  1. S7 EP201: Laura Summer: Traumatic Caesarean Birth / Private OB + Induction at 38+3 with Identical Twins + VBAC Waterbirth from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Sep 13, 202659 min

On today’s show, I’m joined by Laura, a German-born mother who shares two very different birth experiences that resulted in three babies. Laura entered her first pregnancy with the goal of having an unmedicated, natural birth. But after her waters released before labour had properly established, a long and difficult hospital experience ultimately ended in a caesarean When she fell pregnant again, Laura was clear on the kind of care she wanted this time around, seeking out an obstetrician who aligned with her birth choices and supported VBAC. Then, at her first scan, came the shock that she wasn’t carrying one baby, but identical twins. Suddenly, the VBAC she had hoped for felt like a much bigger mountain to climb. But with a skilled obstetrician who supported her twin VBAC, and a birth team she deeply trusted, Laura continued forward with confidence in herself and her babies. At 38 weeks and three days, she went on to birth her boys in the water, just 21 minutes apart, with her second baby born en caul. 3. S7 EP199: Aurora Sol: Two Freebirth / 43-weeks + Meconium + 3-day Labour / En Caul Waterbirth / Birth as Initiation from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Aug 29, 20261 hr 19 min

In today’s episode, Aurora shares the extraordinary birth of her daughter, who arrived beyond 43 weeks after an almost three-day labour that brought her to the very edge of her physical and spiritual strength. With meconium surrounding her, those first moments became a raw and instinctive exchange between mother and baby, as Aurora called her daughter into the world. Her son’s birth unfolded entirely differently: a healing five-hour waterbirth where he was born en caul. With this birth, Aurora softened into the intensity and allowed her body to lead. Woven through both stories is a powerful exploration of conscious conception, intuition, fear, surrender and birth as a profound rite of passage. 4. S7 EP198: Rochelle Bramich: Three Homebirths / The Power of Mindset + Hypnobirthing from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Aug 22, 20261 hr 19 min

On today’s episode, I sit down with Rochelle, as she takes us through the stories of her three homebirths and the journey of growth, self-trust and transformation that unfolded alongside them. Rochelle entered motherhood at 25 with very little knowledge about birth. After finding a private midwifery clinic and discovering homebirth late in her pregnancy, she followed what felt right and went on to have a beautiful first birth at home. At the time, she didn’t fully realise how significant that experience would become, but it marked the beginning of a much deeper journey into birth, motherhood and learning to trust herself. By her second and third pregnancies, Rochelle approached birth with far greater intention and awareness. Through hypnobirthing, visualisation, scripting and consciously creating an environment where she felt safe enough to soften and surrender, she prepared not only for the physical experience of birth, but for the emotional and spiritual journey too. Across her three stories, Rochelle shares how each birth asked something different of her and gave her something different in return . 5. S7 EP197: Allowed to Birth: The Documentary Challenging the Modern Birth Paradigm with creators Jacinta Lagos & Kristine Laurie from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Aug 15, 202652 min

Today’s episode is a really important conversation with filmmaker Jacinta Lagos and globally respected midwife Kristine Lauria , the women behind the new documentary Allowed to Birth: The Journey of a Global Midwife . Jacinta’s journey into birth began behind the camera. She began documenting births and later trained as a doula. But the more births she witnessed, the more she began noticing the stark contrast between what she was seeing in some hospital environments - including trauma, coercion and obstetric violence - and the physiological births she was witnessing at home. Eventually, she reached a point where simply witnessing it wasn’t enough. She wanted to create something that could challenge the way we think about birth. That eventually connected her with Kristine, whose experience in the birth space spans more than three decades - from an apprenticeship supporting families within Amish communities, where breech and twin birth were treated as variations of normal, to humanitarian work around the world and her work today teaching and supporting practitioners in breech and multiple birth. Together, they created Allowed to Birth - a documentary that follows Kristine’s extraordinary life and work as a global midwife, using her experiences and perspective as a lens to explore the medicalisation of birth, women’s autonomy, and what becomes possible when birth is understood and supported as a physiological process. 6. S7 EP196: Lauren Balsillie: Five Births, Six Babies - Three Hospital Births / Homebirth / MCDA Identical Twin Waterbirth from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Aug 8, 20261 hr 25 min

