On this shorter episode, we will cover injuries related with high cliff diving events, such as the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series. The physics of the jump and landing is what matters here. Male athletes jump from a 27-28 meters high tower and the female athletes from a 21 meters high tower. They are evaluated by judges like in other lower diving events (like the Olympics). They can go up to 85km/h and it is when they touch the water and decelerate that severe injuries can happen. It was a true pleasure covering the event as a physician. It was also a true pleasure working with many experienced rescue specialists. Hope you enjoy. Today, we talk about cold stuff with a guest, Jørgen Melau. He is a PhD in physiology and paramedic from Norway. We discuss Swimming Induced Pulmonary Edema, the Norseman Extreme Triathlon and cold-water immersion.
