  1. Pinterest Wins: Pinterest Working While You Make a Pivot

    Sep 2, 202634 min

Pinterest is often talked about like a platform you have to constantly feed — but what happens when you stop? In this episode, I talk with a former TpT seller turned travel creator who hasn't touched Pinterest for her shop in ages... and it's still sending her sales. We dig into why Pinterest content keeps working long after you walk away, what she built early on that's still paying off, and what this means for anyone building a TpT, Etsy, or digital product business who's worried about keeping up with Pinterest forever. If you've ever wondered whether Pinterest effort actually compounds — this is the proof. —------- Here are some helpful links from the podcast: 🗒️To get full show notes, visit Simple Pin Media and click on articles. 🗞️Make sure you grab our newsletter – Pinterest Made Simple 📌 Looking to hire the best Pinterest marketing team? 2. Kate's Take: Quick thoughts on Pinterest marketing #16 – AI tools that are helpful instead of distracting. (Tailwind’s new MCP server)

    Aug 26, 20267 min

You got the email, you're confused, let's break it down So Tailwind sent out an email about something called an MCP server, and if you read it and thought "what does that even mean," you're not alone. Let's break it down simply. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. Think of it as a translator between AI assistants, like Claude or ChatGPT, and the software you already use. Before this, if you wanted an AI to help with a task, you'd copy information out of one app, paste it into your AI chat, get a response, then copy that back into the other app. Clunky. MCP removes that step. It lets your AI assistant talk directly to Tailwind and actually do things inside it. So now, instead of opening the Tailwind dashboard, you can tell your AI assistant to schedule a Pin, and it happens. That's what the email was announcing. Does this fit into your existing workflow, and is it even necessary? Here's the question I'd actually ask if I got that email. If you're already using Tailwind to schedule, does this save you time? Fair question, because scheduling itself isn't really the bottleneck Tailwind already solves. The real time savings comes from cutting out the handoff between drafting your content and publishing it. Right now your workflow could look like this. You draft your pin copy somewhere, then you go open Tailwind, upload the image, paste in the title and description, pick the board, hit schedule. That's two tools and at least one copy-paste step. With MCP, drafting and scheduling happen in the same conversation. You write the pin copy with your AI, and it just does that last step for you. One less tool, one less switch. But I'll be honest with you. If you're just batch pinning of pre-made images with no copy to write, Tailwind's own scheduler is already fast, and this won't feel meaningfully different. It shines when content creation and scheduling are two separate steps you're doing back to back. This collapses them into one. So is it necessary? No. Is it useful if your workflow already starts with writing? Yes. How to leverage AI for your Pinterest marketing If you're going to use AI for Pinterest at all, the highest value spot isn't the scheduling piece, it's the content piece. Use it to draft pin titles and descriptions, brainstorm keyword variations, repurpose a blog post or podcast episode into pin copy, or review what you already have scheduled and catch gaps. The AI is most useful the moment before something needs to be written, not the moment it needs to be clicked. A few questions to ask yourself before you adopt this Before you add any new tool or integration to your workflow, ask yourself these: Does this remove a step I'm already doing, or does it just add a new thing to learn? Is my current bottleneck actually scheduling, or is it content creation? Will I actually use this weekly, or is it a shiny new feature I'll try once and forget? Does this fit how my team already works, or does it require retraining everyone? If you can't answer yes to at least one of those in a way that saves you real time, it's fine to let this one sit for now. Not every new AI feature needs to become part of your process. —------- Here are some helpful links from the podcast: 🗒️To get full show notes, visit Simple Pin Media and click on articles. 🗞️Make sure you grab our newsletter – Pinterest Made Simple 📌 Looking to hire the best Pinterest marketing team? 4. Kate's Take: Quick thoughts on Pinterest marketing #15 – A side project

