This week, all things Smarts Mountain and Mount Cube!
Welcome to Episode 245, this week we are joined by Ryan Vezina of Recycled Percussion. Ryan went viral last fall for participating in a New Hampshire hiking challenge where with no experience, he attempted to hike all 48 of New Hampshire's 4000 Footers in 7 days. He ultimately missed the 7 day mark but was successful in completing the challenge in 11 days total. Ryan gained a lot of attention and some controversy during the attempt and we covered the event on a dedicated episode back in October of last year. We've been in touch with him on and off and schedules have finally aligned to allow us to sit down with him to get his perspective. We will also learn about his background in other endurance activities and he will share more about his music and media activities. All this plus, its time to start planning for the 9-11 memorial on the summit of mount washington, a 91 year old hiker completes the AT, Flash Floods in the Grand Canyon, and we caught up with friend of show Dave Shits in the Woods as he left the White Mountains and is now entering Maine. Welcome to episode 242 of the sounds like a search and rescue podcast. This week, Nick is out hiking with our friend Dave on his AT journey so Stomp is back to cohost. We will catch up with all things Stomp and he is going to share some recent updates on virtual hiking technology. We have a segment with Chris and Joe from Project Insulnation - Project InsulNation creates life-changing, community-driven adventures designed to inspire bold living, build deep connection, and prove that nothing is off-limits with the right support for adults with Type 1 Diabetes. Chris and Joe are avid hikers and outdoor adventures so they will share their own stories about growing up with Type 1 diabetes and share resources and options for any listeners who might be interested in their organization. All this and Stomp will talk about cool developments in the world of virtual reality using hiking as the primary user experience, Stomp has all the details. Recent rescues in the whites, including rescues from The Link on Mt. Jefferson, a rescue on Mount Adams near Gray Knob, and a long Twinway carry out. Correction - Stomp mentioned Bald Mountain and Mike referenced this was on the 52 WAV list. Stomp was referencing Bald Mountain, not Bald Peak. Bald Peak is on the 52WAV, Bald Mountain is next to Artist Bluff - two separate summits.
