Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Coffee and Divination, I’m joined once again by Irene Glasse — Heathen Witch, teacher, author, and spiritworker. Irene is the co-author, with Caine Dreamwalker, of the newly released Foundations of Witchcraft: A Blackfeather Mystery School Training Manual, from Crossed Crow Books, as well as Blackfeather Mystery School: The Magpie Training. She is also a contributing writer to Llewellyn’s Witch’s Sun Sign series and Sabbats Almanacs, a Commissioned Lay Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick, and the lead organizer of Frederick CUUPS. We begin our chat discussing the divinatory experience that inspired Blackfeather Mystery School, and the question at the heart of Foundations of Witchcraft: what skills and practices actually help someone become a capable, grounded Witch? Irene and I talk about spirit communication and discernment, knowing your own internal voice, and using divination to help confirm and clarify messages you've received. We also explore Elemental Life Sculpting, magical agency, guising and altered energetic states, trance states, and the importance of maintaining foundational practices even as our magical work becomes more advanced. It's always lovely to speak with Irene, and this conversation went in some wonderful directions. I hope you enjoy, and let me know your thoughts, as always! -- Find Irene Glasse online: Glasse Witch Cottage: https://glassewitchcottage.com/ Blackfeather Mystery School: https://blackfeathermystery.com/ Signed copies of Foundations of Witchcraft: A Blackfeather Mystery School Training Manual: https://checkout.square.site/merchant/286E8M5RCXXYJ/checkout/FCJQ6DHZABVLPY2ICUXQQLVF -- The Diviner’s Pathway — Registration Now Open Registration is now open for the founding cohort of The Diviner’s Pathway, my new six-week live course in nature-led divination. This intensive course will meet weekly beginning November 10, 2026, working across tarot, runes, pendulums, dreams, and the basics of omen recognition, while developing the deeper skills that connect those practices: asking better questions, cultivating spiritual relationships, and learning to listen more clearly. This first cohort will be a small, close-knit group — only eight students total — so if you’ve been interested in studying divination with me in a more hands-on way, take a look at the full course information and registration here: The Diviner’s Pathway — course details and registration You can also find information about upcoming classes, events, private divination sessions, and free resources at www.CoffeeAndDivination.com -- Support Coffee and Divination: The Diviner’s Path: A Nature-Led Approach to Divination with Tarot, Runes & Pendulums is now available from Llewellyn Publishing and through your local bookstore. Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Coffee and Divination, I’m joined by Deborah Lipp — author, Witch, High Priestess, tarot reader, and teacher who has been practicing and teaching Wicca, magic, and occult subjects for more than forty years. Deborah is the author of numerous books on Witchcraft, ritual, magical practice, tarot, and polarity, including The Elements of Ritual , Tarot Interactions , Bending the Binary , and her newest book, Roadmap by Moonlight: A Guide to Wicca for Life . We begin by talking about what it means to build a magical and spiritual practice that can actually last for decades — not simply a collection of techniques, correspondences, or rituals. We also talk about experimentation, adapting to new situations and needs, and how we create vibrant new things, without losing the structure that makes it all work. And of course, we spend quite a bit of time on divination: Learning to see a spread as a complete image; psychic perception and the ways it can become suppressed; intuition versus projection; prediction; and the importance of becoming willing to take risks. We also talk about magical polarity beyond simplistic male/female binaries, the ideas behind Deborah’s book Bending the Binary , and what happens when inherited magical structures are examined more deeply instead of simply discarded or repeated. It was a lovely conversation to have, and I appreciate all the care that Deborah puts into all of her books and teachings. -- Find Deborah Lipp online: Deborah’s website: https://www.deborahlipp.com/ Deborah’s books: https://www.deborahlipp.com/in-print/ Deborah’s Bookshop.org store: https://bookshop.org/shop/deborahlipp -- Upcoming Events with JoAnna: Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 7 p.m.: Book signing and talk with JoAnna at Phoenix Books in Burlington, Vermont. Nov - December 2026: Registration is now open for The Diviner’s Pathway - a live, small-group divination container beginning Nov. 10. Over six weeks, we’ll work with multiple forms of divination - including tarot, runes, pendulums, dreams, omens, and trance divination - to develop discernment, relationship, and spiritual connection with nature spirits and our intuitive abilities. Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Coffee and Divination, I'm joined by Leandra Witchwood — modern witch, wortcunner, herbalist, author, teacher, and founder of The Magick Kitchen podcast. Leandra's work brings together witchcraft, herbalism, plant-spirit relationships, shadow work, divination, and decades of magical practice. She is a Master Herbalist and Reiki Master, and through The Witchwood Teahouse, she creates intentional hand-blended teas rooted in her work with plants and herbalism. We begin with Leandra's earliest experiences with divination, as well as her path into herbalism and the practice of wortcunning. We also dive into dendromancy -- divination and communication with trees -- as well as ways of listening to the spirits of land and place. If you're listening as this episode comes out, Leandra has several classes and offerings happening very soon — and Leandra and I will both be teaching at TempleFest in Massachusetts, September 4–7. Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Coffee and Divination, I'm joined once again by Dr. Gwendolyn Reece — Pagan priestess, Theosophist, librarian, and author of "The Waters of Mnemosyne: Ancient Greek Religion for Modern Pagans" This time, we go deeper into Neoplatonism: what it actually is, how the gods fit into a monistic cosmos, and what any of that has to do with recognizing an omen (for divination) when you see one. We talk about the difference between superstition and actionable intelligence, why academia keeps the occult at arm's length, and what it would look like to bring real philosophical life — symposia, hard questions, communal thinking — back into modern Pagan practice. I completely agree with Gwendolyn about the importance of philosophy, in-person discussion, and philosophy as a LIVED experience in the modern day. Send us Fan Mail In this episode, I’m joined once again by John Michael Greer, this time to discuss his newest Aeon Books volume, The Magical Writings of W. B. Yeats. Together, we discuss Yeats as a poet, magician, and highly-trained occult philosopher, with a special focus on the original 1925 edition of his great work, A Vision. We talk about George Yeats and the automatic writing that helped shape the system, as well as the works of Tolkien and Jung, the nature of Imaginal Realms, creative masks, and much more. Send us Fan Mail In this episode, I’m joined by Isaac Hill — occultist, astrologer, musician, gardener, and co-host of the always-fascinating Plant Cunning Podcast. Isaac lives on an herb farm in Central New York State with his wife, AC, and together they have interviewed some of the most important herbalists, occultists, astrologers, and permaculturists working today. He is also the author of The Heathen Golden Dawn and his new book, The Zodiac Garden Guide, which we discuss in this episode. In our conversation, we talk about what it means to create a zodiac garden - not simply as a list of plant correspondences, but as an intersection of astrology, plants, place, magic, and the intelligence of the garden itself. (A garden as an astrological talisman, in a sense.) Isaac shares how he came to astrology through tarot, music, astrological magic, and permaculture, and we explore tropical and sidereal astrology, plant correspondences, and the balance between magical perception and practical gardening knowledge. This year's Plant Cunning Conference will be happening July 24–26, 2026, on AC and Isaac’s land in Central New York State. Sadly I won’t be there this year because I’ll be traveling, but I was grateful to present and attend in previous years, and I highly recommend checking it out if you can make it — or visiting the Plant Cunning website and podcast either way, to learn more. -- Find Isaac Hill online - Buy the Zodiac Garden Guide: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GW7F2KRP Plant Cunning Podcast on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/plantcunning/ The Plant Cunning Conference: https://plantcunningconference.com/ The Plant Cunning Podcast on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@plantcunning --- Upcoming Events with JoAnna: July 28, 2026: Workshop at The Atlantis Bookshop in London Atlantis events and booking information: https://theatlantisbookshop.com/atlantis-events/ Aug. 15, 2026: The Diviner's Path Book Event at The Serpent's Key in Hanover, PA - The Serpent's Key Shoppe and Sanctuary September 4–7, 2026: TempleFest at Prindle Pond Conference Center in Charlton, Massachusetts Registration closes July 24: https://templefest.templeofwitchcraft.org/ Support Coffee and Divination My new book, The Diviner’s Path: A Nature-Led Approach to Divination with Tarot, Runes & Pendulums, is now available: https://amzn.to/4e6EXH9 Thank you so much for the support the book has already received. Send us Fan Mail In this episode, I welcome Kimberly Steele, author of Sacred Homemaking: A Magical Approach to a Tidier Home. Kimberly’s work invites us to approach the home as a living, ensouled place — one shaped by gratitude, attention, care, and relationship. We talk about her path from tarot into Druidry, why she wrote Sacred Homemaking as a practical entry point for people returning to spiritual life, and how small acts like cleaning one corner, thanking the bed, sweeping the floor, or even tending the toilet can become powerful magical practices. We also discuss clutter, protection, discernment, household spirits, haunted objects, consumerism, perfectionism, ancestors, music as prayer and spellcraft, and so much more. Send us Fan Mail In this episode, I welcome my friend and returning guest Ivy Bromius of Circle Thrice back to the show. Ivy and I have known each other for a number of years, and her work brings together a wonderfully unusual - and extremely useful -combination of professional project management, practical enchantment, and magical timing through tarot and other divinatory arts. We begin with risk: how can divination help us look toward the future without becoming trapped by fear? Ivy explains why thoughtfully considering what could go wrong is not the same as magically causing it to happen—and why facing a possible risk can actually make us feel more empowered, and capable of changing our course. We discuss the emotional reality of fear, and explore courage and sovereignty: the ability to act according to our values, and work toward something better for ourselves, our families, and our communities. Send us Fan Mail In this episode, I welcome my friend Beck Ravenswood to the show - witch, tarot reader, and owner of The Serpent’s Key Shoppe in Hanover, PA. Beck shares the story of discovering tarot as a teenager, receiving the dream that helped inspire The Serpent’s Key, and creating a thriving, interfaith community space devoted to magic, education, and connection. We also discuss the legal fight that has placed Beck and their shop at the center of a much larger conversation about divination, religious practice, freedom of speech, and Pennsylvania’s archaic fortune-telling law. Before Beck’s shop had even officially opened, Hanover police warned them that offering paid tarot readings could violate a statute dating back to the nineteenth century. Beck is now challenging that law through an ongoing lawsuit, while Pennsylvania House Bill 1562 seeks to repeal it. Along the way, we talk about the difference between fraud and legitimate divinatory practice, ethical tarot reading, building real-world Pagan community, interfaith dialogue, and the courage required to live openly and authentically. (And of course, we aren't lawyers, and are not qualified to offer any legal advice.) --- A Note on Civic Engagement We believe there is tremendous value in learning who represents us locally and taking part in respectful civic dialogue around issues that matter to us and our neighbors. That does not require everyone has to agree about politics, religion, or spiritual practices. It means communicating respectfully, and remembering that we all share communities with people whose backgrounds and beliefs may differ from our own. If these issue matter to you, please consider contacting your representatives. Pennsylvania residents can ask their state legislators to support HB 1562 and the repeal of Section 7104. Listeners outside Pennsylvania can still contact their own representatives, share information about the issue, and encourage dialogue with their Pennsylvania colleagues. Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Coffee and Divination , I welcome author, witch, educator, and biological scientist Sian Sibley for a fascinating conversation on plant spirits, pagan ecology, animism, geomancy, and ethical magical practice. We explore what it means to truly treat plants, stones, incense, trees, and the land itself as living beings in relationship with us — and why that changes how we practice magic. Send us Fan Mail In this episode, I’m joined once again by Dr. Alexander Cummins — historian of magic, diviner, and teacher of early modern cunning craft—for a deep and grounded conversation on working with spirits as allies in magical and divinatory practice. In This Episode, We Discuss: - What “ancestral practitioners” are, and how they differ from general ancestor work - Historical examples of working with the magical dead - Reciprocity, obligation, and relationship in spirit