    Aug 12, 20263 min

There have been some tough things personally happening in the background. I always hate when people share things like this and don’t say what, but that they will share lately. Sitting firmly in that seat, I now understand why they say that. My apologies for adding to that noise. I promise is not a trend or a marketing ploy. Anyway, this tough season has prompted a project for me that has been years in the making. I think it’s lived rent-free in my brain and was waiting for the time to be released. That time is quickly approaching and it’s time to share a bit about what that is. I’m writing a book. That seems so scary to say out loud because it means I have to do it…but previous to the release of the book, I’m writing on Substack about this process and how I got here. I have a passion for small business owners. The ones starting their business from a scary idea and taking the brave leap into action. The ones that grind it out at the kitchen table. Maybe they have little kids and are working during naptime. Maybe they are retired and wonder if they’ve always needed to leap into this venture. Regardless, the business starts and grows. Then there’s this question of hiring, getting help, and not letting the business eat you alive. The spark that ignited the idea slowly feels crushing and worries about what if start to creep in. You want to hire but you don’t know how. You want to take a vacation but honestly, can’t step away from the computer for more than 12 hours. And if we’re being frank, what if tragedy strikes and you need to step away to be present for that, and you’re left with the question to let it all come crashing to the ground or keep working through pain. I believe there is another way. An emergency preparedness plan for your business that allows you to build something you can step away from for a season. That’s what I’m writing about on Substack and the book. The story of how I built my company to be able to step away. Giving you the stories, tools, and leadership ideas I’ve held so closely but haven’t shared. If you’re a business owner who is looking for a path to build an emergency plan for your business that also allows you to take a vacation, I’d for you to follow along. https://substack.com/@kateahl —------- Here are some helpful links from the podcast: 🗒️To get full show notes, visit Simple Pin Media and click on articles. 🗞️Make sure you grab our newsletter – Pinterest Made Simple 📌 Looking to hire the best Pinterest marketing team? 7. Listen Again: How to Write Great Pin Descriptions

    Jul 22, 202612 min

Today we are diving into what makes great Pinterest descriptions and how to write one. This is by far one of the most powerful SEO tools you have for Pinterest. That little section of text tells the Pinterest algorithm and sometimes even Google exactly what your Pin is about. Knowing what makes a great pin description could be the difference between getting your content seen on Pinterest and not. This is a previously aired episode. 9. Listen Again: Are You Getting Caught In This Trap?

    Jul 8, 202624 min

Lately, there’s been a lot of chatter about Pinterest traffic trending downward, and with it comes a whole slew of theories, including algorithm changes, technical glitches, and even the dreaded “AI slop” taking over. I get it. It’s frustrating to watch your numbers dip and not know where to place the blame. But here’s my question: are we spending too much time chasing low-value, $1 tasks like deleting pins or mass-joining group boards, when we should be focusing on higher-return, $10 tasks? In one client case, by leveraging Pinterest trends intentionally, we saw a 119% increase in traffic. It was a reminder that our time is precious, and high-value tasks are what truly move the needle. 10. Listen Again: Pinterest Quality Checklist

    Jun 23, 202619 min

One of the most common questions I get from my community is, “How do I get my pins seen on Pinterest?” Visibility on Pinterest doesn’t just mean more clicks, it can lead to more sales, more email signups, and more traffic overall. Over the years, I’ve learned that quality content always wins . Without it, even the best strategies can fall flat. Recently, as part of the Pinterest Educator Program, I had the opportunity to meet directly with the Pinterest team to learn exactly what they look for when deciding which pins to show. What I discovered was so helpful, I knew I had to share it with you. 11. Kate's Take: Quick thoughts on Pinterest marketing #12 – The summer plan

    Jun 17, 20264 min

During the summer we have run story series, taking breaks, run replays, etc. Honestly there isn’t a perfect rhythm and what we have learned is to be flexible. Due to some circumstances this summer I’m unable to record the story series, but I hope you’ve enjoyed all the interviews I’ve done so far. There will be more of those to come! Over the next 3 episodes we plan to air replays of some of our favorite interviews from the past or episodes that a lot of people have enjoyed or listened to. We hope this summer for you is a place where you can enjoy your vacations, rest, and find delight in things that might be business adjacent or maybe there are business saturated. There is a lot of talk about selling products on Pinterest, but what are the real-world examples, and what does the setup look like? Tara Jacobsen is on that journey, so we wanted to start with an interview with her as she is starting out, and then our plan is to revisit this project in the next 6 months to see if it’s actually working. 15. Kate's Take: Quick thoughts on Pinterest marketing #10 – Breaking down the engineering blog

