Fed up with backpacks that weren’t quite right and often not versatile enough, he has created a system where different components can be added or clipped on dependant on the adventure. Send us Fan Mail Episode 166: Marc Berry, President of the Sea Wolves Dive Club This week we are joined by Marc Berry, the President of the Sea Wolves Dive Club to chat about all things SA Diving and in particular to chat about their recent dives on the new artificial reef off Wirrina. Marc also tells us about the club - they have over 100 members, meet weekly in the southern suburbs, have a number of trips every year and also love to have a drink and share stories. We hear about some of the best dives off the Adelaide coast and compare the best methods for catching Crayfish. Having first joined us in April 2024, Jet is back for another chat about all that he has been up to! He is slowly but surely taking over the IFish TV show from his dad, has recently visited SA to fish all around Port Lincoln and also presented at a Flathead Forum for RecFish SA. He has also been smashing the fish off the east coast of Tassie, including an epic day out catching a Marlin, Swordfish and Yellowfin Tuna all in the one day! But the fish he still wants to tick off his bucket list - a Samson Fish, right here in SA! We also chat about all of the news in SA fishing: Cuttlefish numbers at Whyalla have been low, but some optimism now that they may have arrived, albeit a bit late! Boat speed cameras installed to tell boaties if they are abiding by the 4 knot speed limit in a few locations across the state. 50 Tonne of Kingfish dies off Port Lincoln with a link to Algal bloom! Reef modules are in the water off Nepean Bay KI, while the Sea Wolves Dive Club have dived on the artificial reef off Wirrina. Send us Fan Mail Episode 164: Trigger, Australian Salmon Fishing Championship - Elliston This week we are joined by Ashley Traeger, or Trigger as he is widely known, to discuss the Australian Salmon Fishing Championship which is held annually over winter in Elliston and has just got under way. Trigger has fished in and been involved in the competition over a number of years and shares all of the information about entering the comp and also runs through the epic prizes that are on offer for the biggest Salmon and also for weekly mystery weight prizes. He also fills us in on everything else that is biting in Elliston and some of his own fishing pursuits. As always, we have all of the latest fishing news from right across SA including: Round 5 of the Lets Go Fishing Competition is open and first prize has already been snapped up, with 2nd and 3rd still up for grabs! Local council is looking to charge visitors to dive with the iconic Giant Cuttlefish at Whyalla. Dizzy tries to explain a potential fix for the Algal Bloom, if anyone can explain the ‘Gyroid sponge system’ we are all ears! Send us Fan Mail Episode 163: Brad Towler, Fleurieu Charters This week we have a huge guest who has made some SA Fishing history in the last few days, catching a barrel sized Southern Bluefin Tuna off the Fleurieu Peninsula. After first seeing some massive fish on the sounder and having his school Tuna gear spooled, he returned the next day with heavier tackle and sealed the deal! Brad gives us an insight into how hes been catching them over multiple trips out this week, plus talks us through a slower than normal School Tuna season but strong recent form on Whiting, Gummy sharks and reef species! This is a chat not to be missed and very timely with these fish only being caught for the first time this week! Algae numbers on the rise in Port Lincoln. A huge illegal haul of 240 Blue Swimmer Crabs, many of which were undersized. Tyson is the skipper of Want To Fish Charters and works out of Port MacDonnell in the winter and Wirrina in the summer. Tys has had a ripper start to the season of giant Southern Bluefin Tuna, having caught 18 ‘Barrel’ sized tuna so far this season. He tells us about the recent Port MacDonnell Offshore Angling Comp, including his epic first day catching 7 Barrels. He also recalls an epic recent catch of a 100+ kilogram Mako Shark and also gives us a wrap up of what was a relatively slower season of fishing off Wirrina over the warmer months. Send us Fan Mail Episode 161: Adam from Aeroo Drones This week we are joined by Adam from Aeroo Drones to chat about their unique Australian owned fishing drone. It can carry and deploy a 1kg bait out into the ocean, can fly in 50kmph winds and can capture it all in 4k video and 12 MP photos! We chat about Adam’s own fishing and talk about how the Aeroo