    Jun 4, 202625 min

In Episode Two of Power of Team , Andy Duncan is joined by Tanya Retter, CEO of the Chartered Banker Institute, to explore the role individuals play in creating high-performing teams. While teams may have a formal leader, the conversation highlights how leadership is not confined to job titles. Instead, it can be demonstrated through everyday behaviours that build trust, strengthen relationships and positively influence team culture. Together, Andy and Tanya explore what great teams feel like to be part of, the qualities that make someone a valued team member, and how individuals can contribute to team success regardless of their role or level of seniority. Drawing on personal experiences and practical insights, they discuss how to influence without authority, support colleagues effectively and create the conditions for stronger collaboration and performance. You'll discover: What makes someone a team member others want to work with How individual behaviours shape team culture and performance Ways to influence and contribute without being the team leader Practical approaches to building trust, credibility and collaboration How small actions can have a lasting impact on team effectiveness A practical and thought-provoking conversation that demonstrates how every individual has the ability to influence the success of their team.

  2. What Team Coaching is and How to use It to unlock potential in your team from Podcast Series hosted by The Chartered Banker Institute, opens in a new tab

    Mar 11, 202626 min

Power of Team – Episode 1: What Team Coaching is and How to use It to unlock potential in your team In the opening episode of Power of Team , Matt Rawlings sits down with experienced team coach Andy Duncan to explore what team coaching really is — and why it’s becoming essential in today’s high‑pressure, hybrid workplaces. Together, they unpack the hidden dynamics that shape how teams function, why talented individuals don’t always make a high‑performing team, and how small shifts in behaviour and conversation can unlock performance already waiting beneath the surface. Andy shares practical, accessible steps any team can take — even without a coach — along with real examples from his work supporting teams navigating complexity and change. You’ll discover: What makes team coaching different from training or team‑building Why some teams create momentum while others get stuck The behaviours and dynamics that quietly shape performance Simple starting points to improve how your team works, today A grounded, insightful introduction to releasing the power of your own team — wherever you’re starting from.

  3. Skills Conversations - Episode 1 from Podcast Series hosted by The Chartered Banker Institute, opens in a new tab

    Feb 11, 202523 min

At the heart of the Government’s agenda for the growth and competitiveness of the UK economy and financial services as a sector critical to these ambitions, is a renewed focus on skills, increasing the talent pool and workforce development. It’s a fast-moving landscape and this series aims to bring developments to members’ attention to help them navigate the changes that will inevitably come which may have a significant impact on how they approach their own development or that of others. “Skills Conversations” is a podcast series designed to enlighten members of the Chartered Banker Institute about the evolving landscape of skills in financial services. This series, amongst other things, will delve into the key role apprenticeships play in building knowledge, skills, behaviours and a pipeline of talent in financial services, potential solutions to the development of a new apprenticeships system, and the challenges that lie ahead. Many people have a rather narrow view of apprenticeships, associating them more with trades rather than with financial services. This series will look under the bonnet and demonstrate that they play a key talent development route for some new entrants and for reskilling the existing workforce. It aims to foster professional development by providing insights into the work of Skills England, professional bodies, employers and other associated training providers. The series also encourages active engagement, inviting listeners to contribute their ideas and perspectives to help better inform the policy discussion around apprenticeships and skills more generally. Host(s): Mark Roberts, Head of Learning Partnerships, Chartered Banker Institute . Mark is one of the UK’s thought leaders around apprenticeships in financial services (See Annex A). Guest(s) Luke Lyons, Process Improvement Manager at Lloyds Banking Group and Level 7 finance apprentice.
