The musicians of Viridian Strings previewed this weekend's recitals of piano quartets by Johannes Brahms and Robert Schumann in front of a live studio audience. Co-founders Joe Skerik (viola) and Kyle Stachnik (cello) are performing with violinist Claire Wells and pianist Umi Garrett. They'll also appear in Classical IPR's Happy Hour at the Little Fleet and co-host a World Youth Symphony Orchestra broadcast.

Five high school Interlochen Arts Camp brass musicians joined together this summer to form the Daisy Quintet. The group consists of Alexander Flores, trumpet 1, Nolan Grosse, trumpet 2, Nicolas Moen, horn, Garrett Howell, trombone and Ben Posner, tuba. This quintet played together for the first three weeks of camp this summer. Although this was their final performance as a quintet, they'll continue playing together in the World Youth Symphony Orchestra for the remaining three weeks of camp. They played this final performance as a quintet for a live audience in IPR's Studio A and spoke with Classical IPR about what you NEVER bring into a practice room.

Jamie Robinson, Nancy Giffels, Jennifer Wesling, Tom Wright, Jean Callum, Marlene Robinson and Paula Herbart recently visited IPR's Studio A. They're members of the Traverse City Philharmonic's Act 2 Band, a group for adults with little to no prior musical experience who are interested in learning how to play a band instrument. Some of the musicians are returning to instruments they played in high school after years away, and others are picking up different instruments than what they played in high school. But some of them had never played an instrument before this year. Each of these musicians has deep ties to Interlochen, and they have a combined 116 summers working at Interlochen Arts Camp. That's why they decided to learn how to play the Interlochen Theme together, and they played it in Studio A.

Classical IPR welcomes award-winning Sound Garden Project artists Cerus Quartet to Studio A.

Every time the ensemble known as Viridian Strings performs in northern Michigan, they have a slightly different configuration. Violinist Nathan Meltzer, double bassist Nina Bernat and pianist Umi Garrett are joining Viridian Strings founders Joe Skerik (viola) and Kyle Stachnik (cello) for a series of recitals in northern Michigan this week. The musicians visited IPR's Studio A to perform movements from quintets by Franz Schubert and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Diana Wyenn is the creative director for Interlochen's Imagine US: Celebrating America at 250 tour. Wyenn recently spoke with Classical IPR about her vision for the upcoming Imagine US: Celebrating America at 250 tour and how the program is bringing together all of Interlochen's arts areas to celebrate the past, present and future of the United States. The tour program includes the premiere of a new cello concerto, composed by Wynton Marsalis. The students are also performing the Symphony no. 4 by Charles Ives and RE|Member, a work by Reena Esmail. All of these pieces are woven together with multidisciplinary elements, presented by students called "devisors." In her role as creative director for the tour, Wyenn helped shape the program and worked with Interlochen Arts Academy students to create the multidisciplinary content linking the pieces of music.
