Gilbert Rowley is one of the most respected educators, filmmakers, and content creators in modern fly fishing. A Utah native, Gilbert earned a degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from Utah State University and has spent decades combining his passion for fishing, entomology, photography, and storytelling. He first gained recognition through instructional fly tying and fishing videos, eventually launching Fly Tying 123 and later building a career as a professional filmmaker through Capture Adventure Media. His work has helped millions of anglers learn everything from fly selection and insect behavior to advanced nymphing techniques. Gilbert is perhaps best known for producing the acclaimed Modern Nymphing films alongside Devin Olsen and Lance Egan. These films helped introduce European-style nymphing techniques to a wider audience and influenced a generation of trout anglers. Beyond instruction, Gilbert has become one of fly fishing's premier storytellers. His films, including Caddis Magic and the popular Buffet series, blend education, adventure, and cinematography, showcasing fisheries across North America and around the world. He has filmed and fished in destinations ranging from Belize and Costa Rica to Canada and throughout the western United States. Today, Gilbert continues to create content focused on helping anglers "crack the code" of fly fishing through observation, understanding aquatic insects, reading water, and making better decisions on the river. His ability to simplify complex topics while inspiring anglers to explore new waters has made him one of the most influential voices in the sport.