On today’s episode I’m joined by Lauren, a doula and mother of six, who takes us through the births of all of her children - from three positive hospital births and a beautiful homebirth, to the birth of her identical twin boys. After having four children close together, Lauren and her partner waited several years before deciding to have another baby. To their surprise, it was identical twins. Despite having already supported nine vaginal twin births as a doula, Lauren speaks honestly about the anxiety and physical intensity of carrying two babies, along with the additional monitoring that came with an MCDA twin pregnancy. Although her plans for another homebirth had to shift, Lauren was able to keep the continuity of care she valued, with her private midwife helping create a supportive hospital birth team around her. At 37 weeks and six days, Lauren chose an induction and went on to birth both of her boys in the water, just six minutes apart - with Twin B being born en caul. This is such an inspiring journey, and one very close to my heart as a twin mother. In this episode we discuss: Lauren’s journey through five births, from hospital birth to homebirth and twins Discovering she was carrying identical MCDA twins The anxiety and physical intensity of twin pregnancy Why continuity of care became so important to Lauren Creating a homebirth-like experience within a hospital setting Choosing induction at 37 weeks and 6 days Making informed decisions around monitoring, intervention and delayed cord clamping Birthing both twins in the water, just six minutes apart Twin B being born en caul and choosing a physiological third stage Lauren’s biggest advice for twin mothers: choose your care team wisely Resources + Mentions Instagram: @lauren.may.doula Lauren's Doula Support HERE. 7. S7 EP195: Rachel Chevell: Four-Year Long Fertility Journey, Natural Conception at 41, Positive Hospital Birth from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Aug 1, 20261 hr 9 min

On today’s episode, Rachel shares the deeply personal four-year journey that led her to her beautiful daughter. After experiencing her first miscarriage, Rachel received a message through a close friend that her baby would return, but that she needed to find herself first. That experience became the beginning of everything that followed. Rachel takes us through the years of healing and transformation that came next. From leaving Sydney and starting again on the Gold Coast, to finding a new community and exploring a more holistic way of living, she became deeply committed to nurturing her body and mind. Four years after their journey began, she naturally conceived her daughter in her forties. When labour began at home, Rachel drew on everything she had learnt - using the tools, knowledge and trust she had built throughout pregnancy to fully surrender to the experience. Arriving at the hospital just ten minutes before her daughter was placed into her arms. 8. S7 EP194: Kristy Haszard: Three Positive Hospital Births / MGP / Spontaneous Labour at 36 Weeks / Low Platelets + Induction / Surprise Pregnancy at 20 Weeks / from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    May 17, 20261 hr 48 min

In this episode, I’m joined by Kristy, who shares three positive hospital birth stories, each one unfolding in a completely different way. Her first birth began unexpectedly when her waters broke at 36 weeks and 3 days. Kristy was supported to trust that if her baby was coming, there was no need to interfere. It became a deeply empowering entrance into motherhood. With her second baby, Kristy navigated low platelets, hospital policy, and the emotional weight of agreeing to an induction But with the support of her midwife who knew her deeply, honoured her fears, and protected her birth space, her induction became an example of how different birth can feel when intervention is used with patience and skill. Kristy’s third pregnancy was the ultimate surprise, discovering she was already 20 weeks pregnant. This episode is a beautiful reminder of the power of continuity of care, the importance of feeling safe and known, and how every birth can bring its own lesson in trust. In this conversation, we move into something that isn’t spoken about enough… the reality that more than 1 in 3 women walk away from birth carrying trauma. Today we explore how these experiences can stay with us long after birth… shaping the way we feel, respond, and move through motherhood. This is a powerful conversation that brings birth trauma into the light… highlighting the depth of impact these experiences can have on a woman’s body, mind, and sense of self… and how important it is to have the space, support, and tools to process and release them as part of this rite of passage. In this episode, we cover: The reality of birth trauma… and why it’s more common than we think How trauma can form through how a woman feels in her birth Shari’s personal experience and what shaped her work Why women can feel unheard or disconnected within the system The fawning response… and why many don’t speak up in the moment How trauma can show up later… often when something triggers it Why these experiences are held in the body The difference between reflecting on birth and actually processing it How past patterns and the subconscious can influence birth What it looks like to process, release, and move forward Show Notes: Instagram: @belly2birth Website: www.belly2birth.com Listen to Shari's birth stories HERE. Apr 26, 20261 hr 17 min

