  1. FFOD343 : What an Outfitter Knows with Kevin Burleson

    Sep 15, 20261 hr 4 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I’m catching up with my friend Kevin Burleson from Heart of Texas Bowhunting. Kevin has been outfitting hunters for decades and has probably seen just about everything that can happen when you put a bowhunter in the woods. We talk about some of the things that can make the difference between a good hunt and a frustrating one. We also talk about Heart of Texas and how Kevin has worked to give everyday bowhunters an opportunity to experience some incredible Texas hunting without breaking the bank. 2. FFOD342 : That Tuesday Morning

    Sep 8, 202654 min

Send us Fan Mail I don’t think any of us will ever forget where we were on the morning of September 11, 2001. My oldest daughter Amy was just out of college and traveling for work near Washington, D.C. when the attacks began. When the Pentagon was hit, airports across the country closed and Washington started shutting down. Her husband Kevin and I did the only thing we knew to do. We got in my truck in Mississippi and went to get her. For this episode, Lauran sat down with Amy and me and asked us to tell the story of that day from our own perspectives. Neither of us heard what the other had said. She’s taken those conversations and woven them together with the actual news broadcasts from that morning as everything unfolded in real time. Twenty five years later, there are things about that day I remember like they happened yesterday. This is our family’s story of that Tuesday morning and one I don’t think any of us will ever forget. 3. FFOD341 : On His Own Terms with Dr. Warren Strickland

    Sep 1, 20261 hr 36 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I sit down with one of the most interesting men I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting with, Dr. Warren Strickland. Warren is a renowned cardiologist, a world class sporting clays shooter and one of the few bowhunters to complete the archery Super Slam. His hunting career and accomplishments would be impressive enough on their own, but it’s the way he’s gone about it that caught my attention. We talk about getting started without a mentor and a lifetime spent simply trying to be the best he could be. No audience. No need for attention. Just quietly doing things on his own terms. 4. FFOD340 : Whitetails From a Different View

    Aug 25, 20261 hr 22 min

Send us Fan Mail Every now and then I sit down with somebody and realize pretty quick we’re probably going to need more time. Derrick Dixon was one of those guys. This week we’re talking about how Derrick found his way into the outdoor world and eventually into whitetail research. And he’s doing some of that research in a way I never would’ve dreamed of years ago… with drones. We get into what he’s learning by looking at deer from a completely different perspective, how this technology is being used in research and what it may teach us about an animal most of us have spent a lifetime trying to understand. We ran long on this one and could’ve easily kept going. Derrick is an interesting guy with a great story and I think you’re going to enjoy meeting him as much as I did. 5. FFOD339 : Old Friends & Fishing Holes

    Aug 18, 20261 hr 14 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I’ve got an old friend in the camo cave, Rick Dillard. Rick and I go back a long way. Some of you Hunting the Country viewers may even remember him from a few shows way back when. Rick is a fisheries biologist with the U.S. Forest Service and has spent his career working with fish and wildlife, but his love for the outdoors started long before it became his profession. We talk about his grandmother taking him fishing when he was a little boy, pick his brain on pond management and what it takes to grow and manage good fish, and reminisce about some of those early Mossy Oak and Hunting the Country days. Rick has been a friend for many years, and it sure was good having him sitting across from me telling stories again. 6. FFOD338 : A Conversation with Governor Phil Bryant

    Aug 11, 20261 hr 8 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I sit down with my friend, former Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant. Most folks know Phil from his years in public service, but I’ve always known him as someone who genuinely loves the outdoors, our hunting traditions and this great country. We talk about where that passion began, how hunting and conservation have shaped his life and why it’s important to have leaders who understand the values of the people they serve. Thank you for listening! 7. FFOD337 : We Hunt Too with Lou Hill & Dr. Stacey P. Gill

    Aug 4, 20261 hr 12 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Lou Hill and Dr. Stacey P. Gill of WeHunt2 WeFish2. I first met these guys through our shared love of the outdoors and it didn’t take long to realize we had a whole lot more in common than hunting and fishing. We talk about how they found their way into the outdoors, why they’re so passionate about introducing others to it and what hunting and fishing have meant to their lives. They’re doing a great job of encouraging folks to get outside and experience everything God’s creation has to offer. I’ve always believed there’s room for everybody in the outdoors. The more people we can introduce to hunting, fishing, and conservation, the better off we’ll all be. 8. FFOD336 : Crossing the Line with Bart Adams

