting transformation, following a coaching session with Andrew Dote and a Sam PuttLab analysis of the new LAB DF3 Sweeper. The results are revealing. Andy’s new putter has dramatically improved his consistency and face stability, particularly on longer putts—but the data also exposes some new problems. He’s consistently hitting the putter on an outside-in path, producing what might be described as a remarkably reliable collection of baby fades. The boys unpack face aim, face rotation, impact position, launch angle, forward press, acceleration and the eternal battle between feel and real. They also explore why the right equipment matters: a club fitting won’t magically fix your golf swing, but the wrong equipment can make improvement almost impossible. And there’s a bigger lesson in the data. Knowing what you actually do, rather than what you think you do, changes the way you practise. Then Steve shares a brief update of a round with his new coach, Matt—a round that provides a perfect demonstration of another Missing Links principle. One bad shot doesn't have to become a bad round. Finally, the weather turns nasty, the temperature drops, the rain arrives, and the boys find themselves asking the question every golfer has asked at some point: Why do we do this? Fortunately, there might just be a song about it. Join the fun by entering The Missing Links Yearly Championship to compete with Steve, Andy and other Pilgrims from all across the world. 4. Ep. 134 It Gets Ugly Before It Gets Better from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Aug 6, 20261 hr 18 min

Steve has officially found a coach. In this episode, Matt Woodbridge returns to the show—but this time with a very different role. After months of searching for someone who could provide more than another swing tip, Steve begins what he hopes will be a long-term coaching journey towards scratch golf. Rather than immediately changing mechanics, Matt starts by asking bigger questions: Where do you actually want to get to? What kind of golfer are you trying to become? What part of your game would you fix if you could only choose one? The answers aren't as simple as they seem. The guys dive into why most coaching stops at the symptoms instead of addressing the causes, why data can sometimes challenge what you think your weaknesses are, and how real improvement requires commitment long before the scorecard shows it. Later, they unpack the first technical changes from Steve's initial practice session—including two setup adjustments that immediately transformed his five iron from a leaking 150-metre fade into a solid 170-plus metre strike. But perhaps the biggest lesson wasn't technical at all... Sometimes the swing has to feel completely wrong before it becomes right. It's an honest conversation about coaching, trust, patience and the uncomfortable reality that meaningful improvement often gets worse before it gets better. Rock Factor The episode finishes with the debut of Steve's new original song inspired by the coaching journey—a fitting reminder that the biggest breakthroughs often begin with the discomfort of change. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the fun by entering The Missing Links Yearly Championship to compete with Steve, Andy and other Pilgrims from all across the world. 6. Ep. 133 When Going Low Get's Hard from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Jul 28, 20261 hr 9 min

