Edouard Bard est professeur titulaire de la chaire Évolution du climat et de l'océan du Collège de France et son laboratoire est situé à Aix-en-Provence (CEREGE, UMR Aix-Marseille Université, CNRS, IRD, INRAE, Collège de France). Ingénieur-géologue de l'ENSG de Nancy, il prépare sa thèse au CEA de Gif-sur-Yvette et soutient son doctorat en 1987 à l'université Paris-Saclay. Il effectue ensuite ses recherches au Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory de l'université Columbia à New York (Postdoctoral Fellow puis Associate Research Scientist). Il revient en France en 1990, d'abord au CEA de Gif-sur-Yvette puis commence à enseigner en 1991 comme professeur à l'université d'Aix-Marseille et au Collège de France depuis 2001.
