Episode 543 / Kiwha Lee Kiwha Lee was born in Seoul and raised across four continents, Lee received her MFA in Painting from Hunter College in 2022. Her New York solo debut, Light Punch , at CHART in 2024 was selected as an Artforum “Must See” and named by Artsy among five standout exhibitions at small galleries worldwide. Later that year, her first European solo exhibition, Reverse Universe , opened at Monti8 in Rome and was selected by Exibart as a must-see exhibition in Rome. In 2025, Lee was selected for a solo presentation in the Main Section of Arte Fiera in Bologna, Italy’s longest-running modern and contemporary art fair. Lee has exhibited at Mindy Solomon Gallery, CHART, Fergus McCaffrey, Thierry Goldberg, Monti8, Ortega y Gasset Projects, COL Gallery, and other venues in the United States, Europe, and Asia. She was nominated for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize in 2018 and was named one of ARTCUBE Discoveries’ Top 100 Early-Career Artists for 2023–2024. Her work has been featured in Artforum, Artsy, Artribune, New American Paintings, Two Coats of Paint, Vulture,Asian Art News, and Harper’s BAZAAR , among other publications. Episode 542 / Hew Locke Hew Locke OBE RA (b. 1959) received an MA in sculpture at the Royal College of Art in 1994. His work is in the permanent collections of the Tate, London, UK; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Pérez Art Museum, Miami, FL; and British Museum, London, UK, among many others. His work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions including Here’s the Thing which opened at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, UK, in 2019 before traveling to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO, and the Colby College Museum of Art, Waterville, ME. In March 2022, Locke presented The Procession, The Duveen Hall Commission for Tate Britain, London, UK, which later travelled to The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Newcastle and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. Locke unveiled Gilt, the Façade Commission at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in September 2022. His groundbreaking show, Hew Locke: what have we here?,opened at the British Museum, London, UK, in Fall 2024. Hew Locke: Passages, the largest solo exhibition of Locke's work to date, debuted at Yale Center for British Art, New Haven, CT, traveled to Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH, and is currently on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX through September 13. On the occasion of Jacob's show at SFMOMA, we are reissuing his interview from 10 years ago. Jacob Hashimoto: Giant ArcInstallation Opened August 22, 2026 on Floor 1. Jacob Hashimoto creates mesmerizing and intricate installations through repetition and composition. Each work comprises thousands of hand-built kites made of bamboo and Japanese paper, suspended together into complex assemblages that seem to float through the air. Blending sculpture, design, and environment, these kites form clusters, some blank or in solid colors, others layered with colorful collaged-paper graphics. At SFMOMA, Hashimoto will create the largest work of his career, mixing nearly 75,000 elements into a cloud canopy that will cover the Roberts Family Gallery floor to ceiling and wall to wall.

Episode 540 / Hidenori Ishii Hidenori Ishii is an artist born in Yonezawa, Japan, who resides and works in LIC, New York. He holds a BFA from George Mason University, Fairfax, VA, and an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD. His work traverses painting, screen-printing, installation and public art. His solo exhibitions include venues like Erin Cluley Gallery in Dallas, TX, C. Grimaldis Gallery in Baltimore, MD and Hub-Robeson Gallery in Penn State University, PA. His work has been featured in group exhibitions worldwide, including at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art in TX, Tian Contemporain, Montreal, Canada and Art in Embassies in Ankara, Turkey. He has received awards such as 2024 and 2019 FST Studio Project Funds in NYC, 2024 Finalist in MTA Arts & Design Program and was previously a Keyholder Resident at the LES Printshop in New York City. His work is part of collections such as the Fidelity Investments Corporate Art Collection, TD Bank Art Collection, Morgan Stanley Art Collection, the Microsoft Art Collection and the University Texas Southwestern Medical Center Art Collection.

Episode 539 / Adam De Boer Adam de Boer is an artist who graduated with a BFA in Painting from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara (2006) and an MA in Fine Art from the Chelsea College of Art, London (2012). His work has been exhibited at Plato, New York (2024); Taymour Grahne Projects, London (2024, 2022); The Pit, Los Angeles (2023); Gajah Gallery, Jakarta and Singapore (2023, 2022); Ben Brown Fine Arts, London and Hong Kong (2022); The Hole, New York and Los Angeles (2023, 2022); Hunter Shaw Fine Art, Los Angeles (2020, 2018); World Trade Centre, Jakarta (2018); and Art Jog, Yogyakarta (2018, 2015). Adam is a Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellow and in 2017 was awarded a Fulbright Research Fellowship to Java, Indonesia. Other grants include The International Art Prize presented by Winsor & Newton and Paul Smith's Foundation, Arts for India from the University of the Arts, London, and those from The Cultural Development Corporation, The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and The Santa Barbara Arts Fund.

