Should you be charging for financial planning—and if so, how much? For many advisors, the idea of charging directly for their advice brings up a whole lot of questions (and maybe a little head trash). In this episode, I’m joined by Jacqueline Bradley and Ben from MindShift Financial Coaching to unpack what it actually looks like to move from “working for hope” to confidently charging for the value you provide. We’re talking pricing, positioning, separating planning from AUM, communicating your value, and even how to approach existing clients when you’ve been providing planning for free. In this episode you will learn: How to determine what to charge for financial planning without overcomplicating your pricing. How to clearly separate financial planning from investment management and other transactional services. How to communicate your planning charge with confidence and position the value beyond the financial plan itself. How to begin introducing planning charges to prospects and existing clients without changing your entire business model overnight. If charging for financial planning has been on your mind, this episode will give you practical language, a new way to think about your value, and some simple first steps to get started. And if you’re ready for more support, MindShift Financial Coaching offers both a self-paced Financial Planning School and a live cohort beginning October 21st. Efficient Advisor listeners can receive 10% off either option—head to the show notes or visit the Resources page at theefficientadvisor.com for all the details. What should financial advisors charge? Too often, advisors answer that question by looking around at what everyone else is charging and picking a number that feels safe. But your clients aren’t paying for the number of hours you spend creating a financial plan or the number of meetings on your calendar. They’re paying for the years of experience, expertise, and pattern recognition that allow you to help them make better decisions, avoid costly mistakes, and move forward with confidence. In this episode, we’re breaking down how to think differently about pricing your advice—and how to determine whether your fees actually reflect the value you create. In this episode you will learn: Why pricing based on what other advisors charge can lead you to undervalue your expertise. How to separate the one-time value of financial planning from the ongoing value you provide. Why you shouldn’t immediately lower your price when a prospect pushes back on your fee. A simple exercise to evaluate whether your current fees reflect the value you create for clients. Your clients aren’t paying for how many hours it takes you to do the work. They’re paying for what your experience, expertise, and time make possible. Take a look at the last five clients you onboarded, identify the value you created and the costly mistakes you helped them avoid, and then ask yourself one important question: Does my fee actually reflect that value? We spend a lot of time talking about how to simplify, systematize, automate, and streamline our businesses—but what about our lives outside of work? After sharing that I recently flew my family to South Africa and back in upgraded seats for mostly free, I got flooded with questions about how I had accumulated so many miles. The answer isn’t complicated travel hacking or a spreadsheet filled with credit cards. In this episode, I’m sharing my “easy button” approach to free travel: a simple, mostly automated system that helps me earn points, score travel perks, and save money without turning any of it into another job. In this episode you will learn: How I use SkyKey to automatically find lower fares and get money or miles back after I’ve already booked a flight. My simple strategy for using companion passes and credit card spending to cover more of my family’s flights. How I “double dip” with Uber, SkyMiles Dining, shopping portals, and everyday spending to earn points with minimal effort. How I keep my entire system simple by giving each credit card a specific job for business expenses, personal spending, and travel. This episode isn’t about perfectly optimizing every point or becoming a travel-hacking expert. It’s about finding your version of the 80/20—using simple systems and automation to get more of the benefits you want without adding more work to your life. Whether your preferred combination is Delta and Marriott or completely different airlines and hotels, the goal is the same: find what works, keep it simple, and use the margin you’ve worked so hard to create to actually enjoy your life. Some of the best efficiency wins in your practice aren’t massive system overhauls—they’re the small decisions you find yourself making over and over again. In this episode, I’m sharing one incredibly simple process I used in my own advisory practice to eliminate a recurring interruption, empower my team to make more decisions without me, and ultimately give clients faster service. I’ll walk you through exactly how we created a “first $20,000” distribution strategy for clients, documented it in our CRM, and built a decision tree that helped my team know exactly what to do when a client called needing cash. In this episode you will learn: How to create a simple “first $20,000” distribution strategy for your clients. How to use your CRM to give your team clear direction without needing to involve you. How to build a decision tree that helps your team confidently handle client distribution requests. How to identify recurring questions and small decisions you can systematically remove from your plate. You don’t have to build this process for every client overnight. Start with the clients you’re already meeting with next week, document where you’d recommend they access cash if a need comes up, and build from there. Small systems like this can eliminate interruptions, speed up your client service, and gradually train your team to take ownership of more decisions—freeing you to focus on the bigger strategies and conversations