The heart of the world was broken on August 25, 2026 when the news came out that legendary singer, musician, songwriter, actor, businesswoman and philanthropist Dolly Parton passed away. Dolly was as close to a universally-loved artist as you'll ever find. We are joined in the studio this week by Emmy Award-winning Good Day Atlanta feature reporter Paul Milliken, who met and interviewed Dolly numerous times over the years, to remember the icon. We talk about how her Appalachian upbringing influenced her life and career, the impact of her music, her film career, her extraordinary efforts as a humanitarian, and more. The animated film Heavy Metal, based on the adult sci-fi fantasy comic magazine of the same name, was released 45 years ago on August 7, 1981, and while it wasn't a big box office smash, it became a cult classic and (at the time) something of a rite of passage. The iconic soundtrack featured great songs by Black Sabbath, Blue Öyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Journey, Don Felder, Devo, Stevie Nicks, Grand Funk Railroad, and others. This was a hugely important film for me in the fall after my graduation from high school, and on this week's show, I'll play for you some of my favorite tunes from the album and tell you the stories behind them. MTV 45th Anniversary MTV launched 45 years ago on August 1, 1981 with "Video Killed the Radio Star." To celebrate this big anniversary, we spend time reminiscing about the glory days of Music Television by talking about our favorite music videos -- and a few of our least favorites. We mention some of the obvious big hits, like "Take on Me", "Sledgehammer", "Thriller", and "Rio", but we also hit a lot of deep cuts. Most of those deep cuts come from MTV's long-running show 120 Minutes, a show we all loved. We talk about some of the artists that MTV introduced us to as well as some legacy bands and artists that were forced to make the transition into the video era.
