  • Personal journals
  • Society & culture

When you’re fat you feel so different, because everything about the world (from chairs and clothes to doctors and dating) is designed to tell you that you’re wrong, you don’t belong, it isn’t OK to be in the body you have. Ameya and Pallavi discuss being fat—the pain, the joy, the learning, the dark humor and the silver lining. They talk about body image, societal norms, working hard at self love, failing at weight loss, loneliness, food, love and sex! You’ll hear about their journeys to fat liberation and how fatphobia and fat stigma affect us all.

As fatsos, health feels like the final frontier for all concern trolls. If Pallavi and Ameya got a dollar for every time they were told they would drop dead, they would probably have been able to start a hospital themselves. And that’s the experience of every fat person. Which is appalling given how medical institutions are meant to be a safe space of care and knowledge. Starting today, though, they want to focus a little more on how they've handled it. How did they find the ways to beat fatphobia, to find their own styles, to demand their right to take up space? 12. S2E6: For she's a jolly good fellow from Fat. So?, opens in a new tab

    May 14, 202440 min

Nobody likes an arrogant brag, and humility is an important trait. That's why we make jokes about ourselves and don't like to brag, and respond to compliments with surprise and negation. But what happens when humility is humiliation and self deprecation becomes the way you punish yourself for not conforming to society's (idiotic) requirements? Pallavi and Ameya talk about their experiences with self-deprecation in this episode, and how damaging and dangerous it can be. It's not all rage though, there's science and giggles and how they have found ways to cope. Check out this talk: https://ideas.ted.com/why-rejection-hurts-so-much-and-what-to-do-about-it/

    May 14, 202437 min

Rejection is like the silent, smelly fart that seeps through the room making everyone wrinkle their nose but no one addresses it. And also what do you do about it? You've got to keep going back—whether it's school, university, the job, home and family, the public spaces; basically everywhere that you are not alone. Ameya and Pallavi go back down memory lane to talk about the impact rejection has had in their lives, what it still brings up for them and the tools they have developed to deal with it all. What are all the extra special ways that we are stifled and held back by the special shaming we receive because of fatphobia? Pallavi and Ameya chat about the origins of shame, its psychological consequences, and their personal experiences of shame in their lives. You can follow us @fatsopodcast on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
