  1. The Oilers sign Alex Formenton and the reaction was exactly as expected from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    Sep 9, 202636 min

It's been another boring week around here with the Oilers and NHL at large still right in the middle of the off-season dead zone, but I've still got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready what little has happened anyway. On today’s podcast, I discussed some Oilers signing Alex Formenton, the boys are back in town, training camp, and more. Needless to say, it's been a busy week around here. I kicked off this week's episode with a look at Alex Formenton after the Oilers announced this morning that they had signed the former Ottawa Senator to a one-year contract. Needless to say, given Formenton's history, the news was not exactly well received by large chunks of the fanbase. Of course, the Oilers have a history of giving players their second chance, so this isn't exactly a new approach for the franchise. The bigger question will be whether or not a guy who scored only 23 points in the Swiss League last year will even be worth the hassle. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a lively round of voicemails that were all over the map, and complete with an array of different topics. Finally, I capped things off with another please for you to join us on the upcoming Nation Vacation to Toronto, and also that you grab your tickets to the RIPNation event at the Pint on September 26th. It's going to be a night of stories, memories, and laughs, and I'd love for all of you to be there with us. Want to leave a voicemail for next week’s show? Wednesday means another episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to massage your eardrums. 3. The Oilers' injury concerns come early from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    Aug 26, 202634 min

It's been another boring week around here with the Oilers and NHL at large still right in the middle of the off-season dead zone, but I've still got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready what little has happened anyway. On today’s podcast, I discussed some Oilers injury news, new jersey numbers, the Nation Golf Tournament, and more. Needless to say, it's been a busy week around here. I kicked off this week's episode with a recap of what is sure to be a very exciting week around here, as the Nation Golf Tournament kicks off at Millwoods Golf Course on Friday morning in support of Gregor's Grads. The golf tourney is always one of my favourite days on the calendar, and this year's edition will be no different. Turning the podcast to the Oilers, the team announced that some key players are going to miss training camp next month, which is definitely not the news we were hoping to hear. Some of us were thinking trade. Some were thinking PTOs. But injury news in August? That was not on the agenda, people. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating about Edmonton drivers not knowing how to drive. Whether it's construction issues being a mainstay or complaining about fella motorists, the weekly RSB is the spot to vent your frustrations until Festivus rolls back around in December. Finally, I wrapped up the show with a quick teaser for an upcoming Nation Vacation that we'll be launching soon, and gave my pitch on why I think you should join us. 4. Give me some Oilers news please from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    Aug 19, 202652 min

e still right in the middle of the off-season dead zone, but I've still got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready what little has happened anyway. On today’s podcast, I discussed Connor McDavid's EA Sports ranking, the whining about it online, the Blue Jays being fun, and more. Needless to say, it's been a busy week around here. I kicked off this week's episode with a recap of the only thing we can talk about this summer: reality dating shows. Since there is basically nothing happening for the Oilers or around the NHL, I have all the time in the world to sit and watch the trashiest shows on TV because I'm an adult and no one can stop me. Less embarrassingly, I've also spent a bunch of time watching the Blue Jays try and force their way back into the playoff picture. And after the run they've had lately, it's basically impossible to not jump on that bandwagon again. Even if you've been watching the whole time, this team is playing a fun flavour of baseball right now. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a little bit of Elks talk before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was weird this week since I haven't done it in a while, but I still had a great time hearing everyone's thoughts on whatever it is that you wanted to talk about. The voicemail is the best way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. 6. Rain, TV, and checking in from the Oilers summer dead zone from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    Jul 29, 202637 min

This week, I wanted to jump on quickly to recap everything that's been happening with the Oilers over the last couple of weeks — nothing is the answer — while also giving some updates that have been going on at Nation HQ. Given that we're in the midst of holiday season right now, finding sports topics to talk about isn't exactly the easiest exercise when you're podcasting by yourself. 💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/himynameisbaggedmilk/ Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/jsbmbaggedmilk SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!! 👍🏼 Sports Interaction: https://www.sportsinteraction.com/oilersnation Hosted on Acast. England lost to Argentina in the World Cup semi finals, and I brought Woz onto the podcast to help make sense of it all. 8. The Oilers Free Agency Recap Episode w/ Zach Laing from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    Jul 2, 202652 min

