  1. HYROX 💩 and Hardrock Qualifiers from The Next Aid Station, opens in a new tab

    Sep 15, 20261 hr 20 min

This week, we’re talking about one of the wildest HYROX stories imaginable: an athlete sh*tting herself mid-race and somehow continuing on. From there, we dive into the surprisingly small number of races that can qualify you for Hardrock 100, what it actually takes for a race to become a Hardrock qualifier, and why the qualification system is so selective. Plus, Wasatch 100, race tracking, DC Peaks, and plenty of September 100-mile race talk. Join our Fantasy Freetrail League . Sep 10, 20261 hr 9 min

This week, Jake recaps the Dark Divide 100—a brutally remote race where just about everything that could go wrong seemed to go wrong. From questionable navigation and extra miles to gear failures, brutal weather, and a late-race crash, it was anything but a straightforward 100-mile finish. The guys also break down the surprisingly runnable Dark Divide course, look ahead to Wasatch 100, and get into the annual debate over who deserves to be Trail Runner of the Year. Sep 2, 20262 hr 40 min

This week, the guys recap UTMB, debate just how much UTMB coverage is too much , and ask the question everyone apparently has an opinion on: who is actually the best female trail runner in the world? Rachel’s monster season gets put up against some serious competition. They also discuss the surprising cancellation of the Revel Mount Charleston Marathon—with the race called off seven months out and organizers reportedly keeping registration fees—and dig into what that says about the business of putting on races. 5. Aaron Kubala is Chasing Down Kilian, and Hardrock's New Transgender Policy from The Next Aid Station, opens in a new tab

    Aug 19, 20262 hr 5 min

This week, Jake and Mick sit down with Aaron Kubala , who's in the middle of an incredible run at the Triple Crown of 200s—and chasing a record that could put his name alongside one of the biggest names in ultrarunning. But before he can get to Moab, Aaron had to survive Bigfoot 200, where a bizarre situation with his pacer resulted in a three-hour penalty . Aaron walks the guys through exactly what happened, how he handled losing three hours deep into a 200-mile race, and why he still believes the Triple Crown record is within reach. The guys also discuss the growing debate around Hardrock's transgender and non-binary participation policy , what the policy actually says, and some of the questions it raises for ultrarunning as the sport continues to evolve. Plus, plenty of discussion about the Triple Crown, 200-mile racing, and what it takes to chase records at the absolute limits of the sport. Join our Fantasy Freetrail League . Aug 6, 20261 hr 10 min

Badwater, bib transfers, race rules, live tracking, and the questionable state of trail running media—this week, Jake and Mick have plenty to argue about. They break down Badwater 135 and debate whether some of the sport's biggest races are getting too complicated, whether runners should be able to freely transfer race entries, and whether live tracking and constant updates actually make races better. They also dive into the growing European trail scene, try to figure out what race they're even talking about, and discuss the mysterious listeners who apparently refuse to publicly acknowledge that they listen to the podcast. Jul 22, 20261 hr 40 min

Jake and Mick recap a chaotic week in trail running, including the aftermath of Jake's DC Peaks 100-mile DNF. After looking back at the race, Jake thinks he may have finally figured out exactly what went wrong: a combination of heat, hydration, and a fueling plan that didn't quite work the way he thought it would. The guys break down the math behind ultra fueling, discuss how even experienced runners can make basic mistakes, and talk about what they would do differently next time. They also dive into a new 200-mile race, the challenges of training for 40,000 feet of climbing, the future of trail running, and plenty of other questionable topics along the way. 20. Cocodona 250 Recap | Dirt Naps, Cooked Quads, and a 73 Hour Finish! from The Next Aid Station, opens in a new tab

    May 15, 20261 hr 39 min

This episode of The Next Aid Station picks up just after Jake survived Cocodona 250 in a little over 73 hours, finishing 14th male and looking like a man who had legally died sometime around mile 130. Jake and Mick unpack the chaos of race week, the crowds, and the live-stream madness. The boys also dive into the week’s biggest trail running drama: Sage Canaday vs. “that hybrid athlete influencer who likes bow hunting,” Francesco Puppi declaring 200-milers “not real trail running,” and the unofficial finisher controversy that had ultra runners debating whether one minute past cutoff means you ran 250 miles… or apparently didn’t. Somewhere in the middle of all that are dirt naps, blown quads at mile 40, fence ladders from hell, emergency hot dogs used as recovery science, and Jamil Coury appearing over sleeping runners at aid stations like a trail-running guardian angel. It’s part race recap, part group therapy, and part evidence that ultrarunners should probably be supervised.