work - What it actually means to test spirits in practice - Geomancy and the role of appropriate questions in spirit contact Links and More: TempleFest (New England, September 2026) – where both Dr. Al and I will be presenting this year. https://templefest.templeofwitchcraft.org/ Dr. Al's Website: https://www.alexandercummins.com/ Classes and Courses with Dr. Al: https://www.alexandercummins.com/classbundles About the Show, and JoAnna: The Diviner’s Path: A Nature-Led Approach to Divination with Tarot, Runes & Pendulums , by JoAnna, is now available for pre-order: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0738782432/ Pre-orders make a huge difference in helping a book reach more readers, so if you’ve been planning to pick up a copy, this is a wonderful way to support the work. We discuss Laura’s newest book, Tarot by Tempest: Playing with Numbers, Meaning & Movement , and why play is a vital part of divination: it's often the doorway back into creativity, intuition, and real insight. (A topic I'm very passionate about as well!) In this episode, we discuss How movement and embodiment shift the way we read symbols (and how to “get out of your head” at times.) Send us Fan Mail In this episode, I’m joined by Solomon Pakal - founder of the Mayan Mystery School, historian, and longtime occult practitioner - for a conversation on astrology, tarot, and the depth of Maya traditions of magic and divination. We speak about his perspective on tarot, the importance of understanding divination within a larger cultural and cosmological framework, and the vastness of Maya magical and divinatory traditions. This is a conversation about worldviews as much as methods —about what becomes possible when we approach older traditions with seriousness, humility, and curiosity. Send us Fan Mail My guest in this episode is Mhara Starling , a Welsh folk Witch raised on the Isle of Anglesey. Mhara is a fantastic speaker, teacher, and author, and I met her for the first time at the Sacred Space conference this past year. It was wonderful to have her on the show! In this conversation, we focused on Welsh Fairy lore and practices, and how that living tradition of relationship meets the arts of divination: omen-reading, scrying, working with the land, and ethics and good boundaries for working with Fairies in the modern world. I really appreciated learning from Mhara in this show, and I hope you enjoy the discussion. Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Coffee and Divination, I’m joined by Dr. Gwendolyn Reece: Pagan priestess, theosophist, witch, and author of "The Waters of Mnemosyne." We discuss her wonderful new book, her work leading sacred pilgrimages to Greece, and her role in fostering deep spiritual community through ritual, scholarship, and devotion. Our discussion touched on sacred memory in Orphic traditions, household religion and community, philosophy and living a good, human life, and the ways modern polytheists and mystics are reclaiming wisdom traditions. These are all topics that both Gwendolyn and I are very passionate about, and I really enjoyed hearing her thoughts and expertise regarding all of it. I hope you do as well! Send us Fan Mail In this episode, I'm joined once again by author and esoteric scholar Peter Mark Adams, whose newest work - Ritual and Epiphany in the Mysteries of Mithras: The Secret Cult of Saturn in Imperial Rome - offers a profound look into one of the most enigmatic mystery traditions of the ancient world. We explore the sacred cosmology of Mithras, the structure and symbolism of the cult’s initiatory grades, and how these rites relate to the broader lineage of Orphic and Platonic spirituality. Along the way, we discuss ritual space, visionary experiences, and how these ancient practices can inform and aid seekers and practitioners today. Please note: Later in the episode, we also touch on topics such as entheogens, intense ritual work, and transformational spiritual practices. Neither Peter nor I are medical professionals, nor do we endorse any illegal activities, and all listeners should thoroughly research and approach these topics with caution, and seek the advice of licensed experts. --- Find out more about Peter Mark Adams: Peter's Website: https://petermarkadams.com Purchase "Ritual and Epiphany in the Mysteries of Mithras": https://theionpublishing.com/shop/pma Join Peter in Turin, Aug. 31 - Sept. 3rd, 2025: Sola-Busca - HOUSE OF ZOPHIEL --- Connect with Coffee & Divination: Find us on Instagram: @coffeeanddivination Our Website: [www.coffeeanddivination.com] ( http://www.coffeeanddivination.com ) Theme music: "Come with Me" by JoAnna Farrer, featuring Alasdair Fraser, Natalie Haas, and Yann Falquet - JoAnna Farrer - Come With Me (Official Lyric Video) Ending music: "Pollen Path" by Elana Low.