I jumped into the studio with Zach Laing to recap everything the Oilers got done on day 1 of NHL free agency. And after losing yesterday's attempt at the podcast, the boys ended up actually having more to talk about than they did yesterday. From getting a pair of new goalies to trading Darnell Nurse, Stan Bowman was able to get a bunch of work done without breaking the bank on any of it. And for a fanbase who has been hurt more than once in free agency over the last few years, it’s hard not to feel as though the organization absolutely nailed this one. 💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/himynameisbaggedmilk/ Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/jsbmbaggedmilk SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!! 👍🏼 Sports Interaction: https://www.sportsinteraction.com/oilersnation Hosted on Acast. 13. The Oilers want Mike Babcock, but the NHLPA wants its investigation first from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    Jun 10, 20261 hr 4 min

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Stanley Cup Final, the Oilers' plan to hire Mike Babcock, the NHLPA asking for an investigation, and more. Needless to say, it's been a busy week around here. I kicked off this week's episode with a run-through of what's been happening in the Stanley Cup Final and how I really haven't watched more than a few minutes of it. I know everyone keeps saying that this Final has been electric, and the scores certainly suggest that to be true, but I'm still over here holding a grudge about how Edmonton's season ended. Though that grudge isn't exactly softening after the news came out this week that the Oilers are looking at Mike Babcock to be their solution behind the bench. Given Babcock's sketchy past and lack of success in nearly two decades, I think it's fair to say that many Oilers fans were less than thrilled about the idea. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about my off-season peace before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was alive this week, and I had a great time hearing everyone's thoughts on whatever you wanted to talk about. The voicemail is the best way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. 14. Waiting for Oilers news, and a nightmarish Stanley Cup matchup from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    Jun 3, 202642 min

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Stanley Cup Final, coaching candidates, summer TV binging, and more. Needless to say, we're in full offseason mode around here. I kicked off this week's episode with a run-through of the Stanley Cup Final and how this could be a nightmare final pairing if you're a grudge keeper like me. Not only do I despite the Golden Knights as a divisional rival, but I've also hated the Carolina Hurricanes since they beat the Oilers back in 2006. How does one choose between two awful outcomes? It's impossible, I say. From there, I looked at the latest news surrounding the Edmonton Oilers. Despite these being quiet days ahead of silly szn kicking off for the draft and free agency, there are some major decisions ahead for our beloved franchise, and that meant there's always something to talk about even if not much is happening. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quieter this week, but even so, I still had a great time hearing everyone's thoughts on whatever you wanted to talk about. 15. No news on the Oilers' coaching front, and the very annoying NHL playoffs from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    May 27, 202656 min

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Oilers' coaching Plan Bs, Vegas getting through to the Stanley Cup, Habs vs. Hurricanes, and more. Needless to say, we're in full offseason mode around here. I kicked off this week's episode with a quick recap of my trip to Toronto and how wild it is to be an Oilers fan in other cities across the country. Regardless of the mess going on in their own market, all anyone ever wants to talk about is what's going on in Edmonton. I also looked at the Oilers' current coach stalemate and how the guy they want, Bruce Cassidy, is still being tied up by the Vegas Golden Knights. But with Vegas off to the Stanley Cup Final, it sure doesn't seem like Edmonton is going to get an answer on their man any time soon. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before closing out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was quiet again this week, but even so, I still had a wonderful time with everyone's takes on whatever you wanted to talk about. 16. The Oilers coaching conundrum takes a turn from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    May 13, 20261 hr 2 min