that actually require you. What does it actually look like to build a fast-growing advisory firm without sacrificing the depth of your client relationships? In this episode, I’m sitting down with financial advisor Emily Rassam to take a behind-the-scenes look at the client experience, workflows, and team structure she’s used to build a thriving practice serving approximately 270 families. We dig into how behavioral finance shapes everything from prospect conversations to financial plans, why every meeting in her firm has a defined purpose and process, and how her team delivers a highly personalized experience without relying on traditional client segmentation. In this episode you will learn: How to use behavioral finance questions to identify ideal clients and create deeper financial planning conversations. Why a structured onboarding process can differentiate your firm before a prospect ever becomes a client. How to build a flexible client service model that combines consistent processes with personalized planning. How strong workflows and delegation allow advisors to step away from prep and follow-up without sacrificing the client experience. If you’ve ever wondered how to create a more personalized client experience while still building a practice that can scale, this conversation gives you a look under the hood of a firm doing exactly that. You’ll walk away with practical ideas for structuring your meetings, strengthening your workflows, using your team more effectively, and creating the kind of processes that give you more capacity to focus on the work you do best. There’s one CEO skill that may be quietly capping your success—and it has nothing to do with how smart you are, how many credentials you have, or how good you are at financial planning. It’s your ability to make decisions quickly. In this episode, we’re talking about why advisors tend to overthink business decisions, how that slows your growth, and the simple framework I use to help advisors make decisions faster without being reckless. In this episode you will learn: Why your financial advisor mindset might actually be slowing you down as a CEO. How faster decision-making creates momentum, better judgment, and more confidence over time. The Two-Question Rule for knowing when to make a decision quickly and when to slow down. How to use the 80% Rule to stop waiting for perfect information and finally make the call. You don’t need to make perfect decisions—you need a framework that helps you make more good decisions, learn quickly, and keep moving. I’ll also give you a simple seven-day decision sprint to help you put this into practice and start building your decision-making muscle immediately. If you think AI in your advisory practice means meeting notes, follow-up emails, and asking ChatGPT to write something for you, we need to talk. Because what AI can do inside of an advisory practice has changed dramatically—and I think most of us are still thinking way too small. AI for financial advisors has moved far beyond note-taking, meeting summaries, and drafting follow-up emails. In this episode, I’m joined by Gabe to explore the next evolution: agentic AI and what it looks like when AI stops being another piece of software you have to manage and starts operating more like a digital team member working behind the scenes. We dig into how Quinn has evolved, the difference between traditional AI tools and agentic AI, and the practical ways advisors are using automation to give themselves and their teams back significant time each week. The difference between AI tools and agentic AI What advisors can automate right now How AI can help you “scale thoughtfulness” with clients Where to start before automating your processes The goal isn’t necessarily to replace your team with AI. It’s to stop spending valuable human time hunting down information, entering data, filling out forms, and handling repetitive administrative work so you and your team can focus on the work that actually requires a human. If you’ve been thinking about AI primarily as a note-taker or writing assistant, this conversation will give you a much bigger picture of what’s already possible—and what could be coming next for your advisory practice. In this episode, we're talking about something that might feel a little uncomfortable for advisors who love spreadsheets, checklists, and action plans—but it may be one of the most important conversations you'll have all year. Libby sits down with author, speaker, and former financial advisor Ellen Rogin to explore what abundance really looks like inside an advisory practice. From the way you think about money to the energy you bring into client meetings, Ellen shares how shifting from scarcity to service transformed her career and helped her build a thriving practice rooted in generosity, gratitude, and genuine connection. In this episode you’ll learn: Why abundance isn't just a mindset buzzword—and how it directly impacts referrals, growth, client trust, and business success How to identify scarcity thinking in your practice (even when you don't realize it's there) and replace it with more empowering beliefs The role your own money story plays in how you advise clients, lead your team, and make decisions as a business owner Simple daily habits that can help you create more space, clarity, generosity, and abundance in both your business and personal life If you've ever found yourself chasing the next strategy, comparing yourself to other advisors, or feeling like success is always just out of reach, this episode is your invitation to pause and look inward. Because sometimes the biggest breakthrough isn't another tactic—it's learning how to operate from a place of abundance instead of scarcity. And as Ellen shares, when you focus on helping others win, amazing things tend to happen in return. Connect with Ellen HERE ! Register for the Quin x Efficient Advisor Show & Tell HERE! This episode is a little different. Instead of another tactical strategy or productivity hack, Libby shares three hard