Welcome to my podcast! Some of you know me as a social media strategist, speaker, author or entrepreneur, but, like so many of us, I wear multiple other hats. In this podcast, I plan to share with you more about what makes me tick, my backstory, how I think about business, parenting and so much more. Of course this wouldn't be a Katie Lance podcast if we didn't talk about social media from time to time!

Do you ever sit down to create content and immediately think, “I have no idea what video to make?" You’re not alone – and creating video content doesn’t have to be complicated. In this episode of The Katie Lance Podcast, I’m sharing four simple types of videos that real estate agents can keep in their back pocket and rinse and repeat throughout the month. We’ll talk about: – Simple B-roll videos you can create from clips already on your phone – How to create a “day in the life” video without filming every second of your day – Why an end-of-month recap is one of my favorite low-lift pieces of content – Why talking directly to the camera is still one of the most powerful things you can do to build trust and generate business – How batching your videos can make consistency so much easier Here’s the big reminder: people want to hear from YOU. AI can help you brainstorm, optimize and save time – but it shouldn’t replace your voice. If you want your content to help you stand out, build relationships and ultimately generate leads, people need to get a sense of who you are and what you’re all about. You don’t need fancy equipment. You don’t need every video to be perfect. Done is better than perfect! Which of these four video ideas are you going to try first? What if getting better at social media and video wasn’t about doing more – but about getting comfortable doing the simple things consistently? In this #GetSocialSmart Academy Spotlight, I’m chatting with Deborah West, a Broker Associate in the Chicagoland area, longtime Academy member, and Mastermind attendee. Deborah and I talk about her journey with social media, what she’s learned through the Academy, and why “done is better than perfect” continues to be such an important reminder. We also get into something I think a lot of real estate professionals can relate to: social media keeps changing! Deborah shares a funny “reverse aha moment” from our Mastermind when she arrived with a detailed content plan – only to hear me say that my recommendations had evolved. 😄 That’s the reality of marketing today. What worked a few years ago – or even last year – may not be what I recommend today. Being willing to learn, adjust, and keep moving forward is so important. One of my favorite parts of our conversation is Deborah’s advice for anyone nervous about video. Her suggestion? Start by sending simple birthday videos. No editing. No posting publicly. No pressure. Just a quick “Happy birthday!” video sent privately to someone you know. It’s such a simple way to get used to seeing yourself on camera, hearing your voice, and building the habit of recording video. Think of it as training wheels for video! In this episode, we talk about: – Why consistency matters more than perfection – How the Academy has impacted Deborah’s business and marketing – The value of community, accountability, and ongoing learning – Why your social media strategy needs to evolve – Deborah’s experience attending our Mastermind – Why investing in yourself can be one of the best investments in your business – A simple way to start building your video confidence today Whether you’re brand new to social media or you’ve been creating content for years, I hope Deborah’s story reminds you that you don’t have to have everything figured out. Start small. Stay consistent. Keep learning. And remember – done is better than perfect! CONNECT WITH DEBORAH WEST Deborah is a Broker Associate serving the Chicagoland area. How do you find your voice on social media – especially when it feels like everyone else is already saying the same things? In this episode, I’m talking about something I believe is incredibly important when it comes to social media, video, personal branding, and even using AI: knowing what YOUR voice actually sounds like. Finding your voice doesn’t mean coming up with the perfect tagline or trying to create some polished version of yourself. It starts with getting clear about who you are, who you want to work with, what matters to you, and the experiences that have shaped you. I’m breaking it down into four simple questions you can ask yourself: Who do you love working with? Who isn’t the right fit for you? What matters to you personally and professionally? What is your journey, and how did you get to where you are today? For my real estate friends, this is especially important. There are thousands of agents creating content every day. Your voice, your perspective, your personality, and your experiences are what can help your content stand out. You don’t need to sound like everyone else. You also don’t need every video to be perfectly polished. The ums, the ahs, your sense of humor, your interests, your stories – those are all part of what makes you human and relatable. And as we use more AI in our businesses and marketing, I think knowing your own voice is going to become even more important. If you’ve been struggling with what to post, how to show up, or how to make your content sound more like YOU, this episode is a great place to start. What