Episode 536 / Flora Temnouche Flora Temnouche is an artist who lives and works between Paris and Berlin. She was born and raised in France, studying Modern Literature and Art History in Paris at the Sorbonne, then attending the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf until 2023 in the class of Katharina Wulff. Her works have been exhibited in group and solo shows both in Europe and the United States in galleries such as Galerie Elsa Meunier in Paris, Chilly Art Project in London, and Galerie Philia in New York. She has also exhibited in public spaces such as Ghetto Novo in Venice, the Kultur Bahnhof Eller and Kunstpalast Museum in Düsseldorf, Villa Maeterlinck Jean Nouvel in Nice, and has been selected for a residency at Palazzo Galli Talli in Florence. She just recently had a solo show in LA at Megan Mulrooney Gallery called A Room of One’s Own.

Episode 535 / Tyreek Morrison Tyreek Morrison is an Atlanta-based collage artist born in New Jersey and raised in Atlanta. Tyreek works with collage, found materials, paper, paint, and drawing to explore Black American life through memory, identity, and everyday moments. Tyreek also is an accomplished skateboarder and frequent collaborator with Lil’ Wayne. Shows and venues include Future Fair, Alday Hunken Gallery, Charley Palmer Fine Art, the Emma Darnell Aviation Museum, Scope Fair, and Atlanta Art Fair, with a forthcoming collaboration with his father next spring, among other projects.

Episode 534 / Nicole Economides Nicole Economides (b.1992) is an Athens based artist born in New York. She received her BA/BFA from the Department of Fine Arts and Arts Sciences at the University of Ioannina Greece (2015). She is an MFA Fine Arts graduate at Parsons, The New School (2019). Economides has been an artist in residence at the Agora Collective: WHILE WE WORK in Berlin, Germany (2016) and at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, Greece (2014). She was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Scholarship for Painters (2017) and the Artists’ Grant from the Gerondelis Foundation Inc (2018). She has shown her work in many group exhibitions and workshops in Crete, Ioannina, Athens, Thessaloniki, Paris, Berlin, and New York City. She currently lives and works in New York City.

Episode 533 / Rebecca Bonaci Rebecca Bonaci is an artist born and based in Malta who graduated with a B.A. (Hons) in Fine Art in 2014, after which she pursued a career in tattooing alongside her visual arts practice. Her work is often shaped by immediate experiences, focusing on intimate emotions and personal moments. Bonaci explores how these individual experiences resonate on a broader human level, inviting connection and empathy. Her solo exhibition Ġuf (2023) explored contemporary motherhood through a deeply personal lens. In 2024, she was selected to participate in the Malta Biennale, followed by her solo exhibition Wens: Comfortable Silence at Valletta Contemporary in 2025. She was also a finalist for the Hopper Prize (USA) in Fall 2025. Her work has been featured in various group exhibitions in Malta and abroad.

Episode 532 / Koak Koak is an artist born in Lansing, MI who earned her BFA and MFA from California College of the Arts. In 2025, Koak was the subject of a solo exhibition at Charleston, Lewes, UK. She has participated in many institutional group shows, including at the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, WA; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO; de Young Museum, San Francisco, CA; Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, CA; Musées d’Angers, France; Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art, Rizhao; and Rudolph Tegners Museum and Statue Park, Dronningmølle, Denmark, among others. In 2020, Koak received a Eureka Fellowship from the Fleishhacker Foundation and completed residencies at the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, NM, and at Minnesota Street Project in San Francisco, through the Liquitex Residency program. Koak’s work is part of the permanent collections of the de Young Museum, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, and Musées d’Angers. She lives and works in San Francisco and is represented by Perrotin, Union Pacific, and Jessica Silverman.

Episode 531 / Jo Dennis Jo Dennis (b. 1973, UK) is a British artist based in London. Her practice spans two decades, working across painting, sculpture, photography, and installation. Dennis explores our psychological and emotional connection to place and memory, specifically in relation to ruination, surface, and decay, and how these themes link with notions of mortality. Dennis received her MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London (2022) and her BA in Fine Art and Contemporary Critical Theory from Goldsmiths College, London (2002). Her work was recently included in The Book Of Ladders, 100 Contemporary Art Works, edited by Paul Carey Kent and Adeline de Monseignat (2023), and Site Specific by Tall Poppy Press (2023).

