While going through Dad's massive library, Nick came across an old book by W. B. Godbey describing what he called "the devil's ladder"—a progression from doubt to discouragement, despondency and despair. That discovery led us into a conversation about the thoughts that tear us down, spiritual warfare, grief, and what remains of the people we love after they're gone.