happens when a Realtor goes from feeling nervous about social media to confidently marketing herself online? In this #GetSocialSmart Academy Spotlight, I sit down with longtime Academy member Debbie Teeter , a Realtor serving Metro Atlanta, the surrounding suburbs, and North Georgia. Before joining the Academy, Debbie was relatively new to social media and had tried marketing services that automatically posted content for her. But she realized something was missing – she wasn’t getting the traction, engagement, or connection she wanted. That’s when she decided to take a more hands-on approach to her social media marketing. In our conversation, Debbie shares how the #GetSocialSmart Academy has helped her build confidence, improve her marketing, and continue learning as social media platforms and tools evolve. We talk about: ✨ How Debbie went from feeling nervous about social media to posting consistently ✨ Why automated, generic social media content wasn’t working for her ✨ How ongoing education helped build her confidence as a Realtor ✨ Why she attends #CoffeeWithKatie almost every week ✨ How she uses the Academy’s monthly content calendars and carousel ideas ✨ Why Canva Camp is one of her favorite Academy events each year ✨ The value of Masterclasses, replays, workbooks, and ongoing training ✨ Why community and accessibility matter when learning social media ✨ Debbie’s advice for Realtors considering joining the Academy One thing I especially love about Debbie’s story is that it’s a reminder that you don’t need to grow up with social media to become great at it. You can learn, practice, build confidence, and find a marketing style that feels like you. How do you build a smart social media strategy if you don’t know what’s already working? Before you decide to post more, jump onto another platform, or completely overhaul your content strategy, take a step back and audit your social media presence. In this podcast, I’m sharing a simple social media audit you can do to understand where you are now, what needs updating, what content is performing, and where you should focus your time moving forward. You’ll learn: 📍 How to Google yourself and see what potential clients are finding 📍 Why your social media profiles, photos, bios, links, and brokerage information need to be updated 📍 How to decide which social media platforms deserve your attention 📍 Why you don’t need to be everywhere 📍 How to ask your database where they spend time online 📍 Which social media analytics actually matter 📍 How to review your top-performing content from the last 30, 60, and 90 days 📍 Why reach, engagement, comments, shares, and consistency can help shape your future strategy This is especially important for Realtors, real estate agents, entrepreneurs, and small business owners who want to create a more intentional social media and content marketing strategy. Remember: You don’t need more random content. You need to understand what’s working, what isn’t, and what your audience actually wants before you build your plan. 🔗 Learn more about the #GetSocialSmart Academy: katielance.com/academy 🎤 Looking for a keynote speaker for your next event? katielance.com/speaking 📲 Connect with me on Instagram: instagram.com/katielance ▶️ Subscribe on YouTube: youtube.com/katielance 🌐 More resources: katielance.com
How can video help you build more confidence, visibility, and connection in your real estate business? In this #GetSocialSmart Academy Spotlight, I sit down with longtime Academy member and North Jersey real estate broker associate Betti Russo to talk about her journey with social media, video marketing, confidence, and building a recognizable personal brand. Betti shares the story of one of her first Facebook Lives – when I encouraged her to step outside during one of our Napa Masterminds, hit the LIVE button, and just go for it. That one moment helped change the trajectory of how she showed up online. Today, Betti says people regularly tell her, “I see you everywhere.” Her consistency on social media and video has helped her become more visible in her North Jersey community, get more involved locally, teach others, and even walk into listing appointments with greater confidence. In this conversation, we talk about: * How Betti went from being afraid of video to confidently showing up on camera * Why video builds skills that go far beyond social media * How consistency can make you more recognizable in your local market * Why authenticity matters more than looking or sounding “perfect” * How social media can help Realtors build stronger relationships * The importance of community, connection, and continuing education * Why Betti has remained a #GetSocialSmart Academy member for years * How the Academy helps real estate professionals keep up with an ever-changing marketing landscape One of my favorite reminders from this conversation: Your clients already know what you look and sound like. You don’t need to become someone else to succeed on video. You just need to get comfortable being YOU. 