This week on the show I’m joined by Jaylene, a Canadian-born mother now living in New Zealand, whose journey into motherhood carries deep threads of grief, healing, intuition and trust. Long before conception, Jaylene was navigating the devastating loss of her younger brother… a grief that reshaped her sense of timing, readiness.. It wasn’t until years later, after consciously creating space to reconnect with herself, that she stepped into pregnancy with intention and openness. Throughout her pregnancy, Jaylene followed what felt aligned for her… immersing herself in positive birth stories, and trusting her body, which ultimately led her to choose to birth at home. However, when she discovered her baby was breech, she was met with resistance and had to deeply advocate for her choices, educating herself and standing firmly in what she knew to be right for her and her baby. What unfolds is an extraordinary birth story… a fast, instinctive, under four-hour labour at home, where her son was born breech, in his own time and in his own way… on a date that carries profound meaning for her family. Jaylene’s story is a powerful reflection of surrender, sovereignty, and trusting both the seen and unseen elements of birth. Mar 28, 20261 hr 26 min

This week on the show I’m joined by Bianca, a Brisbane mum of two whose journey into motherhood is a powerful reflection of intuition, advocacy, and deep self-trust. After experiencing a missed miscarriage, Bianca consciously prepared her body and mind before conceiving her first daughter, Bliss. Throughout her pregnancy, she immersed herself in birth education and began to question the mainstream narrative around birth, feeling strongly drawn toward a physiological home birth. However, after being classified as “high risk” due to her epilepsy, Bianca found her options limited and ultimately entered the hospital system, where her plans began to unravel. Bianca’s second pregnancy became a turning point… because this time she chose to follow the inner knowing she had felt all along. What unfolds is a deeply personal and transformative birth at home, where she sinks into the inner work, meets her fears head-on, and anchors into a level of trust she had always carried within. Kaitlyn shares three completely different birth experiences… from a private hospital birth with a cascade of interventions, to a deeply empowering homebirth, and finally, a freebirth guided by her intuition, her faith in God, and a deep trust in her body. 14. S7 EP188: Laura Gaschk: Private OB + Hospital Shower Birth / Fibroid + Risked Out of Birth Cottage / Postpartum Mental Health / Private Midwifery Care / Rural Birth Options / Homebirth from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Mar 7, 20262 hr 32 min

This week on the show I’m joined by Laura as she shares her journey into motherhood. Laura discovering she was pregnant while travelling around Australia on a honeymoon road trip, navigating early scans across multiple states during COVID, before returning home to prepare for birth. During her first pregnancy Laura sought a physiological birth and continuity of care, but after a fibroid was discovered overlapping the placenta she was risked out of the midwife-led birth cottage she had planned and transferred into hospital care. After navigating conflicting medical opinions and fragmented care, Laura ultimately found support with a private obstetrician and went on to birth her daughter in a powerful spontaneous labour in the hospital shower. Laura shares how the intensity of her postpartum experience, including significant mental health challenges, shaped the way she approached her next pregnancy and birth. When she fell pregnant again, Laura felt strongly that she wanted something more supported, more personal, and more aligned with the kind of care she had longed for the first time around. In this episode Laura shares how she discovered private midwifery care halfway through her pregnancy, hired a “home away from home” birth space, and went on to experience a beautiful water birth surrounded by trusted support… catching her baby boy at home in the water. This conversation explores continuity of care, trusting your instincts, navigating rural birth options, postpartum mental health, and the powerful difference the right support can make in both birth and motherhood. Feb 21, 20261 hr 44 min

Vanessa joins me from Coffs Harbour to share the story of birthing both of her daughters at home… her first during lockdown in a tiny studio apartment after a 26-hour posterior labour at 41+4 weeks, and her second in the quiet stillness of dawn - a sunrise water birth that unfolded almost exactly as she had envisioned. After reflecting deeply on her first birth experience, Vanessa immersed herself in emotional womb healing, mantra, and the teachings of freebirth philosophy. Her second labour became an exploration of mindset, responsibility, and self-trust… labouring alone through much of the night and anchoring into a simple phrase that transformed her experience. In this episode we discuss: Posterior labour and going 41+4 Labouring at home without scans or medical testing The role of mindset in physiological birth Emotional womb work and releasing stored tension Labouring solo and conscious birth preparation Having an older child witness birth Placenta encapsulation and postpartum recovery Taking responsibility for your birth choices The power of “knowing” This is a conversation about transformation… about shifting from endurance to intention, and from hoping for a positive birth to consciously choosing one. 17. S6 EP185: Kacee Driver: Infertility + Severe Endo + IVF Recommendation / Healing Through TCM + Nutrition / Hospital Birth with Student Midwife / Homebirth from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Aug 31, 20252 hr 4 min