truths that may be the very things holding talented financial advisors back from building the business they truly want. Drawing from more than 25 years in the industry, her own experience investing in high-level coaching, and years of working with hundreds of advisors, she challenges listeners to stop searching for more information and start becoming the kind of leaders who consistently execute. If you're ready for an honest conversation about what's really standing in your way, this episode is for you. In this episode, you'll learn: Why your biggest challenge probably isn't a lack of information, but a lack of consistent implementation—and how to finally bridge that gap. The difference between buying information and investing in accountability, proximity, and environments that create lasting transformation. Why many advisors unknowingly try to solve million-dollar business problems with transactional solutions, and what it takes to break that cycle. How shifting your identity from someone who starts to someone who finishes can completely change your business, your leadership, and your results. If you've been feeling stuck despite reading the books, attending the conferences, and buying the courses, this episode offers a refreshing perspective on what actually creates lasting change. Sometimes the next breakthrough isn't found in learning something new—it's found in finally implementing what you already know. Register for the Quin x Efficient Advisor Show & Tell HERE! One of the hardest conversations many financial advisors avoid isn't about investments or markets—it's about their own fees. If you've ever looked at your client list and realized your fee schedule has evolved over the years into something inconsistent, you're not alone. In this very candid conversation, Libby sits down with advisor Todd Lester to discuss how he tackled a firm-wide fee increase after more than 30 years in the business. Todd shares the mindset shifts, compliance considerations, communication strategies, and surprising results that came from finally aligning his fees with the value his firm provides. In this episode, you'll learn: Why inconsistent fee schedules create both compliance concerns and fairness issues across your client base, and how to recognize when it's time to make a change. How Todd delegated fee increase conversations to a trusted team member, why that approach worked so well, and what advisors can learn from using a third-party communicator. The biggest fears advisors have around raising fees, why those fears are often exaggerated, and how clients actually responded when presented with the changes. The remarkable outcome of Todd's fee increase project, including the recurring revenue added to his practice, the clients he retained, and the lessons he'll carry into future pricing decisions. If you've been putting off reviewing your fee schedule because the conversation feels uncomfortable, this episode will give you both the confidence and the practical ideas to move forward. You'll walk away with a fresh perspective on pricing, value, and why charging appropriately isn't just good for your business—it's also part of serving clients fairly and sustainably. I changed my mind on a very common piece of business advice. It's one of the most common messages we hear as entrepreneurs: build a business that runs without you. But what if we've been chasing the wrong goal? In this episode, Libby shares a mindset shift that completely changed the way she thinks about systems, delegation, and business ownership. Drawing on a recent personal experience and an unexpected epiphany, she explores why freedom and absence are not the same thing—and why building a business that allows you to spend more time doing the work you love is a much healthier and more sustainable goal. In this episode, you'll learn: Why "build a business that runs without you" may not be the right goal for most financial advisors—and what to strive for instead. The difference between freedom and absence, and how shifting your perspective can reduce burnout and increase fulfillment. A simple "Freedom Audit" exercise to identify which responsibilities energize you and which ones are holding you back. How to use systems and delegation to protect your energy, operate in your zone of genius, and create a business that supports the life you want. If you've ever felt like your business still depends too much on you, this episode offers a refreshing perspective. Rather than trying to remove yourself from your business entirely, you'll learn how to intentionally design your role so you can spend more time doing the work that only you can do—and that you genuinely enjoy. It's a practical mindset shift that can help you build a business that serves you, instead of one that simply demands more from you. Register for the Quin x Efficient Advisor Show & Tell HERE! You built the process... so why aren't you (or your team) following it? This episode is all about the difference between creating great processes and actually getting your team to follow them. While most advisors spend time documenting workflows, the real challenge is building habits that stick when business gets busy. Libby shares practical strategies for turning systems into your firm's default way of operating, helping advisors reduce mistakes, create consistency, and build a business that can truly scale without relying on constant oversight. In this episode, you'll learn: Why implementation is a completely different skill than process design, and why even great systems fail without consistent execution. Simple ways to help your team build new habits, including creating "pause points," making SOPs easy to access, and eliminating exceptions. How to create a culture that rewards following the process instead of celebrating lucky shortcuts that eventually create more work. Practical leadership strategies for auditing your systems, encouraging team feedback, and building lasting process adoption through repetition and accountability. If you've ever built a