On today's podcast, we're joined by Joanna Lockhart to talk about the highs, lows and unexpected twists of her confidence journey with her horse, Laila. At 48, Jo inherited the ride on Laila from her daughter, despite having barely ridden since she was a teenager. What followed was a journey that tested her confidence, resilience and determination in ways she never expected. From taking 20 minutes just to get on, to hiding around the back of the stables because she felt embarrassed by her lack of skills and experience, Jo knows all too well what it feels like to lose confidence in the saddle. A turning point came at Confidence Camp, where Jo discovered something incredibly important: she wasn't the only one. Being surrounded by other riders experiencing the same fears and frustrations helped her realise that confidence isn't about being fearless – and that progress doesn't always happen in a straight line. Fast forward a few years and, after plenty of progress, Jo experienced a setback when she fractured her back. Yet what could have felt like another blow to her confidence ultimately helped lay some of the most important foundations for her relationship with Laila. In this honest and inspiring conversation, Jo reflects on the moments when she wanted to give up, the setbacks that changed her perspective, and how she went from simply trying to get on her horse to genuinely enjoying their time together. It's a brilliant reminder that confidence isn't about becoming a different rider – it's about finding your own way forward, one step at a time, with a big smile on your face.
On today's podcast , Liz Daniels is excited to be joined by Alec Lochore with his Scone Palace International Horse Trials hat on. Alec is the Event Director of the Scone Palace International Horse Trials, and one of the world's leading course designers, with experience spanning Olympic Games, World Championships and major international events. Alec gives us a sneak peek behind the scenes, revealing his favourite fences, the best views on the course, and how the course is designed to be ridden. On today's episode, Liz Daniels chats to leadership coach and organisation development practitioner, Amy Martin, as she shares her experiences on women's health and understanding the impact that your cycle and hormones have on life, both in and out of the saddle. From tracking your cycle, to understanding where those confidence dips can come from, Amy shares how her own research has positively impacted her life, and how you can reduce the challenging Autumn days. Remember - c onfidence is transient, just because you have a day with low confidence, doesn't mean the next day will be the same. You can find out more about Amy at Magnolia Coaching. On this week's light-hearted podcast, Equiteam's Liz Daniels and Lou Gillings go way off-piste as they share the most ridiculous things they have done because the other one said it would be a good idea, travelling for 36 hours straight, what would be on their dating profile if the other one had to write it, and who is most likely to be late (no shock statements for that one!).
If you're anything like us, then you prioritise your horse and their needs, but investing in yourself financially always seems to fall way off the to-do list, and the mere mention of pensions sends us running for the stables. In this episode, Equiteam's Liz Daniels is joined by the lovely Ruth Downs, Founder of Truth Financial, with the remit – please can you make finances accessible and sexy! Ruth manages to do just that, as she passionately shares some basic tips for budgeting, emergency funds, and pensions, without cutting back on enjoying life. Following on from last week's podcast with the daunting fact that on average you have 4,000 weeks (if you are lucky and live to 80), combined with lots of chat in the Equiteam Connected group, Equiteam's Lou Gillings set about researching different goal setting methods, which she used for the base of her blog 'How hard are you willing to work'. Lou explored different methods outside the traditional SMART goal comfort zone and came across WOOP and ACID goal setting which spiked her interest as it got her thinking about the possible obstacles, and also how much she really wanted her goals. Join Liz and Lou for an easy flowing chat:
Sometimes you get those emails that make you stop and think, and when the Art of Brilliance email: Busy, busy, busy, busy, busy… Dead popped into Liz's inbox; she couldn't help but click the link. The average lifespan is 4,000 weeks, and clicking the link calculates how long you've been on the planet – and how long you have left (on average). It shares how many birthdays you might have, how many springs and how many beach days… all very thought-provoking, and a little bit scary! Join Equiteam's Liz Daniels and Louise Gillings for a catch up and a reminder to have some fun. In this episode, Liz Daniels is joined by Jo Williams, older sister of the late Georgie Campbell and a trustee of the Georgie Campbell Foundation. The tragic loss of Georgie rocked the equestrian community to the core, and after Georgie's public memorial, the foundation was created with two missions in mind; to improve horse and rider safety by reducing the risk of rotational falls; and, secondly, to provide riders with early-stage eventing businesses through the provision of mentoring, educational training, and bursary support. Jo shares how the sisters grew up surrounded by ponies on the farm, and Jo being annoyed that Georgie could do rising trot before her – to the formation of the foundation, and the story behind the Hi Ho Silver Twig jewelry. Listen to the podcast and find out how you can get involved in supporting Georgie's legacy to make positive change in the sport. Website: https://georgiecampbellfoundation.org.uk/

Equiteam's Liz Daniels is joined by the brilliantly inspiring Flo Dawes , a member of the Hawkstone Farmers Choir , whose unforgettable debut on Britain's Got Talent had audiences across the UK reaching for the tissues. Accomplished equestrian Flo, shares more about her day job as a professional dressage rider alongside running a livery yard, Nupdown Equestrian, in Bristol, and how answering an advert on Facebook for singing farmers has changed her life. What began as a simple audition to promote Jeremy Clarkson 's Hawkstone lager quickly grew into something far bigger, attracting hundreds of applicants and shining a light on the incredible, often hidden talent within rural communities. Flo shares the choir's journey from meeting Jeremy and Caleb Cooper, to stepping out on a National platform to sing live for the first time in years, and receiving the golden buzzer from Amanda Holden for their powerful rendition of Elbow's One Day. It's not very often that we allow ourselves to feel proud, or to set out to a big competition with a goal, only then move the goal posts in the heat of the moment - which leaves a taste of disappointment. Equiteam's Liz Daniels and Louise Gillings reflect on a week of British Dressage Winter Champs as they explore the feelings of overwhelm, lying awake in the middle of the night trying to remember how big a 15m circle is- and why community is the most important thing of all.
On today's episode, Liz Daniels is delighted to be joined by Melanie Crouch from Great Horse Products to chat about her 40-year horse owning journey and the inspiration that led her to develop her own products. Having encountered various equine skin related challenges, Melanie was struggling to find something that really worked. After 18 months, Mel realised that she had an oil based product that not only worked, but could also promote healthy skin, but a failed attempt at marketing it meant it sat back on the shelf and only used for her own horses. After an angel card reading, Mel took the £100 left from her business account and decided to spend it on Facebook marketing – and the rest is history. With the development of additional skin based products, Mel oozes passion as someone who wants to make a difference. https://greathorseproducts.co.uk/