Send us Fan Mail What happens when you suddenly find yourself four under par after nine holes? This week Steve and Andy welcome back fan favourite Mick Patterson for an episode that starts with an ordinary competition round before taking an unexpected turn into one of the most fascinating mental game discussions we've had on the show. Mick shares the story of a practice round where, despite arriving underprepared and without his usual routine, he found himself four under through the front nine. The conversation explores what changes when you're playing better than you've ever played before—and why closing out great rounds is often harder than creating them. The boys unpack: Why trying to hit the ball harder often makes you hit it shorter. How tempo and rhythm unlocked Mick's best ball-striking. The challenge of staying present when your score starts getting your attention. Practical techniques for returning to the moment using breathing, awareness and your senses. Why learning to be uncomfortable is part of becoming a better golfer. Later in the episode, Mick introduces his new golf simulator business, discussing everything from designing the perfect home setup to avoiding costly mistakes when building your own indoor practice space. To find out more about home golf simulators, contact Mick via 0410721864 or email mick@thesimstudio.com.au And of course, Golf Rock returns with another original song—this time dedicated to Andy Walker's long-running battle with Kooindah's infamous 13th hole. If you've ever wondered why your best golf disappears just when it matters most, this episode is for you. In This Episode Thursday's less-than-memorable competition round. Mick's remarkable four-under front nine. Why tempo beats effort. The psychology of protecting a great score. Flow state versus analytical thinking. Using your senses to stay present. Breathing techniques for pressure situations. Why experience is the key to learning how to go low. Inside Mick Patterson's new golf simulator business. Golf Rock: The 13th Owns Me. Quote of the Week "Stop thinking and come to your senses." Pilgrim's Challenge The next time you feel pressure building during a round, don't fight it. Instead, bring your attention back to something real: Feel your feet on the ground. Feel your hands on the club. Notice the trees moving. Listen to the birds. Take one slow, connected breath. Then simply play the next shot. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the fun by entering The Missing Links Yearly Championship to compete with Steve, Andy and other Pilgrims from all across the world. Send us Fan Mail The final major of the year delivered everything—brilliant golf, controversial rulings, unforgettable moments and one of the best displays of championship composure you'll see. This week Steve and Andy unpack Ryan Fox's remarkable victory at Royal Birkdale, discussing the mindset that separates champions from contenders. They examine the crucial decisions that won Fox the Claret Jug, why one bogey may have been the best bogey of the week, and what every club golfer can learn from his fearless approach down the closing stretch. The conversation also tackles Bryson DeChambeau's rules controversy, Scottie Scheffler's fortunate break, the future of LIV Golf, and whether Australia deserves to host a major championship. Plus, they review the performances of the Australians, discuss the rise of Sam Burns and Cameron Young, analyse the latest Strokes Gained data, and ask whether the Australian Open really should be considered golf's "fifth major." In this episode: Ryan Fox's fearless mindset on the closing holes Why "playing to win" beats playing not to lose The incredible bogey that kept Fox's tournament alive Bryson DeChambeau's penalty and the fallout that followed Scottie Scheffler's controversial free drop What Sam Burns showed despite another near miss Cameron Young continues knocking on the major championship door Adam Scott, Lucas Herbert and the Australian contingent Does LIV Golf still have a future? 9. Ep. 131 The Pilgrimage Gets Serious: Inside Andy's Putting Revolution from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Jul 15, 20261 hr 14 min

Send us Fan Mail The golfing pilgrimage takes another major step this week. Before diving into golf, Steve and Andy wrap up the State of Origin decider, celebrate a Blues victory and debate the biggest talking points from the series—including bunker decisions, fingernails, Cameron Smith's post-match commentary and whether Queensland really "understands Origin." Back on the fairways, listener feedback clears up Andy's confusion over the Rules of Golf and the mysterious "general area," before the monthly Missing Links Championship results are decided with another dramatic appearance from the Dice of Truth. The main event is Andy's deep dive into improving his putting. After seeking out former tour professional Andrew Dodt for coaching, Andy undergoes a full SAM PuttLab analysis that exposes exactly what's happening during his stroke. The data confirms long-held suspicions, uncovers several surprises and ultimately leads to a big equipment decision that could transform his game. Steve and Andy discuss why understanding your own tendencies is more important than copying someone else's technique, and why the right equipment should work with your swing—not against it. To finish the episode, the boys debut another original golf rock anthem celebrating every golfer's journey: Golfing Pilgrimage . Question of the Week Have you ever had a proper club or putter fitting that completely changed your game? Or are you still fighting your equipment instead of letting it help you? Let us know in The Missing Links Golf Club on Facebook or send us a message—we'd love to hear your story. 10. Ep. 130 The Return, The Reset & The 19th Hole Prophet from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Jul 8, 20261 hr 7 min

Send us Fan Mail After two months away from competitive golf, Steve returns to competition play with no expectations—just gratitude for being back on the course. What follows is a hole-by-hole story of resilience, rust, recovery and a reminder that golf often rewards the players who stop trying to force perfection. Along the way, Steve is joined by a very special caddie whose words of wisdom become the defining lesson of the day, while Andy helps unpack what really mattered about the round beyond the final score. The boys also preview the State of Origin decider, analyse Steve's strokes gained numbers, discuss why the driver finally behaved itself again, and explore how shifting your mindset can sometimes unlock better golf than endless technical work. The episode finishes with the debut of another original Missing Links Golf Show song: "The 19th Hole Prophet" — a tribute to every golfer who's ever solved everyone else's swing over a beer in the clubhouse. In this episode State of Origin III predictions Steve's first competitive round in two months Playing golf with gratitude instead of expectation Young Mr Hinks' surprisingly wise caddie advice Escaping trouble without letting one bad hole become two Strokes Gained breakdown from the round Why reduced expectations can improve performance Returning to single figures Premiere of The 19th Hole Prophet Memorable Quote "It isn't bad. It is what it is. You're deciding it's bad." Final Thought Sometimes the score isn't the biggest win. Sometimes simply being back on the golf course, appreciating the people you're with, and remembering why you love the game is enough. 11. Ep. 129 The War Inside The Mind from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Jul 3, 20261 hr 10 min