    Jul 28, 202659 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I’m visiting with Bart Adams, an attorney, prosecutor, former municipal judge and he also happens to be a turkey thug. We’re talking about how hunters can find themselves on the wrong side of the law. Sometimes it’s an honest mistake. Sometimes it’s poor judgment. And sometimes somebody knowingly crosses the line. Bart shares his perspective from years spent in the courtroom and public service. Good info to know before you head into the woods. 9. FFOD335 : Let’s Go Outside

    Jul 21, 202651 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I’m talking about something that’s been on my mind for a while.. getting kids outside. It doesn’t have to be a hunting trip or a fishing trip. Sometimes it’s as simple as taking a walk in the woods or turning over rocks in a creek. (Or looking for a big, hairy Cryptid, if you know you know.) As I look back on raising kids and watching my grandkids grow up some of my favorite memories started with one simple decision .. let’s go outside. 10. FFOD334 : Asking Tractor Mike

    Jul 14, 20261 hr 0 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I’m joined by Mike Wiles, better known online as Ask Tractor Mike . Whether you own a compact tractor, an old farm tractor or you’re thinking about buying your first one.. this episode is full of practical advice. We cover tractor safety, common mistakes, implements, buying advice and a whole lot more. With so many of us spending time working our food plots, farms and hunting properties, I wanted to hear from someone who’s spent a lifetime around tractors. If you’ve ever climbed into the seat of a tractor (or plan to) this conversation is well worth your time. Thanks for listening! 11. FFOD333 : Not a Single Critter

    Jul 7, 202647 min

Send us Fan Mail Sometimes I think we take ourselves (and our hunting and fishing) a little too seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had the passion and been completely consumed by it. But if I had to rank my most precious outdoor memories.. I don’t think a single critter would make the top 50 list. I’ll admit, at my age my memory bank is pretty loaded, so I may have an unfair advantage. Most of those memories happened around a hunting or fishing trip, camp, or gathering, which speaks volumes all by itself. This week I’m taking a trip back through some of those memories, sharing the stories behind them and why they’ve stayed with me all these years. 12. FFOD332 : Becoming an Asset with Ted Nugent

    Jun 30, 202653 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I’m joined by my longtime friend and blood brother, Ted Nugent, for one of the most candid conversations we’ve ever had. With Independence Day right around the corner, we talked about much more than hunting. Ted shares how his upbringing shaped the man he became, why he believes every one of us should strive to be an asset to our families, communities, and country, and the values that have guided him throughout his life. We also discuss his recent inductions into both the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame and the Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame, what those honors mean to him, and why his greatest accomplishments have very little to do with awards. 13. FFOD331 : How We Got Hunting on the Golf Channel

    Jun 23, 20261 hr 0 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I’m pulling back the curtain on one of the most unique projects Mossy Oak has ever launched, Second Season . Back when the show first aired on the Golf Channel, the idea of blending golf and hunting audiences was anything but a sure thing. Looking back now, it seems obvious. Back then, it felt a little crazy. Somehow, through a lot of hard work and great people.. it all came together. This week I’m sharing the story behind the show, the people who made it happen, the challenges we faced, and why the crossover between golf and hunting was far more significant than most people realized. There are a few behind the scenes stories in here that I think you’ll enjoy. 14. FFOD330 : Fathers, Mentors & Heroes

    Jun 16, 20261 hr 1 min

Send us Fan Mail This week’s episode is all about fathers. With Father’s Day upon us, we asked our listeners to share stories about the men who shaped their lives, and y’all delivered. Some of these stories are about great dads. Others are about grandfathers, mentors & coaches who stepped in when they were needed most. Some take place in deer camps and dove fields.. others have nothing to do with hunting at all. But every one of them reminds us how powerful a good man’s influence can be. Lauran and I read your stories and found ourselves laughing one minute and fighting back tears the next. This is one of the most heartfelt episodes we’ve ever done. To all the fathers, father figures and mentors out there.. thank you for the example you set. Happy Father’s Day. 15. FFOD329 : What Every Outdoorsman Should Know About Alpha-Gal Part 2