process only to watch your team slowly drift back to the old way of doing things, this episode will give you a practical framework for making change stick. Small, consistent improvements—paired with intentional implementation—can transform the way your business operates, creating a smoother experience for both your team and your clients while helping your firm scale with confidence. If you only had 20 minutes to diagnose why your advisory firm feels chaotic, where would you look first? In this episode, Libby walks you through the same rapid-fire audit she uses to identify the biggest operational bottlenecks inside an advisory practice. Instead of focusing on working harder or becoming more disciplined, you'll learn how to quickly pinpoint the systems that are creating unnecessary stress, consuming your time, and keeping you stuck as the bottleneck in your business. By the end of this episode, you'll have a simple framework you can use to perform your own 20-minute operational audit and identify exactly where to focus next. In this episode, you'll learn: The four core systems Libby evaluates first to quickly identify operational bottlenecks inside an advisory practice. How to perform your own 20-minute business audit to uncover where your firm is losing the most time and creating unnecessary stress. The common warning signs that your onboarding, service model, service requests, or internal projects need attention. How to identify the one process improvement that will create the biggest impact instead of trying to fix everything at once. Building a more efficient business doesn't require reinventing your entire practice overnight. It starts with identifying the one system that's creating the biggest drag on your time, energy, and client experience. Take 20 minutes, complete the audit, and commit to improving just one process this quarter. Small, intentional improvements compound into a business that gives you more capacity, more consistency, and ultimately more freedom. Register for the Quin x Efficient Advisor Show & Tell HERE! If you've ever wondered whether Systems to Scale Group Coaching is the right next step for your business, this episode is for you. Libby pulls back the curtain on exactly who the program is designed for, who should wait, and why so many successful advisors eventually realize they don't have a revenue problem—they have a capacity problem. You'll hear the philosophy behind the program, what transformation advisors can expect over the 10-month coaching experience, and answers to many of the most frequently asked questions about how the program works, what the commitment looks like, and what you can expect if you decide to join. In this episode, you'll learn: Why the biggest bottleneck in a growing advisory firm is often the advisor themselves, and how documented systems create more capacity without sacrificing client experience. The three core beliefs that shape the Systems to Scale coaching program and why incremental process improvements outperform trying to overhaul your business all at once. What actually happens during the 10-month group coaching program, including how the live coaching, small accountability pods, templates, office hours, and implementation support work together to help you build lasting systems. Who the program is the best fit for, who should wait before joining, and how to determine whether now is the right time to focus on building the operational foundation for your business. If you've built a successful practice but still feel like everything depends on you, this episode will help you determine whether it's time to stop being the bottleneck and start building a business that can consistently deliver an exceptional client experience without relying on your memory. Whether you decide to join the program now or sometime in the future, you'll walk away with a clearer understanding of what it takes to transition from busy advisor to true CEO. If you've ever looked around your business and thought, "I know I need better systems, but I have no idea where to start," this episode is for you. In today's conversation, Libby shares one of the most impactful exercises from a recent CEO Day with her alumni community—an exercise that gives advisors immediate clarity on where to focus next. Instead of chasing every new idea, you'll learn how to identify the one or two processes that will create the biggest impact in your business over the next 90 days. In this episode, you'll learn: How to assess the eight core processes every advisory firm needs to build a scalable business. A simple five-level framework to evaluate the maturity of each process, from "winging it" to delivering an exceptional client experience. Why incremental improvements consistently outperform trying to overhaul your entire business at once. How to use the Process Assessment Wheel to prioritize the next system or workflow that will create the greatest momentum in your firm. Building a business that runs more efficiently doesn't happen by tackling everything at once. It happens by making intentional improvements one process at a time. This exercise will help you gain clarity, focus your energy where it matters most, and create meaningful progress without feeling overwhelmed. Be sure to download the accompanying worksheet and use it during your next CEO Day to measure your progress and plan your next steps. DOWNLOAD THE ASSESSMENT HERE ! One of the biggest mistakes I see growing advisory firms make is waiting too long to define roles and responsibilities. When your team is small, it's easy for everyone to pitch in wherever needed. But as your firm grows, those blurry lines quickly turn into confusion, duplicated work, bottlenecks, and frustration. In this episode, I share one of the exercises we teach inside our Systems to Scale Group Coaching Program that helps advisors create clear job roles before they become a problem. You'll learn why well-defined roles aren't about creating bureaucracy—they're about giving your team clarity, creating better accountability, making