Send us Fan Mail Andy returns from the Oatlands Seniors Championship with a scorecard he'd rather forget—but the numbers only tell part of the story. What begins as a tournament review quickly turns into one of the most honest conversations the boys have had about golf, confidence and improvement. Andy breaks down his round using Strokes Gained data, revealing just how costly an errant driver can be, while Steve challenges him to think beyond the score and examine what's really happening between the ears. The discussion explores a fascinating question every competitive golfer eventually faces: Do you earn confidence through preparation... or through experience? Along the way they discuss: Andy's full tournament review from the Oatlands Seniors Why driving accuracy completely dictated the score How approach play remained a surprising strength The impact of championship course conditions Stable confidence versus fragile confidence Whether tournament golf should be part of development—or the reward for it Learning from poor rounds without letting them define you Why chasing certainty in golf is a dangerous game The value of preparation versus competition experience A preview of Andy's new plans for fixing both his putting and driver The episode finishes with an original Missing Links Golf Show rock ballad, "The War Inside My Mind," capturing the emotional rollercoaster every golfer knows all too well. If you've ever walked off the course questioning your game—or yourself—this episode will remind you that every golfer fights battles that never appear on the scorecard. Quote of the Week: "You don't rise to the occasion—you fall back on your preparation." Listener Question: When you're preparing for bigger tournaments, what's more important: putting in more practice before you compete, or gaining experience by playing more events? 12. Ep. 128 US Open Carnage: How Wyndham Clark Survived Shinnecock from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Jun 23, 20261 hr 5 min

Send us Fan Mail The US Open delivered exactly what golf fans expect: brutal conditions, impossible-looking greens and a champion who simply refused to break. Steve and Andy unpack Wyndham Clark's remarkable second US Open victory at Shinnecock Hills, where a six-shot overnight lead almost disappeared before Clark steadied himself to claim another major title. The boys discuss the incredible scrambling display that proved decisive, the mental resilience required to survive the final round, and why one shot on the 16th hole may have changed the entire tournament. The conversation also dives into the unique challenge of Shinnecock itself. From massive fairways to terrifying green complexes and late-afternoon Poa Annua putting surfaces, this was a golf course that punished even the slightest mistake. Elsewhere, the lads discuss: The growing problem of poor spectator behaviour in professional golf. Sam Burns' latest major heartbreak and whether his breakthrough moment is still to come. Scottie Scheffler's quiet challenge and why chasing majors may not suit him as much as leading them. Adam Scott's extraordinary achievement of 100 consecutive major appearances. The disappointing week for the Australian contingent. What the latest strokes gained data tells us about the real keys to scoring on the toughest courses in the world. Plus, a reminder that while putting matters, elite ball striking continues to separate contenders from everyone else. A US Open packed with storylines, controversy, resilience and a timely lesson about what it really takes to win when par is a great score. 13. Ep. 127 Velocity Toward Better Golf from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Jun 18, 20261 hr 22 min

Send us Fan Mail This week on The Missing Links Golf Show , Steve and Andy kick things off by dissecting New South Wales' disappointing Game Two State of Origin performance. From selection debates to coaching questions, the boys discuss what went wrong after a promising first half and whether the Blues need a major rethink before the decider at Suncorp. Then it's back to golf, where Andy delivers a fascinating round report from Kooindah. Despite a frustrating finish, there are plenty of encouraging signs as months of work begin to show up on the course. Steve also shares valuable insights into performance psychology, including why pressure should be viewed as a privilege and how learning to enjoy uncomfortable moments is a key step toward better golf. Despite a back-nine stumble, there are clear signs that Andy's game velocity is moving in the right direction, with improved ball striking, sharper short game performance and renewed optimism about what's ahead. Plus: an eagle from a drop-kicked putt, a playing partner with questionable timing, and an invitation for the NSW Rugby League to call the boys if they want help motivating the team before Game Three. Key Takeaway "The goal isn't to avoid pressure. The goal is to seek it out, embrace it, and learn to perform when it arrives." Clubs loaded. Golf shoes on. 14. Ep. 126 What If Your Swing Isn't The Problem? from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Jun 10, 20261 hr 11 min