Today I’m joined by Kacee, a mother of two whose story is a powerful testament to the healing that unfolds when we take our health into our own hands. After many years of being dismissed by doctors and receiving a severe endometriosis diagnosis, Kacee was told her only path to motherhood would be through IVF. But instead of accepting that as her story, she and her husband committed to rebuilding their health from the ground up - through the support of traditional Chinese medicine, nourishing food, bodywork, mindset practices, and conscious living. Along the way they experienced loss, but also the deep transformation that comes with reclaiming responsibility for your body and your journey. Her first pregnancy became a turning point, supported by a student midwife and an obstetrician who honoured her choices. When it came time to welcome her daughter, she carried that trust even further - choosing to birth at home, within a safe and familiar circle. Kacee’s story is a beautiful reflection of what becomes possible when we refuse to give up, when we find support that aligns with our values, and what happens when we lean into the truth that our bodies are not broken. 18. S6 EP184: Laura Bergen-Roberts: GD Diagnosis + Policy Pressure / 42+3 Hospital Birth with PPH / Healing Homebirth from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Aug 23, 20251 hr 17 min

This week I’m joined by Laura, a mother of two whose journey into motherhood began with loss, resilience, and ultimately, transformation. After an early miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy that required surgery, falling pregnant with her daughter felt deeply healing. Yet her first birth inside the system carried its own challenges - a gestational diabetes label, weeks of policy pressure, and the weight of self-advocacy that left her bracing for battle rather than softening into trust. Though she went on to birth she had planned at 42 weeks, a postpartum haemorrhage cast a long shadow over what might have been a fully empowering experience. For her second birth, she chose to be at home and entered labour with a profound sense of trust. In the early hours of New Year’s Eve, she brought her baby into the world swiftly and instinctively, receiving him with her own hands - a deeply healing contrast to her first experience. Laura’s story reflects the freedom that comes when we step beyond “good girl” conditioning and into the full magic and capability that birth holds. 19. S6 EP183: Mia Briski: Traumatic Caesarean in UK / Healing VBAC at Home / Posterior Labour Over 2 Days / High Blood Pressure / Fast Third Birth at 11:11 from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Aug 16, 20251 hr 15 min

This week I’m joined by Mia, a mother of three whose birth journey spans from a traumatic caesarean in the UK to two transformative homebirths in Australia. Her first birth began as a casually planned homebirth, but a spike in blood pressure at 38 weeks led to a hospital admission. With little understanding of the interventions offered, Mia found herself on the induction conveyor belt - an experience that left her deeply shaken, and unable to call it the day she “gave birth.” Determined to rewrite her story, Mia entered her second pregnancy committed to a VBAC at home (HBAC). She poured herself into preparation - mobilising her scar, tending to her mindset, building a strong support team, and learning to trust herself as the decision-maker in her birth space. What followed was a slow, two-day labour with a posterior baby that reshaped her beliefs about birth, her body, and her own strength. Her third birth - and longest pregnancy - came on quickly and intensified fast. Together, Mia’s three contrasting births form a powerful testament to healing, self-advocacy, and the transformation that comes from doing the inner work. 20. S6 EP182: Chloe Poturalski: Infinite Creators / Sovereign Pregnancy and Unassisted Birth in Mexico / 5 Years of Preparation / Mindset Preparation / Trust, Mindset & Birth at 42 Weeks from Positive Birth Australia, opens in a new tab

    Aug 9, 20251 hr 25 min

This week on the show I’m joined by Chloe, a first-time mama whose birth story is a powerful testament to preparation, trust, and the mind-body connection. Long before conception, Chloe immersed herself in years of deep research and learning - equipping herself with the knowledge and confidence to choose an unassisted birth at her grandmother’s home in Mexico, guided by a vision she’d received during a plant medicine ceremony. Throughout her pregnancy, she committed to mindset work and mental rehearsal, allowing her to enter birth already familiar with what her body would experience. However, when she reached 42 weeks, the waiting began to wear on her - caught between the calm she had cultivated and the pressure to act. Yet even in the messiness of that final stretch, she found her way back into alignment. Chloe’s story is a powerful reflection of what becomes possible when birth is reclaimed as a conscious rite of passage - prepared for with intention and grounded in trust.