    May 20, 20266 min

Think of Pinterest's home feed like a TV channel. Pinterest's job is to keep people watching. Not just for five minutes today — but coming back tomorrow, next week, next month. So they've spent years building a system that figures out the best mix of content to show each person. Here's what they learned and changed: Variety keeps people watching. Repetition drives them away. They actually tested this. When they showed people more of the same type of content (even stuff the person seemed to like), engagement went up for one day — then tanked. People got bored and left. So Pinterest now actively mixes things up in your feed on purpose, even if you've been saving a lot of one thing. What this means for you: If you're posting a lot of pins that look nearly identical — same image style, same topic, same colors — Pinterest is going to spread them way out or stop showing them altogether. Not because they're bad, but because showing ten of the same thing in a row is bad for the viewer. Pinterest got a lot smarter about what "similar" means . It used to mostly go by topic category (like "home decor" or "recipes"). Now it looks at the actual image, the words in your description, and the topic — all at the same time. So you can't just change the caption and call it a different pin. If it looks the same, Pinterest knows. New pins get evaluated almost instantly now. In the past, a brand new pin might take a while to get "understood" by Pinterest. Now it's nearly immediate. Good news if you're posting fresh, varied content. But it also means a low-quality or repetitive pin gets flagged just as fast. Borderline content doesn't just get removed anymore — it gets quietly pushed down. If a pin doesn't fully meet Pinterest's quality standards, instead of just deleting it, they now space it way out in feeds so it rarely shows up. It's still there, but it's basically invisible. The big takeaway: Pinterest is rewarding accounts that post a good variety of content consistently over time. Not flooding the platform with 50 nearly-identical pins. Think of it like setting a dinner table — you want a mix of things, not the same dish in every spot. —------- Here are some helpful links from the podcast: Medium Article 🗒️To get full show notes, visit Simple Pin Media and click on articles. 🗞️Make sure you grab our newsletter – Pinterest Made Simple 📌 Looking to hire the best Pinterest marketing team? May 6, 20265 min

I shared this with a friend recently and thought, why don’t I share it here. Pinterest is now calling itself an AI-powered search platform with an emphasis on shopping. No doubt you’ve seen more and more products in your feed. But not all products get the same exposure or sales. It’s been a long, confusing topic for content creators to figure out how to work with brands leveraging their Pinterest content. 19. Kate's Take: Quick thoughts on Pinterest marketing #8

    Apr 22, 20265 min

My two guiding principles right now in business – where is the money flowing and where do people need transformational wins – big or small. I started out in 2010 with Facebook and the boom of affiliates. Coupon clicks, prints, and it basically feeling like the wild wild west of the internet. The joke in the 2010’s is you could basically print money. A lot of people got rich off courses, affiliates, and the easy money. It’s harder now. Algorithms, discovery is more difficult and neither ads nor organic work 100% of the time. You have to stay curious, open to new pathways, and agile. That’s tough in this market when you’re burned out. I was on threads the other day, and the amount of posts from people feeling like they couldn’t do one more thing was abundant. It made me sad. I’ve been there before and in that season, and only one thing helped me. What’s the one thing I can do right now (big or small) that will put me in the path of the money flow and support people with wins? Sometimes that meant writing an email to those in a particular industry. Sometimes it meant connecting with someone. Sometimes it meant creating a new Pinterest image for a post. Other times it meant sitting back to do a little dreaming. Leaving my consistent workplace for a coffee shop, corner of a hotel lobby, or something different to jog ideas. Q2 is tough on Pinterest. It feels like there is no movement. If you’re in the US, you just paid a crap ton of taxes, and you’re feeling the itch of summer, but it’s not quite there yet. I would leave you with one question today – what’s one thing that you can do to position yourself in the flow of commerce within your industry and connect with someone or a group of people that just need help and support. —------- Here are some helpful links from the podcast: 🗒️To get full show notes, visit Simple Pin Media and click on articles. 🗞️Make sure you grab our newsletter – Pinterest Made Simple 📌 Looking to hire the best Pinterest marketing team?