Send us Fan Mail This week Steve and Andy open the show with an overdue discussion about State of Origin before eventually remembering it's a golf podcast. After wrapping up another month of the Missing Links Golf Show Championship — including another dramatic dice-of-truth playoff — the conversation turns to something far more important than scorecards. Andy shares a significant shift in his approach to golf improvement. After months of chasing technical swing changes, he's questioning whether feel, intuition and better decision-making might be the smarter path forward for a busy golfer trying to balance work, family and competition. The discussion dives into: Why practice rounds may be more valuable than technical work The difference between process-focused and outcome-focused putting Building a reliable wedge game without becoming a human launch monitor Why good tempo can hide a lot of technical imperfections Steve then opens up about the challenges his family has faced following his son's Type 1 diabetes diagnosis and how it has reshaped his priorities, expectations and relationship with golf. It's an honest conversation about balancing ambition with reality, understanding what matters most, and recognising that every season of life requires a different approach. 15. Ep. 125 There's Life in the Old Pilgrim Yet! from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Jun 4, 20261 hr 7 min

Send us Fan Mail After a month away from competition golf, Andy finally returns to the fairways at Kooinda—and the round gets off to anything but a smooth start. A delayed tee time, a stiff back, a snap hook, a spectacular 42-metre shank and even an accidental pirouette threaten to derail the day before it really begins. But instead of ejecting out of the pilot's seat, Andy does what every golfer eventually has to learn: stay in the fight. As the round unfolds, the swing begins to return, birdie chances appear, and a scrappy start turns into a decent round. Along the way, Steve and Andy unpack the value of persistence, the importance of preparation, why stretching might be the most underrated part of golf, and whether a new putter fitting could finally be on the horizon. Plus, another original Golf Rock anthem makes its debut as the pilgrims continue their quest for middle-aged sporting glory. In this episode: The danger of an unexpected pre-round delay A short-game breakthrough discovered on the practice green The 42-metre shank that somehow worked out perfectly Why grinding beats giving up when your swing isn't there Lessons from a round that could have gone sideways Lab putters, fittings and the search for putting answers Another Golf Rock world premiere Sometimes the best rounds aren't the ones where everything clicks—they're the ones where you refuse to quit when it doesn't. 16. Ep. 124 Golf, Survival & the Search for Scratch (with Matt Woodbridge) from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    May 26, 20261 hr 25 min

Send us Fan Mail This week on The Missing Links Golf Show , Steve and Andy are joined in person by fellow pilgrim and yearly championship leader Matt Woodbridge for one of the most honest and fascinating golf conversations the boys have had yet. Matt shares his journey through junior golf in Dubbo, growing up alongside a crop of elite young players, learning the game through creativity rather than coaching, and battling through multiple life-threatening accidents that repeatedly dragged him away from sport — only for golf to pull him back in again. The boys unpack: Why comparing yourself to other golfers can destroy confidence How elite junior golf can both motivate and intimidate The hidden value of mentors, mates and golf club culture Why the best golf often happens when you stop overthinking The mental crash that can happen during a championship round What middle-aged golfers can realistically do to stay competitive Why family support matters more than any swing tip There’s also: April Yearly Championship results A controversial return of the Dice of Truth A ridiculous run of red-hot scores from the pilgrims The continued debate over Tiger vs Jack Stories of club championships, pressure golf and missed opportunities And a reminder that golf might be the cruelest — and most rewarding — game ever invented. A thoughtful, funny and surprisingly deep episode about golf, resilience, identity and why we keep chasing the game long after common sense says we should stop. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the fun by entering The Missing Links Yearly Championship to compete with Steve, Andy and other Pilgrims from all across the world. 17. Ep. 123 The Bomber vs The Short Gamer at Aronimink from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    May 19, 20261 hr 5 min