company began and how it has grown, now having over 10,000 customers across Australia. Adam reported that SA was its 3rd biggest market and we discussed some of the great spots your could use it across the state, including the Coorong for Mulloway, Port Lincoln for sharks, Snapper across the state and even maybe a Tuna off Victor Harbor when they come in close to shore! We also discuss the big news in SA fishing this week, with the state government announcing changes to the bag limits of the 4 key species affected most by the Algal Bloom restrictions. Squidding is banned in both gulfs, the spatial closure on Whiting around the bottom of Yorkes is back for 3 months - but Spencer Gulf returns to full normal limits, garfish is closed in Gulf of St Vincents while crabbing limits are back to normal across the state. Our tackle item of the week is the new Ledge Runner lure from Shimano. This revolutionary lure comes in 2 sizes: 160 and 200mm and has the ability to swim at different depths, depending how you set the ring at the front of the lure + comes with a Hydro Control wind to maintain a stable swimming action. Codey talks us through his journey to owning the shop and talks us through the wide variety of fish on offer in the area including big Flathead and Samson Fish, both of which are fishing well at the moment. We also chat about the boom in jetty fishing recently after some $10,000 Salmon were recently tagged as a part of the Lets Go Fishing Competition that has been running across the state. We also chat a lot about Tuna, including his own barrel stories, his experience with the Port Lincoln Tuna Classic and the famous purple Halco lure he designed and has had great success with! We are joined by Ted, Pobs and Steve who fished aboard NED, the winning boat in the Calcutta Competition! The boys tell us the story of their weekend and how they caught a big fish in an unusual way that netted them a $140k prize! The boys were super deserving winners, have great individual stories and came together at the last minute to form the winning combination! He talks us through some of his successful years, why he loves the competition and how he is preparing for this weekend's competition. Andy really sums up what is great about the Port Lincoln Tuna Classic, he competes really hard on the water and then enjoys the social side of the event, having a drink and bantering with other competitors as much as anyone! We are also lucky to be joined for part of the news segment by Asher Dezsery from RecFish SA to discuss the announcements made by Peter Malinauskas in the lead up to the election. Asher fills us in on what is planned for the new Recreational Fishing Authority, what RecFish can do with further funding over the next 4 years and also touches on what the Opposition has proposed if they are successful and also an update on tagging of fish for future rounds of the Let’s Go Fishing Competition! We also explain a competition we are running for our listeners to celebrate the Port Lincoln Tuna Classic, we are giving away a Shimano Socorro 10,000 (which is also our tackle item of the week) for whoever can get ‘closest to the pin’ of how many Tuna our boat will catch over the 2 day weekend! He is able to tell us about his own fishing journey, discuss what to expect on a day out fishing for Barra or in the Blue Water and also discusses the iconic Million Dollar Barra Competition. There are 11 Million Dollar Barra and a further 82 tagged fish worth $10k each still swimming around, with a further $100k up for grabs for the biggest of these tagged fish caught throughout March. He is the RecFish SA Director for the Riverland and Reservoirs and has caught more Callop and Murray Cod than most! Danny talks about his own fishing and some of the work he has done over recent years, having worked extensively throughout the sector, including Murray Cod management, implementing recreational fishing in our reservoirs and he currently represents the Rec fishing community on the Marine Scale Fishery Management Advisory Committee. Danny has also just joined the RecFish SA board having also been involved in the past and he also talks about the fun times he has had working part time at SportFishing Scene in recent years. What started as a simple idea has grown to over 32k Facebook followers and over 175,000 youtube views. Andy talks us through how he sets up the go pro to get top quality video and photos, chats about Scuba and Free diving and talks us through what he has witnessed with the devastation of the algal bloom, but now luckily he is seeing some signs of improvement.