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Oilers' coaching debacle, Vegas' gamesmanship, pressure on the management group, and more. Needless to say, it's been a busy week around here. I kicked off this week's episode with a quick recap of the Oilers' coaching drama that kicked off after Frank Seravalli broke the story that Edmonton reached out to Vegas for an interview with Bruce Cassidy . While it absolutely makes sense that the Oilers would do their due diligence before making a change behind the bench, the fact that the news broke before they gassed Kris Knoblauch certainly didn't look good. Either way, the Oilers' most important summer in ages started off a little rocky, and it's going to be fascinating to see how and if they can pull themselves out of this tailspin. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating, then closed out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was alive again this week, and, as always, I had a wonderful time with everyone's takes on whatever you wanted to talk about. 17. A long Oilers offseason, pressure on Stan Bowman, and the NHL draft lottery from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    May 6, 20261 hr 9 min

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Oilers getting bumped from the playoffs, a long summer ahead, pressure on Stan Bowman, and more. I kicked off this week's episode with a quick recap of what's been happening since the Oilers got knocked out in Round 1 of the NHL playoffs. With the exit interviews now behind us, the thing that stuck out to me the most was how honest the leadership group was with their assessment. Both Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid gave incredibly honest feedback on where the team is, their concerns, and the timelines Stan Bowman has to turn this thing around. Needless to say, the pressure on the Oilers' management to get this right is as high today as it's likely ever been. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a pair of guest Righteous Sack Beatings, then closed out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was alive this week after the playoff exit, and I had a great time with everyone's takes on whatever you wanted to talk about. 18. Can the Oilers push this series to Game 7? from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    Apr 29, 202657 min

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Oilers' Game 5 win over the Ducks, what needs to happen in Game 6, the star players stepping up, and more. I kicked off this week's episode with a quick recap of Game 5 between the Oilers and Ducks after our boys found themselves on the ropes in an elimination game. With Edmonton's win pushing the series to at least six games, there are plenty of good things to carry over, but it was also impossible to ignore how much they sat back and let the Ducks push for the comeback. If the Oilers are going to win on the road to drag this series back to Berta, they'll need to keep the pedal to the floor a whole lot more than they did. That is, of course, unless they can just figure out how to kick another field goal in the first period again. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about protecting star players before closing out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was alive this week, and I had a great time with everyone's takes on whatever you wanted to talk about. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. 19. The Oilers can put the Ducks on the ropes with a Game 2 win from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    Apr 22, 20261 hr 10 min

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Oilers' Game 1 win over the Ducks, Jason Dickinson's brilliant night, Kasperi Kapanen's game-winner, and more. I kicked off this week's episode with a quick recap of Game 1 between the Oilers and Ducks after I found my way into the building despite not really thinking I'd go. As excited as I was about the playoffs being back, I was also nervous about the Oilers bucking the trend we've seen in series openers over the last few years. And while we ultimately got the result we wanted, getting that win was not without challenges . The good news is that the Oilers overcame the adversity they created for themselves, completing a third-period comeback to cash in on Game 1. Needless to say, I'd like to see the boys be a little tighter with the puck as the series rolls along. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before closing out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was much more lively this week, and I had a great time with everyone's takes on whatever you wanted to talk about. 20. One more Oilers game left before showtime from Better Lait Than Never, opens in a new tab

    Apr 15, 202653 min

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today’s podcast, I discussed the Oilers' potential playoff opponents, injury updates, Connor McDavid's willingness to carry this team forward, and more. I kicked off this week's episode with a look at the renewed beef between Chris Pronger and Kevin Lowe after the former's new book came out and shed some light on what went sideways in Edmonton. If you take Pronger at his word , the decision was made solely on trying to keep peace in his family. From Kevin Lowe's standpoint, however, his description of those events didn't really hold water. Changing gears, I looked ahead at the Oilers' playoff position and how wild it is that we still don't know who Edmonton will play or where they'll start, with only a single game left on the schedule. Combine that uncertainty with the unknowns of when some key players will be back in the lineup, and you've got the makings of a very nervous fanbase around here. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about fake spring before closing out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was very quiet this week, but I had a great time with everyone's takes landing all over the place. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode.