Episode 530 / Raul De Lara (Born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, México – 1991) Raul De Lara is a sculptor who explores the emotive and storytelling qualities of materials. He is interested in how social, cultural and spiritual qualities can be imbued into wood through the act of carving. He practices traditional hand carving and power carving techniques through the visual language of nature, humor, and magical realism. His research preserves, honors and propels forward traditional uses of wood while combining them with new developments in the global industry of woodworking. Raul immigrated from Mexico to the United States at the age of 12, and has been a DACA recipient since 2012. His work reflects on themes of belonging, queer identity, and his im migrant experience. He is currently living and working in Queens, NY. Raul received his MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2019, and a BFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 2015. Recent solo exhibition sites include The Contemporary Austin, SCAD Museum of Art and Gaa Gallery. His work has been included in exhibitions nationally and internationally at the Tucson Museum of Art, Wharton Esherick Museum, The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture, The Armory Show, Hermès Paris, Alexander Berggruen Gallery, The Hole, Honor Fraser Gallery, and Reynolds Gallery, among others. Raul ’s selected awards include the Maxwell/Hanrahan Award in Craft, the NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in Craft/Sculpture, and Art in America Magazine’s Top 20 Global New Talent, as well as residencies at Wendell Castle Workshop, Silver Art Projects, LMCC Governor’s Island, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Ox-Bow School of Art, Penland School of Craft, and Chicago Artists Coalition, among others.

Episode 529 / Gonçalo Preto Gonçalo Preto (b. 1991, Lisbon, Portugal) is a Portuguese artist living and working in New York. In 2024, he completed his Master of Fine Arts at the Rhode Island School of Design, having previously studied at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, USA, and at Kassel Kunsthochschule, Germany. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. Episode 528 / Marina Adams Marina Adams is a painter based in New York, NY, Bridgehampton, New York, and Parma, Italy. She earned degrees from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA and Columbia University, New York, NY. Episode 527 / Erica Westenberger Erica Westenberger is a New Orleans–based interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans drawing, sculpture, painting, and installation. Her work builds immersive scenes shaped by apprehension, longing, and care, exploring emotional landscapes through intertwined bodies, objects, and imagined environments. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2014 and her MFA from Tulane University in 2023. Her work has been exhibited nationally, including at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts as part of the Delta Triennial, Field Projects in New York City, and Tinney Contemporary in Nashville, Tennessee. She has presented solo exhibitions at Carroll Gallery and Sibyl Gallery in New Orleans, and at Neue Welt in Nashville. Her work has been featured in ArtMaze Magazine and the Nashville Scene, and she has participated in residencies at the Joan Mitchell Center, Oxbow School of Art, and Stove Works. Her work is currently on display in Tinney Contemporary’s booth at Future Fair in New York City from May 13–16.

Episode 526 / Xavier Tavera Xavier Tavera has had a passion for portraiture for most of his life as a way to engage with people and their stories. His work oscillates between documentary and the imagined with the sole purpose of telling a story. After moving from Mexico City to the United States, Xavier has devoted himself to tell the stories of the Latin American diaspora, often recontextualizing with the purpose of providing visibility and fair representation. He has shown his work extensively in the Twin Cities, nationally and internationally including Germany, Scotland, Mexico, Chile, Uruguay, Switzerland, Portugal, Greece and China. His work is part of the collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Plains Art Museum, Minnesota Museum of American Art, Minnesota History Center, Ramsey County Historical Society, the Weisman Art Museum and the National Museum of Mexican Art. He is a recipient of the McKnight fellowship, Jerome Travel award, State Arts Board, and Bronica scholarship.

Episode 525 / Madeline Ludwig-Leone Madeline Ludwig-Leone is a Los Angeles-based visual artist working primarily in painting. She received an MFA in Fine Art from ArtCenter College of Design and a BA in Fine Art and American Studies from Yale University. She had a recent solo exhibition at Gattopardo, Glendale, CA and has previously shown at Felix Art Fair with Gattopardo and Tyler Park Presents; Good Mother Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Light Manufacturing, Portland, ME; The Aster Art Initiative, Los Angeles, CA; Carnation Contemporary, Portland, OR; City Gallery at the Downtown Arts Center, Lexington, KY; and Dedee Shattuck Gallery, Westport, MA, among others. Her work has been featured in New American Paintings, Hyperallergic, and SouthCoast Today. She was a recent resident at ChaNorth Artists’ Residency in Pine Plains, NY and at Cuttyhunk Island Artists’ Residency in Gosnold, MA.
