Krysten "KD" Dean and Jess Scott are two amazing women of color who work with Eighth Day Sound and tour with Earth, Wind, and Fire. KD joins us as an industry veteran who has been touring for 12 years, while Jess has only recently started touring and is on her first year (at the time of the interview). Both women bring their unique perspectives and journeys into sound, as well as share with us their perspectives on being women of color in a highly dominant white-male field. Aly Carlisle-Steinberg is a FOH Engineer, touring since 2015 based in New York City. She grew up in Santa Rosa, California, and completed a Recording Arts Degree at CSU Chico. After graduation, Aly moved to Portland, Oregon to start working at venues and begin touring. She moved to NYC 3 years ago and still works at various venues and out on tours, including Lucy Dacus and Faye Webster as a front of house engineer. Ashleigh is an experienced audio engineer, sound designer, and re-recording mixer, based in the UK, with a demonstrated history of working in the creative media production industries. She is highly skilled in audio post-production and mix engineering for film and television with numerous credits including BAFTA & Palme d’Or nominated films. Ashleigh has previously worked with the Pinewood Studios Creative Audio team and Avid Technology, she is currently working for Solid State Logic as Head of Educational Programmes and Services developing and implementing the SSL Certified Training Partner Program to provide schools with the tools they need to help students build critical skills, expand their networks, and gain a competitive edge in the job market. Amy Wright has been around all things audio ever since she helped her sound engineer dad as a 6 year-old. From there she moved onto mixing bands on her own, and then started working in corporate AV at the Melbourne Convention Center. She has since moved into teaching at the Australian Institute of Music, using her tech, music, and production background to help empower the next generation of technicians. Lisa is a freelance sound engineer from Germany, now based in Auckland, New Zealand. She started doing sound in 2000 while trying to figure out what to do with her life after school. In 2003 she ditched her social work studies to pursue a career doing sound for live events and has never looked back. Doing monitors has been an early and lasting passion. Preparing the gear and programming a console to suit her workflow, figuring out what each musician wants and needs, and mixing it ties together all the awesome aspects in live events: tech, people, creativity, performance. She is a highly regarded RF coordinator across New Zealand, having done coordination for all major festivals and many large sport events. She tries teaching basic coordination to anyone in the industry and has held workshops. She also runs regular meetups open to all women and queer people in our wider industry, inviting all techs and crew across departments. She also initiated a chatgroup for women and queer people, it‘s a good place to ask tech questions, look for crew or rant. Hannah Herzog is a 2020 Show Production Graduate who has mixed major world wide events such as the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Currently working as the audio department lead for American Audio Visual Inc., she has been handling audio for high profile figures such as Hillary Clinton, Ron DeSantis, and most recently Vice President JD Vance alongside White House Communications. In addition, she has mixed important Board of Directors meetings for large companies like Space Florida, and Scouting America. In a male-dominated industry, she’s built a reputation in corporate audio for precision, professionalism, and the kind of behind-the-scenes excellence that makes her one of live sound’s true inspirations. Kathleen is a freelance sound engineer from California, now based in Berlin, Germany. In recent years she's had the pleasure of touring internationally as a FOH/Monitor engineer and playback engineer. Empowering artists to realize their sonic vision and feel comfortable onstage is her passion. She's mixed stages in Rock am Ring/Rock im Park, Funkhaus Berlin, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Vienna Konzerthaus, Meguro Persimmon Hall, among others. Otherwise, she's troubleshooting technical issues at Ableton and working with Berlin-based sound crew Soundsysters to support women/non-binary/trans people interested in audio. Lora is a prolific musician hailing from Whāingaroa/Raglan, and is currently based in Kirikiriroa. She has worked as an Audio Engineer for the past 20 years, and she currently works as a freelance Audio Engineer/Guitar Tech for local and international acts, while also working as the Head of the Audio Program at the School of Audio Engineering. While based in Melbourne, Lora toured