Learning and Loving to Fly

Sorry it's been so long! My journey to CFI-I was not without challenges but it is not an overly difficult checkride, in my opinion. One thing I forget to mention in this podcast is that if you are taking the written test for Instrument Airplane and plan to get your CFI-I within the next 2 years, take the Instrument Instructor written test at the same time. They are virtually the same test! Lesson plans are crucial and being in the right mindset is crucial because instrument flying has lots of details to pay attention to. Thanks for listening!

This episode covers what I believe to be the most difficult check ride thus far! There is a lot to know and as a CFI, I now have tons of responsibility. I started this journey in August of 2021 and am now helping others to start theirs!

I PASSED! I didn't have much to accomplish on the 2nd go-round here but sometimes the 2nd chance gives you more butterflies than the 1st because you REALLY don't want to fail twice in a row. This is just a quick episode talking about the flight, what I did in between the first and second check rides and what I plan to do next!

In this episode I talk about how my instrument check ride went. (I FAILED!) I talk about the oral portion (which I passed), the types of questions I was asked, what helped me to study, the pre-flight portion, the flight portion that I passed and where everything went wrong. Part 2 will come as soon as my next check ride is scheduled and taken.

Instead of going week-to-week, I decided to talk through all of my instruction in one episode. I talk how it started, what I learned along the way, what was difficult and frustrating, and tools that I found useful!

Everyone has a hard time with landings. I sure did! In this episode I talk about where my difficulty was (multiple places) and how I went about fixing it. I talk about the resources I used to help me think through it all and try to let everyone know that they are not the only ones - we all struggle with bad landings! CHECK RIDE!! In this lengthier episode I cover what my experience was like at my first ever airplane check ride. I review, in general, what was covered during my oral review (including where I went wrong) and how the flight went.

The week before checkride! In this episode I talk about the final hours leading up to the check ride, what I worked on, what I struggled with, and how, like many others, my check ride got pushed back two weeks!

In this episode - I discuss what happened after my first solo and just prior to check ride prep. A lot of cross-country flying and knocking out the hours requirements prior to the check ride. Also took my written during this time!

In this quick follow-up, I talk about the feelings before and after my first solo just to make sure I didn't miss anything in Episode 5.

Although nerve-wracking - what an exciting week! This is a quick look at the week that I did my first solo. I realize after recording that I probably didn't do a great job of describing how I felt the whole week knowing that I'd solo by the end of the week but I'll cover that a little better in my next episode.