    Jun 9, 202656 min

Send us Fan Mail Last week’s conversation about Alpha-Gal syndrome generated a lot of interest.. so we’re back with Part 2. Once again, I’m joined by Dr. David Allen, a healthcare professional who has personally lived with Alpha-Gal for more than two decades. In this episode, we dive deeper into the realities of living with Alpha-Gal, including common misconceptions, hidden triggers, long-term outlook, prevention strategies, and what every hunter and outdoor enthusiast should understand about tick-borne illnesses. We also discuss why cases continue to rise and what steps you can take to protect yourself and your family while enjoying the outdoors. If you spend any amount of time in the woods (or heck, outside) this is information worth knowing. 16. FFOD328 : What Every Outdoorsman Should Know About Alpha-Gal

    Jun 2, 202650 min

Send us Fan Mail We’ve been hearing more and more about Alpha-gal syndrome and because so many of us spend our lives outdoors, I wanted to spend some time digging into this important topic. So this week I’m joined by Dr. David Allen, a healthcare professional who has personally lived with Alpha-gal syndrome for more than two decades. That unique perspective gives him insight not only as a medical expert, but as someone who understands the actual challenges that come with this condition. We discuss how Alpha-gal develops, why cases are increasing, symptoms to watch for, common misconceptions, diagnosis, treatment options and what every hunter, landowner and outdoor enthusiast should know about tick borne illnesses. Please join us for an important conversation that could impact you or someone you know. 17. FFOD327 : Be Kind & Shoot Turkeys with Scott Branca

    May 26, 20261 hr 2 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I’m sitting down with Scott Branca from Branca Boys Spurs. Most turkey hunters know Scott from his incredible replica spur creations and custom knives but there’s a whole lot more to the man than craftsmanship. We talked turkeys .. how a hunt back in 1994 changed his life forever and why turkey hunting gets so deep in a man’s soul. Scott is one of those humble, steady people you’re thankful to know. The kind of man who quietly pours his heart into everything he creates. I believe y’all are really gonna enjoy this conversation. 18. FFOD326 : Heck, I Did It

    May 19, 20261 hr 1 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I’m sitting down with the guys from Great Plains Ag to talk summer food plots. Folks tend to overthink it sometimes, but the truth is it doesn’t have to be complicated. Heck… I did it. We’re talking timing, planting tips, mistakes to avoid, and ways to make your property better without turning it into a full time job. If you’ve been thinking about putting in a summer plot but weren’t sure where to start, this one’s for you. Stay connected with Fist Full of Dirt: Instagram: @ffodpodcast Instagram: @moplandforsale Twitter: @FistDirt TikTok: @originalturkeythug Instagram : @CuzStrickland Twitter: @CuzStrickland Facebook: @CuzStrickland YouTube: Cuz411

  19. FFOD325 : He Thought He Was Getting a Phone Call

    May 12, 20261 hr 9 min

Send us Fan Mail This week’s episode is a little different and it’s one that means a whole lot to me. A few weeks ago I got a message from a family down in Georgia about a man named Jeff Daniel who was going through one of the hardest seasons of his life after losing his wife earlier this year. They thought maybe a short phone call from me might lift his spirits a little. Instead, I loaded up and drove to Georgia. What followed was one of the most meaningful weekends I’ve had in a long time. We shared supper, swapped stories and hunted together the next morning. But what I didn’t fully realize until later was just how much that time meant to Jeff and his family. Without me knowing it, “Laureen” reached out to Jeff’s grandson Clint and recorded their side of the story and hearing it for the first time on this podcast reminded me that sometimes the greatest part of hunting has very little to do with the hunt itself. 20. FFOD324 : Miles Apart

    May 5, 202648 min

Send us Fan Mail This week I’m in the middle of the spring turkey run, and it’s been a good one. I’m sharing two hunts that couldn’t have been more different… but both meant a lot. First, a road trip out to Nebraska with two of my grandsons where Cranky wrapped up his Grand Slam. There’s nothing like watching that happen and being there for it. Then, back closer to home, an unexpected hunt with my youngest daughter, Lauran. No big plans, no pressure.. just time together in the turkey woods. (And we made it count!) Two hunts, two stories and a reminder that it’s not always about the distance traveled or the tag filled, it’s about who you’re with when it happens.