and worked on large scale events alongside global figures such as; Arnold Schwarzenegger, David Attenborough, Nick Cave, Chaka Khan, Jane Goodall, and The Dalai Llama. Lora has also contributed to over 20 recorded works as a Studio Engineer, Producer and Musician. As a producer, she likes to think outside the box, taking influence from Producers such as Sylvia Massey and misusing different items and pieces of technology to get a unique sound. Lora has done significant work in the NZ music/equity space, establishing a social network safespace for women and gender diversity in the NZ Music Industry in 2016. Brianna Cofield is an audio engineer and pianist from Long Island, New York. While attending Syracuse University, Brianna gained hands-on experience in record production and live sound engineering. After graduating, she began working in a studio as an assistant, and eventually moved on to live sound engineering full-time. Currently, Brianna works as a live sound engineer at Quantum Sound Systems, a sound company in Montauk. Through the company, she has set up stages and has done install work for places like The Surf Lodge, the Montauk Lighthouse, and other venues in the Hamptons. Brianna has worked as a studio engineer at The Bridge Studio, an A2 engineer at The Apollo Theater in Harlem and the Tilles Center theater, and has been the AV tech at the Jewish Center of the Hamptons for live streams. Katie Maifeld is a NYC based freelance live audio engineer and music business professional. She has worked on thousands of events for clubs, festivals, and corporate conferences. Prior to these roles, Katie worked for recording studios as an assistant engineer, as an office manager, stage manager for an entertainment company, and was an award winning NPR talk show co-host and producer. She is the new podcast host for Soundgirls Podcast and is actively involved in the NY chapter of AES. Katie relocated from Nashville after nine years to live in her dream city of NYC. Los Angeles; Sr. Managing Director, Producers & Engineers Wing and Recording Technology, Recording Academy. A former recording engineer, Maureen has worked on GRAMMY winning recordings for artists including Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Santana—as well as well as on numerous other projects, including two Billboard Number One Dance songs. She has a degree in Broadcast Communication Arts from California State University, San Francisco, and has taught seminars on the theory and practice of recording for companies including ABC and CBS Television. She has also worked in both artist and studio management, was the longtime Los Angeles editor for Mix magazine, and has published three books related to recording. Her most recent, co-written with its subject, is Al Schmitt on the Record: The Magic Behind the Music, chronicling the life and career of the most awarded recording engineer in history.

Amelia McCloskey has been nominated for many awards, including Music Supervisor Of The Year. She started in the music business as a recording artist, then moved into artist development before becoming a sync agent and finally a music supervisor. Amount her newly opened Tronto offices; Amelia recently set up ultimatesyncaccess.com to educate and empower those looking to break into the sync world. Recently projects include supervising a film with Martin Scorsese's daughter, and she has also contracted music with Netflix and a wide array of feature and short films.

Anthony Vanchure is an Emmy-nominated Supervising Sound Editor who has strengthened a variety of projects in television and film with his unique talents and precise creative approach. Most recently, Anthony has been celebrated for his work on Roku’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story directed by Eric Appel and starring Daniel Radcliffe, which he spearheaded with his regular collaborator Mike James Gallagher. In addition, Anthony earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Sound Editing in Amazon’s acclaimed documentary Lucy and Desi, directed by Amy Poehler. Anthony is also serving as supervising sound editor on Apple’s upcoming original film Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me, which is set to open AFI Fest 2022. Mike James Gallagher is an Emmy-nominated sound designer who has elevated many films and television shows with his wide-ranging talents. Mike began his professional sound design career on the short film, Verbatim, which was an official selection at Sundance Film Festival. He went on to work on Netflix’s 1922, an adaptation of a Stephen King novella, Netflix’s Song Exploder, a series based on the popular podcast, HBO’s Phoenix Rising, and Hulu/FX’s Hysterical. He is also extremely passionate about sound design education, having produced and directed masterclasses for Oscar-winning sound designers Richard King and Mark Mangini.