Send us Fan Mail This week on The Missing Links Golf Show , Steve and Andy dive deep into a fascinating PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club — a venue that has sparked debate about what major championship golf should actually look like. Did the course expose the limits of “bomb and gouge” golf? Or did it finally reward strategy, precision and proper course management? The boys unpack: Why Aronimink divided opinion among players and fans Whether modern majors rely too heavily on distance The growing questions around golf ball rollback Jon Rahm’s return to serious major contention Why Brooks Koepka suddenly looks dangerous again Cam Smith’s surprising resurgence Bryson DeChambeau’s current crossroads Scottie Scheffler’s rare putting struggles Justin Rose continuing to prove class is permanent And of course, there’s plenty of discussion about unlikely major champion Aaron Rai — the two-gloved grinder whose humility, work ethic and precision golf won over just about everybody watching. Steve and Andy also explore: Why Aaron Rai’s upbringing and training philosophy are so compelling The value of learning to score on shorter golf courses What strokes gained data really tells us about winning majors Why ball striking still rules elite golf Plus, the Pilgrims get another original Missing Links rock anthem to close out the show: “The Bomber & The Short Gamer.” Because apparently the world now needs a golf rock album. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the fun by entering The Missing Links Yearly Championship to compete with Steve, Andy and other Pilgrims from all across the world. May 12, 20261 hr 9 min

Send us Fan Mail After the emotional fallout from Duntryleague, Steve and Andy hit reset. This week on The Missing Links Golf Show , the boys unpack a huge question facing every time-poor golfer: Are we spending too much time practicing golf swing… and not enough time actually playing golf? Andy dives deep into the rabbit hole of technical swing changes inspired by Adam Scott, bowed wrists, shallowing moves and YouTube swing theories — before a brutally honest conversation with a former touring pro forces him to rethink everything. Meanwhile, Steve explores the balance between technical practice and actually learning how to score, compete, manage pressure and play the game. The episode covers: Why “playing golf” and “playing golf swing” are very different things The hidden dangers of endless technical practice How limited practice time changes the improvement equation Why scoring, decision-making and pressure matter more than perfect mechanics Practice games that actually translate to better golf The value of playing from forward tees Using practice rounds to improve mental game skills Why purpose matters every time you tee it up It’s one of the most honest and practical conversations the boys have had about improvement, expectations and finding a sustainable path forward as mid-life golfers chasing better golf. 19. Ep. 121 Rocked at Duntry, Still Rocking on! from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    May 5, 20261 hr 11 min

Send us Fan Mail The Duntryleague Senior Open didn’t exactly deliver the middle-aged sporting glory Steve and Andy had envisioned. After months of preparation, the boys fronted up… and copped a brutal reminder that tournament golf doesn’t care about expectations. Steve opens with the tale of a nightmare first hole that set the tone for a long 36 holes of grinding, soul-searching and some hard truths about where his game really sits right now. Andy reflects on a ball-striking display that showed real promise — only for the putter to launch a full-scale mutiny. There’s honest discussion about performance under pressure, inflated expectations, whether more tournament golf is the answer, and what happens when the dream of middle-aged sporting glory runs headfirst into reality. 20. Ep. 120 Middle-Aged Golfers, Peak Confusion from The Missing Links Golf Show, opens in a new tab

    Apr 22, 20261 hr 9 min

Send us Fan Mail Steve and Andy are back with something rare… their own golf to talk about—and plenty of it. This episode is a deep dive into the messy middle of improvement. The kind where things are clearly getting better… but not quite showing up on the scorecard yet. Steve shares a solid medal round built on consistency (no doubles), better putting, and a breakthrough with the driver—thanks to a simple grip adjustment that changed everything. It’s the clearest “path forward” he’s seen in a while… even if the short game still has other ideas. Andy’s game is trending too, with elite ball striking showing up in patches—including one of the best long iron shots he’s hit in years. But when the pressure dial turned up, so did an old enemy: the snap hook. The result? A round that proves the game is there… just not fully under control yet. There’s also: A near-miss in a two-ball Ambrose (decided by a lip-out… of course) A reminder that good golf doesn’t always mean low scores Honest reflections on technical flaws vs mental performance And a look ahead to Steve’s senior amateur debut at Duntry This is golf improvement in real time—progress, frustration, and just enough hope to keep you coming back. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the fun by entering The Missing Links Yearly Championship to compete with Steve, Andy and other Pilgrims from all across the world.
