Seth LaReau loves trail running and storytelling. He has a deep knowledge of business, and all of those things come together for his awesome Substack “ Trail Waves ”. It’s a fun read that is always interesting and insightful. I enjoy his writing style and the topics he covers. It’s nice to read about business and not feel like you’re being lectured! I had a great time learning more about Seth and why Trail Waves is the way it is, I hope you do as well. I met Harry and Lauren at The Divide 200 awards lunch and I knew right away that we would love to chat with them on the podcast because of their energy and the story of their race experience. It went so much further than just running fast and staying on track. It was an adventure to say the least, from Lauren helping set up aid stations to Harry “just existing” for miles at a time, this one was a lot of fun. I know you’re gonna enjoy it as much as I did! James Leitner is passionate about getting people access to clean drinking water. These days he’s working hard to make a difference in Uganda and it was a treat to hear his story and learn about why he created Mission Clean Water. He’s been able to make an impact through his trail events and the sport made its way into his heart in a big way. Put all of these things together and it’s why he’s happy to chat about why he carries 45 pounds of water and how he feels it’s an easy way to represent the challenge so many women and children face. Jason Burns has always been a curious individual and so the opportunity to spotlight the people he’s met over the years was one he had to embrace. His home province of Saskatchewan has a wealth of talent and stories. The stories he learned were ones that he knew would have an audience. That’s how the SaskatchewRun Podcast came to be and now it’s a project that is fulfilling and meaningful for Jason. It was awesome hearing all about him and why he does what he does! My SaskatchewRun appearance: Our new theme music: Massive shoutout to A Brothers Fountain! The Colorado based indie band has allowed us to use their song “Get Your Ass Outside” as our theme music. How cool is that?! I’m so grateful to Justin Fountain for responding to my email so quickly and being so generous and of course to the rest of the band, AJ Fountain, Ryan Guillen, Roel (Ro) Calvillo, Graham Good, Chris More, Bret Rindt, Trevor Davis and Zach Baumann. We even let the song play out at the end of this episode so you can appreciate how damn good it is! The Miller Minutes: The final episode before my Fat Dog 120 journey was supposed to drop this Thursday. Now Andrew and I will be chatting about what to do when your goal suddenly disappears. We are thinking of all those people directly affected by the fires. The show is always around 10 minutes and features Andrew coaching me towards my goals. He does it in a way that zooms out beyond just me and there are lessons for everyone in there. Sheena and I go to a lot of races together. She has been there and supported me over and over, and I’m always so grateful for it! So I absolutely love these resort style races where she has access to the amenities the entire time I’m on the trails playing. It’s nice to know she’s having a great time enjoying all kinds of fun as well! Panorama has lots of great things to do, and we had so much fun going back to The Wildness for their second year. Celeste Ramage has made it a mission to let men know they can find support. It’s so personal to her because her partner Chad Evans suffered in silence and alone, and ultimately ended his own life tragically at the age of 34. She’s found strength and meaning in connecting with the running community and supporting Heads up Guys through “Chad’s Day for Change” , an urban trail race in Edmonton, Alberta (August 8, 2026). She was open and honest, and I’m so grateful to her for coming on the show and sharing as she did. It’s wonderful we have people like Celeste looking to make change even in the shadow of tragedy. Well friends, this week’s guest is the best-looking guest I’ve ever had… OK, now I’m done with the hosting myself jokes ;) I’ve been having an absolute blast producing this show and the other shows here on the network. This journey has been so much fun. I’ve got to meet so many amazing people, and the fact that we continue to grow around here tells me the future is still just as exciting as it’s ever been. The philosophy hasn’t been very complicated; we highlight good people, and we say yes to opportunity. That’s kinda been the way I’ve moved through the world, and it shines through with CTR. Today was a great opportunity to let you know a bit more about myself, and I hope you won’t mind the format. Did you know that less than 3.5% of podcasts make it to 200 episodes?! Another year of awesome Trail Running Film Festival screenings has come and gone, and did we ever have a great time! My partner in crime, Jeannine Avelino , and the Executive Producer of the festival, Mathias Eichler , join me to wrap our season. It’s a blast chatting about what we got up to and how it all came together. I loved working with Jeannine and hearing about the film selection process, and learning about where the festival is at from Mathias was great as well. Enjoy! Sean Carberry fell in love with trail running and wanted to get as involved as he could. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? It’s amazing how common some of the threads are in our sport, but how different people’s backgrounds can be. Sean was a great interview; he is passionate, knowledgeable, and fun to talk to. Carrie Highman is so passionate about telling stories that she and her partner, Tim , live the “van life” so that they can be mobile enough to tell them all the time. When the chance came to work with Stephanie Case and Sophie Grant , they were all over it. An emotional journey followed and Carrie is proud of the offering they’ve put out together. It’s part of the online film selection and I hope you enjoy hearing about it as much as I did! Film Description: Off Course is an intimate documentary about ambition, uncertainty, and the unpredictability of trying to create a family while living at the edge of human endurance. The film follows two elite ultrarunners, Stephanie Case and Sophie Grant, who are deeply familiar with risk, suffering and control. In the mountains, effort leads to outcome; preparation leads to progress. But when their lives take an unexpected turn, they are confronted with a journey where timelines collapse, certainty disappears and no amount of discipline can guarantee an outcome. Set against the extremes of endurance sport, the film takes viewers through the highs and lows of iconic races such as the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, the Hardrock Hundred and Tor des Geants, while exploring moments of vulnerability off the trail that are rarely seen or spoken about. Off Course is a powerful reflection on letting go of control, redefining success, and learning to endure when the path forward is anything but clear. Allie Mac had long thought about this project, but it took a while for all of the pieces to come togheter. Max Haimowitz was the right filmmaker for the job, and they teamed up to make the project as they envisioned. It was fun hearing about how it came to be and some of the pressure that came with creating it. I hope you enjoy the chat as much as I did! Film Description: Allie races herself up and down the iconic Tombstone formation in Moab, UT. One version of Allie runs the full ascent and descent, relying on endurance. The other sprints up and BASE jumps off. Through clever camera trickery, we see Ultra Runner Allie vs. BASE Jumper Allie…which is faster? This short film captures the duality of ascent and descent, showcasing human power vs. gravity. The clock doesn’t lie, who will win? Patrick O’ Leary tried to get into the Dipsea many times, and once he finally did, his love only grew. The chance to make the race more diverse and showcase where the sport wants to go was one that he leaped at. It was great hearing about his motivation for the story and some of the challenges they faced along the way. It was great chatting with another passionate creator and film festival entrant! Film Description: Trail running is disappointingly homogenous, yet the Bay Area is home to a diverse population and some of the best trails in the US. This film follows five young runners from across the Bay Area as they take on the oldest, and perhaps the most unique, trail race in the US, the iconic Dipsea race.
