Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 150: Fowl Play! Recording Date: 9/7/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor The long, slow…. Really slow journey to Goldenrod City continues! We noticed a small detail that right away proved that we would not be making it to Goldenrod this episode. Apparently there were some episodes that didn’t follow the Japanese release schedule, with Fowl Play actually releasing almost a month before Love, Totodile Style! Not sure why this episode broke the timeline, but never the less, we journey on! The episode begins with Ash and the crew finding a birdhouse tucked into a tree, when they suddenly see a Noctowl! When Ash pulls out his Dex to scan it, he ends up seeing a man, hidden in the tree shooing the Noctowl away! A small scuffle ensues and we are introduced to Dr. Wiseman, who is studying and watch to catch a Shiny Noctowl! While we have seen unique variants of Pokémon like the Crystal Onix and the Pink Butterfree, this is the debut of an actual Shiny Pokémon. It coincides with the release of Shiny Pokémon in Gold & Silver. It isn;t long before we Team Rocket takes a liking to Shiny Noctowl, and it becomes a free for all to try to catch it. We even see Team Rocket blast off Dr. Wiseman, leaving it up to Ash to save the day. He ends up using multiple Pokémon like Bulbasaur, Chikorita, and Cyndaquil to take on Team Rocket’s giant Noctowl Machine, before sending in Pikachu to finish the job. After Team Rocket is taken care of, Shiny Noctowl challenges Ash to a battle. We see some cool move combinations and battle animations, which lead to an epic battle between Noctowl and Pikachu. Will Pikachu and Ash be able to defeat Noctowl! Check out this week’s episode to find out! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 149 - Love, Totodile Style Recording Date: 9/3/2026 Publish Date: 9/4/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor We placed our bets last week on whether or not we would arrive at Goldenrod this episode, and we both thought it would take at least one more additional episode. We were absolutely correct, as Ash and the crew get caught up in another side quest, this time, following Totodile who has fallen for an Azumarrill!, who is Trained by Trixie. We also meet Trixie’s Golduck, and as it turns out, they are working in a full blown circus! THe circus is the perfect place for a Team Rocket appearance, and we see the Meowth Balloon and some new cage weapons used pretty effectively by Meowth, who captures Pikachu and Azumarill. The Meowth Balloon was then able to sneak away thanks to a Smokescreen from Weezing. They take up in a nearby cabin, only to be spotted by Trixie’s Pidgey in the morning, when we get a quick battle that sends them blasting off. This episode didn’t add much to the story at all. We get some character building with Totodile, but in such a weird way. It is pretty funny that Totodile is just like Brock. Brock was definitely in his glory in this episode, even though he has to leave his latest love, Trixie behind. Beyond that, we are still on route to Goldenrod. Will Ash pull a Pokémon back from Professor Oak, or will he capture his 6th Pokémon for his team? Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 148 Recording Date: 8/24/26 Publish Date: 8/28/26 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor Last week we had a ton of action that will be hard to beat! We saw Poliwag evolve into Poliwhirl and Ash end up with a new Pokémon! All of this happened on their way to Goldenrod City! We have seen Ash and the party complete numerous side quests and diversions on their journey, and this episode is no different! Hot Matches! Begins at a random Pokémon Center with no context given about where they could be! One thing is for certain, we aren’t in Goldenrod City.We meet Miki, who Brock immediately falls for, and we see an immediate battle between her Skarmory and Brock’s Vulpix. We learn quickly that this Skarmory is serious, and that Miki isn’t messing around. Ash steps up to battle and his Cyndaquil is taught a lesson too! Unfortunately, Team Rocket steps in and breaks up the battle. This episode definitely lives up to its name, as the battles are frequent and intense. We see Ash put Cyndaquil through some one on one training, and some cool combinations of attacks like Agility and Tackle. We don’t see much of Team Rocket, and the story wraps up with points for world building and action, but it falls a bit short in terms of moving the story along. Let us know what you think! Will we get to Goldenrod next week? Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 147 Recording Date: 8/17/2026 Publish Date: 8/21/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor Last week we had a side quest of an episode with the party having to deal with a squad of Houndour. We had some expectation of making it to Goldenrod City in this episode but those hopes went out the window early into this episode. We start off with the party fishing in a pond in hopes of watching some water type Pokémon. Misty even busted out her Special Lure which is a recurring item that hilariously is just a miniature version of herself with hooks on it. It doesn’t take long for Totodile to reveal himself and it makes it clear that this episode will be all about him. Ash and Misty immediately but heads about who should catch the Totodile, with Ash even sending out Pikachu with attacks in a very aggressive move. We see some serious competition between the two, even having a formal battle. Togepi makes its battle debut and it is just as awesome as you would think. In the end, Ash ends up catching Totodile, leaving just one more open spot on his team. The battle did have some excitement as Misty’s Poliwag evolved into Poliwhirl. Team Rocket pulls a classic move and gets dressed up in disguises, leading to a battle and Totodile’s first battle under Ash’s guidance. He is fast on its feet, and it takes care of Team Rocket pretty easily. Perhaps we only need to wait one more episode to get to Goldenrod City, but at least we have had some awesome battles to hold us over! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast Recording Date: 8/10/2026 Publish Date: 8/15/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor Last week we made it through a tunnel full of Onix! Will we finally reach Goldenrod City to challenge the Gym Leader? As predicted, we have a fun sidewinder episode that continues the trend of focusing on a single Pokemon species. The party stumbles upon some Pokémon footprints and start to track them down. In a nearby town (not Goldenrod City), we see Nurse Joy and Chansey, who play an important role in this episode. There are a series of thefts happening, including the mystery of Nurse Joy’s stolen ham. Brock sets up a hilarious trap involving wooden sausages and we finally get introduced to Houndour, who happens to be the first Dark-Type Pokémon to be shown in the anime. It leads to an epic battle with a group of Houndour and a bunch of the team’s Pokémon like Pikachu, Cyndaquil, Chikorita, Onix, and Psyduck. We also have the debut of Pikachu using the attack, Leer! If the Houndour weren’t enough, Team Rocket shows up and has a plan to capture the Houndour, which in the end results in the Houndour leader trusting Ash. While we didn’t get to Goldenrod City, this episode had some great battles, Pokemon and attack debuts, and a great story about gratitude. Gotta Watch’em All Podcast Recording Date: 8/4/2026 Publish Date: 8/7/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor On their way to Goldenrod City, we saw the party stumble upon a school for Wooper, where they met Olesia. Brock falls in love, Misty kept him in check, and Ash is still hungry to get to Goldenrod City for his next Gym battle. We begin this episode’s journey with the party arriving at the Onix Tunnel, which you guessed it, is filled with Onix. Ash is confident that the Onix would be no match for his Squirtle, and Misty has a bag full of Water Pokémon as well. They decide to camp out for the night before taking on the tunnel, and we get two all back characters come back to the show… Jigglypuff and Madam Muchmoney’s Snubbull. The next morning we see Team Rocket at the entrance of the tunnel, which turns into some great battles with the Onix. They learn fast that these Onix are not to be taken lightly, as Jesse even resorts to throwing Meowth at one of them! We cut to Ash and crew who are beginning their morning with some warm ups for their journey through the tunnel, when they encounter Snubbull and Jigglypuff. Of course we get to see and hear Jigglypuff put everyone to sleep, including Team Rocket, who surrendered back from the tunnel nearby. This episode’s Team Rocket battle is fantastic. We see Misty’s Poliwag in action, who puts on a show with its Double Slaps. Chikorita and Wobbuffet get into it, but Pikachu was there for the finish to send Team Rocket blasting off. To celebrate, Jigglypuff puts on one more show, putting everyone back to sleep! Maybe next episode we will get to Goldenrod City? Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 144 Recording Date: 7/28/2026 Publish Date: 8/3/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor Will the party reach Goldenrod City during this episode? We all pretty much know that it will be a bit, but here’s to being hopeful! We start off with Brock leading the way with a map and his gut feeling, only to be surprised by a random Wooper. After taking a tumble and getting back to their feet, the party meets Olesia, who is a Wooper Trainer that has a school specifically for Wooper. This is just one of many instances that we have seen where specific Pokémon have buildings, celebrations, or even entire towns themed after them. While Brock is busy falling in love, we see some interesting Training techniques including a tambourine. Misty is astonished by the cuteness and takes part in the Training. While Team Rocket complains that they are starving, Olesia treats Ash and friends to some biscuits, before rushing out to take care of her Mom while leaving the party behind to take care of… everything. Thanks couldn’t go more wrong when Team Rocket shows up to wreak havoc on everything and allow one of the Wooper to scurry off on its own. We see a few arcs happening at once, with poor Togepi left with the tambourine back at the school. We end up seeing a pretty great battle and even have a Wobbofet appearance. When it’s all said and done and time to leave, Brock asks if he could shake up with Olesia, before Misty drags him away by his ear! Maybe the party will arrive at Goldenrod City next episode, but we will have to wait and see! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 143 Recording Date: 7/20/2026 Publish Date: 7/27/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor Last episode we watched Tricks of the Trade and we saw a bunch of battles go down! The battle music and animations have been really stepping up as we get deeper into Gold & Silver. We also get our first introduction to Wobbuffet, whose original Trainer Benny was set on trading it away. There was a wild turn of events that ends up with Jesse trading away her Lickitung to Benny and the long running arc of Wobbuffett and Team Rocket has begun. This episode picks up on the crew’s journey to Goldenrod City. We are threatened to a video call with Professor Oak and see Ash swap his Tauros back, and deposit his Heracross as well. We get some call backs this episode, as Captain Aidan and Team Wartortle show up, followed by Officer Jenny and the Squirtle Squad. This drums up all the feels for Ash’s Squirtle, seeing his old fire fighting team without a leader. The Fire and Rescue Grand Prix is another fun example of the different competitions that Pokémon have in this world. It’s great to think about a world where Pokémon are taken so seriously. Some fun action and commentary takes us to the close of the episode which includes a tough decision and a clear set up for what’s to come! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 142 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor This episode is a bit of a wildcard, with an interesting plot direction, right from the start. Ash and the party are walking in Palmpona when they meet Benny and his Wobbuffet. What makes it interesting is that from the get-go, Benny is looking to trade away his Wobuffett, even though he has trained hard with it. This is the first time in the series that we see a Trainer that is actively looking to trade away their Pokémon, and it does strike a moral chord. During their time in Palmpona, they learn about the Running of the Tauros event, which presents Ash with the opportunity to call Professor Oak to request a transfer of active Pokémon, sending back his Heracross in trade for his Tauros. This leads to an exciting showdown between Ash and Fernando in a Tauros v Tauros mirror match. Ash ends as the victor, which makes Benny want to trade his Wobbuffet for Ash’s Tauros. Benny ends up setting up a trade at a trading machine with a random Trainer for a Stantler, however the other Trainer pulls out at the last minute. A series of unfortunate events leads to Jessie hitting her head on the machine and her Pokéball containing Lickitung hitting the trade machine in just the right spot. This will absolutely cause some confusion later in the episode. We end up getting quite a few battle scenes, with Chikorita putting in some work against Team Rocket’s new and surprising Wobbuffet.Benny ends up super excited about his new Lickitung, and we’re sure Lickitung is happier now that he doesn’t have to deal with Team Rocket. Not putting the pieces of the puzzle together, Ash never realizes that this Lickitung once belonged to Jessie. As for Wobbuffett, he may actually enjoy the Rocket Life, and even gets to have a taste of being blasted off in his first episode! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 141 Recording Date: 5/18/26 Publish Date: 5/24/26 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor Ash was quick to leave Azalea town after acquiring the Hive Badge, and the party is on their way through Ilex Forest. They stumble on a young Trainer who is having a hard time getting his Farfetch’d to properly use cut. Sylvester introduces himself and explains how he is working on gathering materials to create “purifying charcoal”. Brock is familiar with the material, and Ash encourages the Trainer to keep trying. Once at the Pokémon Center, Ash calls Professor Oak on the video phone and fills him in on his recent adventures like the Lure Ball that Kurt gave him and his new Hive badge. Ash’s Pokémon like Muk, Kingler, Snorlax, and Tauros make a cameo as he learns that Goldenrod City will be their next destination. Just after the call, Sylvester comes running into the Pokémon Center in a panic as he has lost his Farfetch’d again. We learn that Sylvester is under immense pressure from his Father Yosaku who regularly reminds him of his shortcomings. The team decides to put a search party together for Farfetch’d, and we see an incredible amount of Pokémon make appearances. While on the hunt, Farfetch’d encounters Team Rocket, and a massive, multi Pokémon battle ensues, and we get to see some serious moves and battling. The battle ends with Sylvester stepping up to command Farfetch’d to get him to use cut on trees, trapping Team Rocket long enough for Pikachu to blast them off. We get a feel good moment back in town, as Yosaku tells Sylvester that he is proud of him. On that high note, the party sets off for Goldenrod City, but not before receiving some charcoal for the road. Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 140: Gettin’ The Bugs Out Recording Date: 5/4/2026 Publish Date: 5/5/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor Pokémon the Series original air dates: Japan: 4/20/2000 USA: 3/17/2001 This episode wastes absolutely no time getting right down to it! We closed last week’s episode knowing that we were on the way to the Azalea Town Gym, now that it is functioning again (thanks to the Slowpoke). What we didn’t know was that as soon as Ash steps foot in the Gym, that an almost full episode length battle was about to go down. We meet the Azalea Town Gym Leader, Bugsy, who you guessed it, is a Bug-Type Trainer. Within minutes, the stage is set with Ash and Bugsy taking their positions on the battlefield. Before long we realize that Bugsy has an all Bug team, with Spinarak being his first choice. With Charizard not available, Ash decides on Cyndaquil to start the battle, having a strong type-advantage. Ash realizes quickly that Cyndaquil needs a little time to warm up, as the Spinarak makes pretty quick work of him before being called back to his Pokéball. Something also worth mentioning is that the battle animations in this episode look incredible, with more details, frames, and the speed lines that we all love. We see Ash bring out Chikorita and Pikachu to help bring things home, but it’s Cyndaquil that closes the deal for the team. We see Bugsy bring out a Metapod who has some fancy moves, and a Scyther, that puts on a show with both Double Team and Sword Dance. Ash has to be quick on his feet to figure out how Cyndaquil’s flames can get past Sword Dance, and a daring move let’s the attack land in spectacular fashion. This battle was awesome. We saw very little of Team Rocket in this episode, as they did show up to the battle only to be accidentally shocked by Pikachu, which of course worked out for everyone. Once the Gym Battle is complete and Ash earns his Hive Badge, Maizie catches up with the team to give them some fresh Apricorn Pokéballs that Kurt made. Ash and Misty take Lure Balls, and Brock takes a Heavy Ball. It was really cool seeing the different types of Pokéballs, especially after learning how they are made! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 139: Going Apricorns Recording Date: 4/27/2026 Publish Date: 5/3/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor We finally make it to Azalea Town! We also get one step closer to understanding the GS Ball! We see Ash hand off the GS Ball to Kurt, who is excited to take a closer look. We won’t have closure on this part of this story arc though, as Kurt has absolutely no idea what the GS Ball is or how it works! Confident he can learn more over time, he will have to hold on to the GS Ball for longer to go into deeper analysis. We actually learn a lot about Poké Balls in this episode, as Kurt has mastered the art of harvesting Apricords and converting them into different types of Poké Balls. This lore is VERY welcomed in a series of episodes that have been tangential to the main quest. With Lane being an expert on Johto, he reveals that unfortunately, we won’t hear about the different types of balls that Kurt makes after this episode. Team Rocket actually turns their priority from kidnapping Pikachu to stealing Kurt’s Apricorn operation. They think if they can make a fortune off of selling the unique Poké Balls. We meet a few Pineco, as they are hanging off of the apricorn trees, and they get involved in a scuffle with Team Rocket. When the dust settles, we see Brock have the opportunity to not only catch a Pineco, but to do it in one of Kurt’s custom Fast Balls. While we haven’t yet reached the Azalea Town gym, it was definitely cool that Brock was able to add a new Pokémon to his roster! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 138 Recording Date: 4/13/2026 Publish Date: 4/14/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor After what seemed like a million episodes of journeying to Azalea Town, it is finally time for us to arrive! As the party approaches the city, the heat begins to get to them, forcing them to take a break. Misty has the great idea to bring out Staryu, which acts as a sprinkler to cool every one off. This opens up the narrative about how the area has been stricken with a drought, and they may need to conserve their water abilities. While the party soldiers on to Azalea Town, Team Rocket decided they would dig in order to beat the heat and find water. With the help of the Super Diglett Mark 2 (their new very expensive and elaborate robot), they bore through the ground with ease before stumbling into a natural water reservoir deep in the caves. That’s when they notice that they are not alone.Surrounded by red eyes in the dark, we learn that this cave is filled with Slowpoke. Back above ground, Ash learns that due to the drought, all Azalea Town businesses, including the Gym, are closed until further notice. If there was only a way to end this drought! Aha! The Slowpoke legends speak that they are rainmakers, so the citizens regard the Slowpoke as their lifeline. Now they just need to figure out how to get the Slowpoke to do… anything. It’s worth pointing out that Azalea Town is also a critical location for the main story, with Ash still needing to deliver the mysterious GS ball to Kurt. The shenanigans begin thanks to Team Rocket, and we meet Kurt in an unexpected place and position. A major battle ensues, resulting in Team Rocket’s captured Slowpoke being freed. This leads to the Slowpoke fulfilling their prophecy and bringing rain to Azalea Town. Soon the land is filled with fresh water and greenery, which only means one thing. The Gym must be open! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 137 Recording Date: 4/6/2026 Publish Date: 4/7/2027 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor With last week’s episode leaving us just outside Azalea Town, we surely should be arriving there this episode… right? The narrator takes the wind out of our Azalea Town sails almost immediately as we see the party lost in the woods, when we meet Koji, a somewhat pushy and aggressive Trainer that is tracking a wild Cyndaquil. Once Ash hears this, he considers it a challenge and breaks off from the pack. That’s when things get interesting. Team Rocket shares some insight on how they had to work odd jobs between their Rocket duties in order to keep up with their villainous lifestyle. They bust out the Meowthinator mech to take on Ash and the crew, and ultimately go after the Cyndiquil, as it is something new for them to hyper fixate on. We see Cyndaquil use a massive Flamethrower on the Meowthinator which sets Pikachu up for the final strike. Just before a the massive explosion, Ash captures Cyndaquil in a Pokéball to shield him from the blast. Ash immediately lets Cyndaquil out, and we can see the bonding already happening. Koji cuts the pleasantries short and challenges Ash for the Cyndaquil, even though he technically already caught it. Ash feels confident after seeing Cyndaquil’s Flamethrower take out the Meowthinator, but things don’t go as planned for Ash, and he has to switch out his typical attack heavy style for something more defensive. In the end, Ash is victorious, and Cyndaquil is now part of the family. Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 136 Recording Date: 3/30/2026 Publish Date: 3/31/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor After the last few episodes focused on a single Pokémon and a unique city or village themed to that Pokémon, we are excited to give it another go and hope that Azalea Town isn’t too far away. This episode starts like most others, with the party walking through the woods. They hear some noises that turn out to be a very early appearance by Team Rocket, along with an adult Trainer and their Scizor. With a title like, Wired For Battle, we are hoping in the least, that if we aren’t talking about Gym Battles, that we would at least see some solid battle footage, and this episode does not disappoint. We get to see 2 different Scizors in action, including one of them in an extended battle with Ash’s Heracross. It’s worth noting that we have seen much less of Pikachu lately, and with Charizard still off training, other Pokémon get a chance to shine. This episode has some great lessons, specifically how the world can be seen through the lens of a computer vs the lens of our own eyes. The episode’s rival, Shingo, is completely enthralled with his laptop, even thinking that battling isn’t necessary since the computer could predict the outcome. Little does he know that Ash isn’t one to follow trends or rules, which makes the finale battle absolutely epic. If you are into seeing some different moves being thrown around, this episode will make you very, very happy. Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 135 Recording Date: 3/23/2026 Publish Date: 3/24/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor Last week we had a fun episode where we met some interesting characters, Gligar Man and his daughter Gligirl who live in a mystery city (because they never told us its name) and boy do they love Gligar there. It carried a similar theme as the last few episodes where the party encountered a community where the focus was on a single Pokémon. This episode continues on that theme. This week, the party encounters what they think is a wild Mareep, only to learn that it is part of a larger Mareep Community. They meet Mary and her little lamb, Fluffy, who takes a liking to Pikachu, as Mareep like to absorb electricity to power themselves up. This also makes their fleece grow larger and more luxurious, making Team Rocket take interest, as the fleece carries a high premium. Something that this episode brings in a big way is some great battle animations. We see some different moves visualized for the first time, and even see Ash mentoring Mary on battling. It was definitely cool seeing Ash be a coach to a younger Trainer, as it is a great vessel for sharing a lesson about the morality of Pokémon Training. With Team Rocket swooping in for a heist of Mareep, we see some great battles from their squad. With Pikachu and the group of Mareep combining their electricity for a major strike on Team Rocket, we see them get blasted off with haste! Perhaps this will be the last detour that they need to take before finally arriving at Azalea Town! The amount of strange detours and a diverse cast of characters continues to interrupt their mission, as we are introduced to Latoya and her masked hero of a dad, Gligar Man! Things start out with the party falling into a good’ol Team Rocket pit as they are walking on the path, only to be rescued by none other than Gligar Man. A stereotypical Superhero with the outfit, cape, and even the voice. This is one of the most interesting side characters we have met so far, and we get to learn more about them when they arrive in town. Turns out Gligar Man was nothing more than a plot to save toys, however thanks to Gligar’s actual desire to fight crime, it they became an actual vigilante team. With Gligar Man well beyond his prime, his daughter Latoya swoops in to take the reigns as Gligirl, who looks incredible and can actually fight too! With her becoming the new secret superhero, her Dad can go back to being Mr. Parker, and running the toy store. Such a fun episode and a worthy detour on the adventure to Azalea Town. When the group is feeling parched they stumbled across a water pipe to drink from, where they meet Sonrisa, who fills their canteens and leads them to Bloomingvale. Once in town we learn about the Sunflora Festival and how the town specializes in Training them. The festival shows us many Sunflora which of course attracted Team Rocket, who disguise Meowth and enter him into the contest. This led to us seeing a different side of Meowth, but not before an all out battle and an appearance from the famous Meowth Balloon. We also had an appearance with Madame Muchmoney’s Snubble, who almost seems like a walking easter egg at this point.