🏡 Ready to get smarter about your social media, video, AI, and marketing? What do you post when you have absolutely nothing to post? If you’re a Realtor, entrepreneur, or small business owner who knows you need to show up consistently on social media – but some days you just don’t know what to say – this video is for you. I’m sharing three simple, low-lift content ideas you can use when you’re feeling uninspired, overwhelmed, or just not in the mood to create another piece of content. In this video, you’ll learn: * How to turn client, colleague, and local business shout-outs into engaging content * Why simple B-roll of your neighborhood or community can make great social media content * How to share what you’re working on without oversharing your personal life * How to batch simple videos ahead of time * Why your content doesn’t always have to be promotional * How to stay consistent without posting every single day One of my favorite ideas? Give someone else the spotlight. So much real estate content is “Look at me! Look at my listing! Look at my award!” Instead, highlight a great client, lender, local business, team member, or someone else in your community. Give people their flowers! And remember: great content doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes a 10-second video of your neighborhood, a cup of coffee, or a quick behind-the-scenes look at what you’re working on is enough. If social media, video, and AI feel overwhelming and you’d like a simpler plan for your real estate business, I’d love to have you inside the #GetSocialSmart Academy. 👉 Join the Academy: https://www.katielance.com/academy MORE RESOURCES: 🎁 Free social media resources: https://www.katielance.com/freebies 📅 Free Content Grid: https://www.katielance.com/contentgrid 🎓 #GetSocialSmart Academy: https://www.katielance.com/academy 🎤 Book Katie Lance to speak: https://www.katielance.com/speaking 📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/katielance ▶️ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/katielance 00:00 Nothing To Post 00:03 Client Shout Outs 01:11 Why Shout Outs Work 01:37 Surroundings B Roll 02:05 Add Music And Text 02:45 Share What You're Doing 03:30 Consistency And CTA Which of these three ideas are you going to try first? AI can help you write social media captions faster… but if you’re copying and pasting exactly what ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini gives you, people can usually tell. In this video, I’m sharing how I use AI to help write social media captions while still making sure the finished post sounds like ME. I’ll walk you through my actual process - from giving AI a video transcript or quick description to reading the caption out loud, shortening it, changing the hook, cleaning up emojis and adding my own personality back in. You’ll learn: * How I use ChatGPT to help write social media captions * Why I never blindly copy and paste AI-generated content * The read-it-out-loud trick I use before posting * What I almost always delete from AI captions * How I personalize hooks and calls to action * Why adding opinions, personality and imperfections matters * How to make AI-generated content sound more human * Why sometimes I skip AI and write the caption myself AI should help you communicate your ideas - not make everyone sound exactly the same. The goal isn’t to make AI write like a human. The goal is to use AI as a starting point and then make sure the final content sounds like YOU. 👇 How are you using AI for your captions? If you've ever felt overwhelmed trying to keep up with social media, this conversation is packed with practical ideas you can implement right away. Did you know you can now reorder your Instagram grid without editing, deleting, or pinning your posts? This is one of my favorite Instagram updates because it gives you more control over how your profile looks when someone visits your page. In this video, I'll show you exactly how to use Instagram's Reorder Grid feature, where to find it, and why I think every Realtor, entrepreneur, and small business owner should be taking advantage of it. You'll learn: • How to reorder your Instagram grid step-by-step • Where to find the Reorder Grid feature • How to move posts without editing or pinning them • Why bringing older content back to the top can increase engagement • How to organize educational content, listings, and personal posts • What to do if you don't see the feature yet One of my favorite strategies is moving older posts that already performed well back into my top 9-12 posts. Everyone seems to be talking about AI, automation, and the latest marketing tools—but what if you're still not comfortable recording a simple video? In this episode, I'm sharing an honest conversation about one of the biggest challenges I see among real estate professionals today: the fear of getting on camera. If you've been telling yourself you're "not a video person," this episode is for you. I share practical, encouraging advice to help you build confidence one small step at a time—including why one-to-one videos are the perfect place to start, why you don't need fancy equipment or a perfect script, and how authenticity will always outperform perfection. We'll also talk about: Why confidence comes from doing, not waiting How to practice video without posting publicly Why one-to-one videos can help you build confidence quickly My simple approach to recording content without overthinking it How batching videos can save you time and reduce stress Why your clients want to connect with the real you—not a polished influencer version of you If you've been waiting until you feel "ready" to start creating video, I hope this episode encourages you to simply hit record. Your future clients don't need perfection—they need your expertise, your heart, and your willingness to show up.