delegation easier, and building a business that's ready to scale. Whether you have one employee or ten, this framework will help you stop building jobs around people and start building a business that can grow intentionally. In this episode, you'll learn: Why every advisory firm needs clearly defined roles and job descriptions long before you think you do. How to identify the core functions of your business and organize responsibilities so everyone knows exactly what they own. The difference between building a role around a person versus hiring the right person for a well-defined role—and why that distinction changes everything as you scale. How creating an organizational chart and role structure today makes delegation, hiring, annual reviews, and future growth dramatically easier. The strongest businesses aren't built by adding more people—they're built by creating clarity. When every person understands their role, how they contribute to the firm's vision, and where opportunities for growth exist, your business becomes easier to lead, easier to scale, and far less dependent on you being involved in everything. It's one of the simplest CEO exercises you can do today that will continue paying dividends as your firm grows. Register for the Quin x Efficient Advisor Show & Tell HERE! Today, I am sharing one simple process that transformed our client experience, helped us stay on schedule, reduced unnecessary follow-up meetings, and ensured we walked into every meeting fully prepared. If you've ever had a client bring up a major planning question with five minutes left on the clock, this system is for you. In this episode, you'll learn: Why sending a meeting agenda two weeks in advance dramatically improves client meetings and positions you as a more prepared, professional advisor. How one simple pre-meeting email uncovers important client questions before they derail your agenda. How this process reduces follow-up meetings, keeps meetings on time, and allows you to prepare thoughtful recommendations in advance. The exact framework you can automate or delegate to create a smoother client experience with very little effort. One of the biggest time-wasters in a financial planning practice happens when important client questions don't surface until the end of the meeting. Instead of trying to cram a complex discussion into the final few minutes—or scheduling another meeting altogether—you can eliminate most of these surprises with one simple email. By sending clients your planned agenda two weeks before their meeting and inviting them to share any additional questions, you'll create a more organized experience, make clients feel heard, and give yourself the time to prepare meaningful answers. It's a small process change that delivers a surprisingly big impact for both your team and your clients. Register for the Quin x Efficient Advisor Show & Tell HERE! If you've ever wondered whether a three-day workweek is actually possible as a financial advisor, this episode is your practical roadmap. In Part 2 of this series, I move beyond the story of how I built my business and dive into exactly what it takes to intentionally reduce your schedule without sacrificing client experience or business growth. From annual planning rhythms to delegation, systems, and CEO thinking, I break down the step-by-step framework I would follow if I were building toward a three-day workweek all over again. In this episode, you'll learn: How to use annual rhythms, model weeks, and time studies to identify where your time is really going and where you can reclaim it. The systems, delegation strategies, and business changes required to successfully reduce your workweek without compromising client service. Why transitioning to a shorter workweek isn't about working faster—it's about becoming a different kind of business owner and CEO. How to thoughtfully bring your team along through change, create buy-in, and build a business that doesn't require you to be constantly available. Building a three-day workweek isn't about working less for the sake of working less. It's about intentionally designing a business that supports the life you want to live. Whether your goal is taking Fridays off, creating more CEO time, or simply feeling less overwhelmed, this episode will help you start building the systems and mindset needed to make it possible—one intentional step at a time. If you're anything like most financial advisors, you've collected hundreds of valuable resources over the years: articles, calculators, PDFs, client-friendly graphics, and planning tools. But if they're scattered across bookmarks, downloads, and random folders, they're almost impossible to find when you actually need them. In this episode, I share one of the simplest organizational systems I've seen for creating a searchable planning resource library, inspired by one of the incredible advisors in our Systems to Scale alumni community. This easy-to-implement idea will save you time, reduce frustration, and make it easier to deliver value to clients. In this episode, you'll learn: How to create a simple digital resource library that keeps your favorite planning tools, articles, calculators, and PDFs organized in one place. A practical folder structure you can use to organize resources by life events, planning topics, niches, and client goals. Why building your resource library over time is far more effective than trying to organize everything at once. How one advisor took a basic organizational system and transformed it into a powerful knowledge library that saves time and improves client service. Sometimes the smallest systems create the biggest improvements in your business. A well-organized planning resource library may seem simple, but it can eliminate countless hours of searching for information and help you serve clients with greater confidence and consistency. I hope this episode inspires you to start building a system that future you will thank you for. Register for the Quin x Efficient Advisor Show & Tell HERE!
